    Hi trump. Bye trump.

You would indeed have to be brave to go to the new world

I need a new phone. Current one is full of all sorts of memes

      • Buy Nokia 3180

  • Targeted, not on my amex

    • Good you aren’t targeted.

    Welcome to Trumpland 🤡

  • Targeted. Not available for me

  • +1

Great offer. You aren't limited to the mainland with this deal. The Pacific hopper covering Micronesia would be a great trip.

    • Do they sell codeshares? Any examples?
Wonder if it’ll work on buying points?

      • You can fly to Palau direct from Brisbane on Qantas and then be connected via United to multiple destinations including Guam, Saipan, Tokyo, Seoul and many more.

      • The T&C's say you have to leave from Australia, and no codeshare flights are coming up

        • I can't find. Have to use the AU united site.

    • Are the hopper flights available for sale on the en/au United site in Australian Dollars?

  • I'm guessing you can't use this to buy travelbank cash…

  • Any good trip suggestions from Australia?

    • +2

Return trip to Hawaii is ~$1500pp for the dates I'm looking at (April marathon). Thought I could book and pay for all 5 travelers individually with different cards (and get 5 x $400 credits) but alas, the system thinks my kids are traveling alone so the 'unaccompanied minor service fee' kills the deal.

      • Is it direct from Aus? Or goes thru mainland? Which city in Australia?

  • I've got it on mine, @sicarz
I like the suggestions for non Stateside options with this so will be looking. Never been to Europe or America before so wanting to get over to either in the next 12 months.

Now all you need is a Qantas to do a special to US and United generally brings equivalent tickets to align.

    PSA:

Last year, similar promo (but only $200 credit) - I bought the economy tickets to SFO when it was $1200 (Qantas had special on). Economy is more grim but you can upgrade to business pretty easily (shame the upgrade cost doesn't get rebated by Amex as the prcoessing site isn't via United.com.au)

You can actually cancel those tickets for credit so you could use it again (within 12 months of purchase).

  • Just checked Sydney to LA Departing October 20 returning November 11. Basic economy $1,271, normal economy $1,651. With the $400 back it is a very good deal. Only question is whether to go Basic Economy or Economy. The $380 difference allows seat selection, sit with a family member or group, and flight change, an absolute rip off.

    • I'm pretty sure you can "upgrade" to a regular economy ticket later if you initially buy a Basic Economy ticket. So if you're solo and willing to cop a middle seat for 15 hours, you can save the $380. I've flown Basic Economy with United, but only on a domestic US flight.

    • Just checked, basic economy allows for cancellation but at a charge (dunno what that amount / % is).

Any other destination apart from going to USA?

  • +1

To get around the flight departing Australia, do we buy a refundable fare, cancel and get voucher/credit and use it on any United flight?

    Correct ?

    • Yes I think you can. Make sure to buy a refundable ticket (I think economy and above, not basic economy as they charge a cancellation fee).

Amex won't care as long as its bought from United.com.au. You should get your credit. This is why its almost a no brainer if you intend to use United as its pretty much you pay $600 for $1000 value.

      • +1

Multiple refunds would just go back into the same credit pool? I.e book 4x $1000 tickets, refund all 4 of them, get $4000 credit in total to book towards business class? Meanwhile, get $1600 cashback.

40% off business class would be nice.

        • I can't see why not if you book it all under the same passenger name. The pool credit will just be for the passenger to use. I haven't tried it but thats my hypothesis.

The savings % isn't how you tabled it though as I can't find a flight at $1000. Cheapest could be a one way to Honolulu for ~$1400 (get $400 back) so if you did that 4x, it'll be $1600 savings / $5600 = ~30%

Issue then will be if you can use all of the $5600 within 12 months

          • @Bargainitis: Yeah true, would need to find a refundable flight for $1000-1200, to make it 40%-30% discount. 30% in business would be attractive.

            • @lilkid28: this is genius. but would the trip (when you eventually book on UA using those credits) be covered by the travel insurance amex has offered? since the outbound trip would have to be paid for using Amex in order for the insurance to be activated..

      • but i am searching the G class from BNE to SFO

and the term condition seems to be fully refund and not mention any cancellation fee

  • Anyone know if we can split payment for a single flight across multiple cards?

    • negative. the online platform doesnt allow that functionality.

Although saying that, you could technically buy a ticket, cancel it, get credit. Buy another ticket using a supplmenetary card, cancel it and get credit.

You might be above what you need $ wise but it could work.

  • Can you buy United Airline miles with this offer?

    • no its a different site that does the miles.

  • I wonder if I could purchase gift card or top up into my UA travel bank (currently in usd)? Thanks.

  • can flight/travel credits be used towards hotel bookings?

    • +2

Ooh that would be a cheeky way to use the credits! No idea on my end but maybe someone with fight credits with UA can check to see if it does!

    • +1

"United TravelBank funds can't be used for hotels or car rental purchases"

  • -2

Devastated I didn’t save this to my card when I first saw it. It must have now exceeded the 20k, and for the first time in my life I need a United flight.

  • -2

I got this offer on two of my cards, im wondering how best to use :)

  • +4

I can confirm that the credit gets triggered from a flight booking departing USA travelling to Australia. I already had a flight booked to USA on points and looking for a way back, and decided to try a one way booking from USA on united.

    • Did you use the /au website and was the currency AUD?

      • +1

yes, using the AU website and paid in AUD. The transaction description on my account was "UA direct AUD"

        • Thanks for this. I just booked and saw "UA direct AUD" and was getting suspicious. Never saw that when booking UA flights on a non-AMEX credit card.

  • Bought economy (not BE) and cancelled in a few days got future flight credit (FFC). This can be used any time later, I think 1 year from date of cancellation. (there are ways to extend this - book for future and keep cancelling). Best to convert into ETC so it stays like cash on account and can be used by anyone. Just need to get a helpful customer service rep who is willing to convert.

    • What's etc

      • +1

The ETC (Electronic Travel Certificate) are like gift cards can be used for yourself or for anyone.
FFC (future flight credits) most of the time can only be used by the person they were issued to.

        • Normally, a future flight credit is non-transferrable and therefore must be used by the same traveler it was issued to. However, all future flight credits that were issued for tickets purchased on or before August 31, 2021, can now be used to book travel for anyone, including yourself, friends, or family. If you have trouble using a future flight credit, please contact Reservations at 1-800-864-8331.

    • Can you share which flight you bought please

      • +1

I bought SYD-LAX which happened to be $1040 AUD and got the amex statement credit within a day or two. make sure you don't book basic economy and book Economy.

    Amazing offer!

Good time to go and see the best of the US.

  • Flights to the US just dropped a lot overnight (well, to/from NYC-EWR in Nov/Dec on a lot of dates in there). Just bought a roundtrip economy ticket (NOT basic though) for $1646, which will drop it to $1246 with the $400 credit. Could have gotten basic economy for about $300 less, but that's not a good ticket unless you (1) enjoy middle seats on long-haul flights!, (2) require zero flexibility of the ticket and no chance to cancel for flight credit. Even booking a family in basic economy doesn't mean you'll all sit together. You could all end up with separate middle seats. That is the evil that is of basic economy (basic should be in all caps, BASIC).

  • Under the fare rules when booking, it says change fees may apply to the Standard Economy fare for the flight from Australia, but not the return flight from the US.
