Isnt it always free with everyday rewards card?

    • +1

      yes

I was just about to say the same

    • +2

true, but this way you don't have to go through a saga. You are a member within 5 minutes and you get given a login straight away

      • +1

Correct free with everyday rewards card but not everyone wants/has everyday rewards card. And this is a more direct option which is available for a limited time so +1 from me. Note it says limited to jetstar jetmail subscribers but anyone can sign up.

        • -7

yeah & it's been published several times before…..<yawn>

  • +1

Looks good, although what is the association with ANZ?

"I consent to Qantas Airways Limited ABN 16 009 661 901 (and its service providers) and ANZ National Bank Limited exchanging my membership account information (including membership number and full name) and personal information (including full name, date of birth and address) to confirm my program membership and facilitate the crediting of points^ to my Qantas Frequent Flyer account."

    • +2

No direct association, which is why they are asking for your consent. ANZ issues QFF credit cards so all that clause is saying is that if you have the ANZ Qantas CC's, then you consent the 2 companies to share information about you (in order to correctly track your QFF points) without having to gain your consent each time as they are otherwise non related corporate entities.

      • I don't think this is the case, QFF also has credit card partnerships with every other major bank, which should also be listed here if it's for tracking QFF points

  • +2

Good find Psionix, very easy had my membership in a couple of minutes!!!!

  • -5

OnePath has free signup to QFF
ANZ also has free signup to QFF

whoever pays $82.50 for QFF is not doing research

    • Edit: redacted.

    • -2

ROFL you got 6 negs i since jealousy for psionix 10+++

    • +1

your link relates to only if you had an ANZ card therefore not dupe…

      • -2

it's all the same product for free
just like the last 3 times someone's posted a "free QFF membership"
        - Woolies Everyday Rewards card (free) gets you free membership.
        - ANY of the above links & numerous others get you free QFF membership

So it's already available for free, so this is a dupe!

        • +8

Not really, that's like saying someone posts the i7 2600K cpu from MSY for $315 and then someone else post up the same cpu from pcdiy for $315 and then calling the second deal a dupe. While this may not be a good deal since there are alternatives, it certainly isn't a dupe.

  • -2

    How is this a bargain?

    • +4

how is it not a bargain???

      • -7

        its a dupe

    • -2

true.. bargain definition -> something bought or offered on sale for more cheaply than expected or the usual price

      therefore NOT Bargain…
should be in forums because this post only tells you that you don't need to get membership free by everyday rewards.

  • -5

Not a bargain. It's free always.

    • +3

No its not always free, I paid to be a member 8 years ago. Now I want by money back

    • It's only free if you sign up with overseas address. It's dumb but AU resident always have to pay for it. And the diff is.. according to Qantas FF, you don't get a membership card if you sign up overseas. The paying version gets you a membership card which can be used to accumulate points in restaurants n other outlets.

  • -7

This is definitely not a bargain

  • +13

The Woolworths Card is not available in Tasmania and this post is the first on Ozbargain that specifically states its available to everyone. Bargain ++

  • +3

Yeah man. was about to buy this, and this came out! Score!!

    • -1

Why would anyone (who knows anything) pay for it??

As the earlier links show, it's free to anyone who can google. And has been for YEARS.

  • +2

I like how it's easy to sign up otherwise I won't be bother. So +1 for me.

  • +3

thanks just what i was looking for received my westpac gold earth cards today and was just about to go looking for a free signup link.

Westpac sent me a form to fill in and send back. lol

    Great timing!

  • +4

    thanks, just signed up

Have a look on avherald.com for incidents and reports from around the world. Qantas is not unique or even unusual in the number of engine and hydraulic failures. What is unique about Qantas is that they haven't had a hull loss* or fatality since starting jet flights in the 1960s. Other top notch companies like Lufthansa and Singapore Air have all had serious fatal accidents.

*Qantas 747 was damaged in Thailand around 10 years ago. Rather than scrap the plane, the company paid more to fix it just to avoid having a jet aircraft hull loss.

