  • whats wrong with the kmart DAB player?

It doesn't come with the SONY branding this one features. Duh!

  • +11

the copper lends the player its unique natural, acoustic sound.

I prefer snake oil for acoustic sound improvements.

That is indeed a crazy expensive portable player

    • I find it's best to combined the two, really gives the copper a nice glow as well.

    • +2

Made me chuckle and also remember the good old days of when I truly believed in the acoustic benefits of pure silver speaker cables and static reducing CD wipes. I don't regret any of it but am also glad I'm a lot wiser now (questionably wiser if I don't regret it).

I'll swap ya me durries and a packet of Smith's salt n vinegar chips.

    • Have you seen the price of smokes these days? No way.

  • +2

This is a really good DAP, sound quality is superb. Nice defined bass and roomey vocals. It would've been better if it had Android interface like the newer models.

  • Thanks OP Christmas presents sorted

  • 😱

  • Great price but I have never understood why these machines are so expensive. Are they really that good?

    • Biy it and tell us if good or not

    • +4

Im buying one so i can plug in those el cheapo earphones that you can buy from the reject shop.

      • -3

Am not interested in buying this crap in anystore including reject shop

    • Small batch, low volume item. I think they're made in Malaysia.
https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/walkman/dmp-z1 is supposed to be that good.

      • That's the DMP-Z1. They're $10K

Tell me one good reason why we need portable digital audio player for 2k while you can feed your family for how many months?

You should put scott morrison in hawai with a glass ofbeer

  • I would have thought with digital players like this the money would be better spent on the headphones then the player? Is there that much of a quality gain?

    • Of course!
But if you are asking, you are halfway toward being gullible enough to be their target market :-)

    • +1

that's correct. your best gain in sound quality will be from a headphone / earphone. IMO, your gain is better if you have a $1K DAP and $2K headphone, vs $2K DAP and $1k headphone. Be mindful if you choose a headphone that is hard to drive, you may end up needing an AMP as well.

I think by the time headphones / DAPs goes past $500, you have entered into a noticeable diminishing returns region. You have 70-80% of the quality. If you are the person that demands more, the cost increases very quickly trying to obtain the last 20-30%.

  • At the end of the day it's just converting zeros and ones to an analog signal. I think you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this and a good DAC connected to your phone.

  • “ copper lends the player its unique natural, acoustic sound.”

How can the materials used influence a digital signal?

    • This company hired the same marketing firm used by the Monster brand.

      • +1

The Monster people are now better known for "Beats by Dre" - headphones of choice for the stupid.

But hey, no judgement. I was young and dumb once, and bought some Bose products :-)

        • Ha ha Bose!
No highs, no lows must be Bose… at least you learned from that mistake.

  • Hahaha who uses these anymore u can buy 2 iPhone 10 64gb for that price

  • +1

Did they put the . in the wrong place?

This product are not for the average consumer. The WM1Z is a great price considering everywhere else in the world this is so much more expensive.

I remember last time when ATA did a sale on the Sony IER-Z1R Ozbargain had very similar comments on the earphone while it sold like hot cakes.

Guys from England, US, Canada and Ozzies were buying them (forum i frequently visit).

"The WM1Z is a great price considering everywhere else in the world this is so much more expensive."

Wow, are we having a motto competition for Ozbargain?

I'd really like to see the study showing how the case of the unit affect the acoustics of whatever transducer is attached to cable plugged into the unit.

    • Just spit it out… head-fi.org.
They're raving about the DMP-Z1 now.

    • underrated comment.

Guys I know some of you are a little drunk right now but it is Christmas day not April 1st. I would neg this because I know no player on the planet is worth the asking price, but I know I would be slammed and possibly gagged for it. To post this on a bargain site is about as funny a joke as you get in a $2 Christmas cracker.

  • Geez, I'd rather get the Sony a55 or a100; that player there is way too expensive. If I bought a DAP, it'd primarily be to move my mostly FLAC music off my phone; currently running out of space for videos and photos.

  • +1

    i can get 6x LG V30
