          Any educated guesses at what it might be?

          Not a previous freebie, not a new release, not a good but cheap indie game, probably not an Epic exclusive…

          Maybe something recently heavily discounted to squeeze out some sales, that can generate some future revenue through DLC purchases…

    For those who prefer Steam or don't like running Epic Launcher, follow this guide:

    HOW TO START GAME WITHOUT THE EPIC LAUNCHER

    • Install and launch the game through Epic Launcher then close it.
    • Open "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\Logs\EpicGamesLauncher.log" in a text editor.
    • Do a search for "-AUTH_LOGIN" and find the line similar to the example below for your specific game:

    [2019.12.20-22.56.49:143][311]FCommunityPortalLaunchAppTask: Launching app 'X:/GAMES/Epic Games/TowerfallAscension/TowerFallLauncher.exe' with commandline ' -AUTH_LOGIN=unused -AUTH_PASSWORD=XXX -AUTH_TYPE=exchangecode -epicapp=Bichir -epicenv=Prod -EpicPortal -epicusername="XXX" -epicuserid=XXX -epiclocale=en-GB'

    • Note: if you cannot find this line in your log file, close EGL, delete the log and reopen the EGL and the game. Then close both of them and it should now appear in the log.
    • Copy the text from -AUTH_LOGIN to the end (without the quotes).

    If you want to create a desktop shortcut:

    • Go to the install location, right-click on "TowerFallLauncher.exe" and go 'Send To'>'Desktop (create shortcut)'.
    • Right-click the desktop shortcut you created
    • In the Target, after the quotes, paste the line you copied. eg. "…\Epic Games\TowerfallAscension\TowerFallLauncher.exe" -AUTH_LOGIN…

    If you want to launch from steam:

    • In Steam, go to Games > "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library" and find the .exe
    • Right-click on the game in your Library > Properties > 'Set Launch Options' and paste the same line you copied earlier.

    You can now use that shortcut or Steam to launch any game without having the Epic Games Launcher running in the background - not even as an icon in the system tray.
    Technically, what this does is start the game WITHOUT the EPIC launcher, but of course it doesn't remove the DRM. You basically pass your EPIC account/password to the *.exe and then start the game. (The DRM/Epic account check is obviously done within the game itself, doesn't need the launcher)

          Nah bro. There's no link or suggestion of spying in the ToS

          Any content that you create, generate, or make available through the Epic Games store application shall be “UGC”. You hereby grant to Epic a non-exclusive, fully-paid, royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, distribute, prepare derivative works based on, publicly perform, publicly display, make, have made, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise exploit your UGC for any purposes

          The short version is, any content you make using their games is owned by Epic (screenshots, game play footage etc.)

          At no point in time does it say it has the right to take data from your My Documents(my analogy of personal documents) or snoop on your Chrome Facebok browsing history and whatnot, which is what spying is.

          Also, this person is, at multiple instances, inaccurately describing Tencent's position in Epic.
          Todd also replied in that thread:

          Tencent is not a parent company of Epic. Tencent is an independent company that’s a minority investor in Epic, alongside many others. However they do not have any sort of access to our customer data.

          I don't know where this reddit fool came up with this idea of spying, but when it comes to ToS, contracts and law, the verbage used and semantics are absolutely everything if you were to try and argue this in court.

          If you choose to boycott on the premise of Epic accepting dirty Chinese money from Tencent, then that is a more reasonable opinion to make, but not on this supposed spying.

            @Blitzfx: Yeah I honestly didn't look into it too deeply, I just remembered that post from a while back which had like 30k upvotes so thought it must've had some merit. Anyway, the main reason I do it is so that I can have the steam overlay and chat features.

              I suspect they had a lot of upvotes due to that massive backlash from China investing in reddit, and people getting all emotional about it.
              Very easy upvote anything that was anti-China without a second though.

      or you know, use the GOG launcher - it ties every account / launcher you throw at it together, including inter user chat.. make it a truly all in one app for windows.

      There's also another version of the game (a sequel?) called SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE which features an endless mode where you go through a neverending series of randomly generated levels. This is great because the original game is pretty short and has very little replay value.