      • +1

Wow Qantas sure does want to keep that no fatal accident/hull loss thing on a clean sheet. (I wonder if it was product placement when it was mentioned in Rain Man)

        • +3

          Thai flight details:
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qantas_Flight_1

An old movie about a savant has done more for Qantas's image than any public relations campaign ever could :-)

Charlie: Ray, all airlines have crashed at one time or another, that doesn't mean that they are not safe.
          Raymond: QANTAS. QANTAS never crashed.
          Charlie: QANTAS?
          Raymond: Never crashed.
Charlie: Oh that's gonna do me a lot of good because QANTAS doesn't fly to Los Angeles out of Cincinnati, you have to get to Melbourne! Melbourne, Australia in order to get the plane that flies to Los Angeles!

  • +3

who the hell pays to sign up to an FF program???? This is not lounge access, why would I pay for something that benefits them?? All other airlines are free. NOT A BARGAIN!!

    • +9

Believe it or not, there was a time when the only way to get onto the Qantas FF program was to either pay a $60 to $80 membership fee, or to sign up with a credit card charging well over $100 per annum in fees. Woolworths brought in true free Qantas FF membership through their Everyday Rewards card.

    • +1

I paid for mine about 7 years ago.

      • +2

Although the SW Qantas CC is one of the best for QFF points, if you want to collect points via another credit card, then I doubt you get QFF membership for free. Hence this is a good bargain.

  • +2

Wow, I'm so happy there's no age limit to join :D

  • +6

This I a huge benefit to sign the kids up. Have always resisted the Everyday Rewards and credit card offers, for my 3 under 10 yo kids.

    • This I a huge benefit to sign the kids up

If they are not flying with qantas or earning points on a credit card then there is not much point.

If your kids do not fly with qantas regularly then the kids points will expire after 18 months.

      • +7

Indeed there is a point, many points in fact (pardon the pun), it's called family points transfer! :) My partner's account is the main "point" account, the rest of the family transfer points into that account once every 12 months. All award flights are booked through my partner's account.

      • +4

Well obviously there is no point if the kids do not fly QANTAS, but since we take regular overseas trips usually with QANTAS, but I have always been too cheap to pay FF membership it is a bargain for me.

  • +1

While every other airline offered a FREE membership, Qantas always charged people who register from Australia (it has alwasy been free for people with overseas address). No, its not a bargain, poor Aussies who support their airline finally can join the FF program for free.

  • So these points can be used towards flights? I can't see any flights in the "store" and my 3000 points doesn't even get me a $25 voucher yet.

    • +1

They aren't in the store. You book them via their website under the tab "Awards".

  • -7

    Not a bargain.

    • +2

How so? I just signed up instantly. For free. How is that not a bargain, is there a way someone will PAY ME to sign up?…

  • +3

I hear Coles are giving away free fly buys cards too!

    Not a bargain.

  • +1

Hmmm water is free so coke being just reconstituted water with a little sugar flavour and bubbles, wouldn't be a bargain unless it was free….. Logical?

  • +11

COOL - I signed my GF and kid up. I've been a member since Oct 1996, but couldn't justify paying for my family.

Whether (technically) a "bargain" or not, it's a freebie that I would never have known about if it wasn't posted here.

    Thanks, psionix !!

  • +3

I am flying to Tokyo next month on Qantas. Was really thinking of paying as I don't have QFF. Thanks.

  • +2

I'm about to book a ticket to SFO and wasn't looking forward to the hassle having to join everyday rewards to get QFF membership. So Thanks, this was very easy!

  • +3

It's an alternative way to get something for free which you would otherwise need to pay for. Therefore, it's a bargain.

  • +3

Wasn't aware of a way to get my kids membership and now I have it for nothing so a good bargain.

  • -1

this i think is a good way to book family members a free ticket if you have the points as i think you can do family transfers otherwise you cant book a ticket with someone elses name on it i think. I think this is a good deal.

    • +2

You can book a ticket in anyone's name, as long as that person is the one flying and producing ID at check-in.

      • The last time I booked, they had a list of relation (quite broad) in the pull down menu and not a open slather ..unless it has changed now

But then, I don't if they would go and check if you say it was your Cousin!

  • +1

Who wants to fly qantas these days?

    • +4

      me ;)

    • +2

For 750 points, Woolies can give you a $5 gift card :)

    • +1

Not me. Especially now they have axed 1,000 Australian workers.

      I still call Asia home?

      • +1

Australian labour costs too much, so you employ less of it. Simple economics. We're ozbargainers, if something costs a lot, we buy less of it, or we don't buy it. How is Qantas different?

        • "Qantas has forecast a pre-tax profit of as much as $550 million this financial year, boosted by a one-off $95 million payment from engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce".

          http://www.smh.com.au/business/rollsroyce-deal-drives-qantas…

This is clearly not a company which is struggling.

I hope they will at least have the dignity to remove the kangaroo from their plane and change their slogan, given all the Australians they have put out of work.

    • The whole point of the bargain is to circumvent the problem you've outlined above :)

  • +3

Thanks for this "bargain" and the + & - comments.

Personally, and I choose my words carefully, I believe Qantas for decades have been almost the epitome of an organisation that will take the customer for as much as possible at any opportunity (& they have used an abused their ogopolistic powers to do so) .

    Just my humble opinion.

  • Qantas is awful… Paid for the $80 joining fee, despite all other airlines offer free frequent flyer.. Then they started offering free membership everywhere.

    • +2

They're awful, because you paid for it??

Membership is 100% optional, and you decided it was worth the $80 and "despite all other airlines offer free frequent flyer". So who's the fool?

And anyway… How/Why blame someone else for your purchasing decisions.

  • Thanks have signed up the kidlets.

  • Qantas site appears to be down right now

    • ozbargained! lol

      • +1

        back up now!

  • any idea how i can find out my membership number before they mail the card to me?

    • +1

Comes up with a printable temporary card with your number on it after signing up.

  • cant wait for this week to be over so this deal goes off my top deals list

  • +1

Thanks for this, signed up my 1 and 2 year old boys, we're about to fly to the States and the 2 year old can claim points for the flight! 1 year old will be able to at a later date of course.

  • or you can always fill in a oversea's address = free.

  • Well this came in handy. Just booked a flight so I figured I'd sign up. :)

  • are there any ongoing fees with Qantas FF program?

    • No.
The only thing you need to do is earn points at least once every 18 months or your points will expire.

This means you need to fly with qantas, have a credit card which earns Qantas points, have a Woolworths everyday rewards card to earn qantas points when you shop at woolworths and other stores or some other way of having points go into your qantas account.

  • Thanks. Signed up grandma, who hardly flys but I can transfer her points to my account.

I thought you had to pay for the Air NZ FF program unless you fly business class overseas?

  • +1

spent 9 years saving up Qantas Frequent flier points. Flew Qantas where we could. Got Qantas credit cards, everyday reward cards and signed up for offers to get extra points. Finally got enough points to book a flight to Europe for the family. When we went to book however, Qantas tried to charge us $6,000 in 'fees and charges'. This is roughly the same cost as flying with Air Asia to London. What a complete scam !

    • +1

I ended up using my points saved since 2004 to get gift cards for Woolworths. Each point used that way is not quite as valuable in dollar terms as when used on flights, but it also means not having to spend hundreds of dollars in fees, taxes and surcharges just to use my points.

      • Have also been a QFF since 2004 (although I haven't used it since 2006). After repeated trips to the US and Europe and getting not much back, I gave up on Qantas.

And don't get me started on their customer service. I'm much happier flying other airlines.

  • I find it difficult to understand people who seem determined to denigrate the QFF proposition. I've been a QFF member for more than ten years (and yes, I paid to join!!) and it that time…
    1. by directing my purchasing preferences to opportunities to earn points WHEN THE OFFERING WAS COMPETITIVELY priced,
    2. holding a Rewards credit card and using it when the Reward had a higher value that any associated cost (like a surcharge)
    3. flying with One World airlines to earn points (but only where the price was competitive)
    4. consolidating family points into a single account

..I've accumulated and used a conservative million points with an aggregate value of something like $20,000. That's a lot of money for my family in after tax dollars…

In that time I've not always used points to fly, when the fares were cheap because of the GFC (2 - 3 years ago) for example, or when a new competitor offered bargain basement pricing (like V Australia when they started) I bought tickets and conserved my points.

I hear frequent and loud bleats about seat availability in QFF. If you plan ahead it's really not an issue. If you can't or don't want to plan ahead, then pay for a seat or use the fairly recently introduced Any Seat option at a huge points permium!! Actually you'd be better off paying…

For the thinking traveller the QFF program is a real asset and I for one hope it endures. Qantas is not the best airline flying out of Oz, but its FAR from the worst. Try flying to the US with United….

  • Btw the link still works, managed to get a Qantas FF number last night!
