  • When are they going to legalize this in NSW?

      Banning scooters is so dumb.

I've seen (profanity) riding these on the foot path at full speed. If they hit my Mrs or my mum it would do serious damage. They need to regulate them so they use the road.

Maybe I haven't thought this through properly but I've never understood the thinking behind this. If you ban scooters from the footpath does that mean bicycles should also be banned? The top speed of these scooters can easily be matched by a cyclist. Secondly, yes, if a scooter hits someone it could do serious damage to the person that gets hit. That said, the person riding the scooter is also likely to suffer from a collision, so it's in their best interest to take preventative measures to avoid such incidents from taking place. If you move scooters to the road, you're exposing a flimsy device with little to no safety features to cars. A scooter rider that gets hit by a car is more likely to be facing death than serious damage.

@cheeseburger: In most States it is illegal to cycle on the footpath. So it would be consistent to not allow powered scooters.

I agree with your sentiment in China bicycles cars electric motorbikes all share roads and sidewalks without issue and everyone just gets along.

          • @cheeseburger: As a motorist, a cyclist and father who rides push scooters with his kids, I have been thinking long and hard about where scooters should be allowed. I tend to err on the side of caution, share the path with pedestrians and generally dont be a dick on the road, but there are always those who are the opposite, no matter what vehicle your riding.
A collision with a car; be it a bicycle or scooter or on foot makes no difference, you're going come second. As a cyclist I dont see scooters being any different to an ebike. So why not treat them with the same rules. Helmet, bell , not on footpaths unless with children. etc. But as a driver damn, imagine what the roads will be like with scooters darting all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I''l be getting a scooter as soon at they are legal, our slow ass laws need to catch up with viable transport solutions. Stay cool :)

        • Not sure why you are neg'd.

I'm all for their introduction, but thy do need to be carefully regulated, particularly in areas such as Syd CBD.

The worst thing that can happen is for there to be a trial, everyone drops $500 on a scooter, then only to find out, due to lots of injuries to innocent pedestrians, they become illegal again.

One suggestion in NSW was to only allow riders with a valid vehicle licence to use them, this would then make riders accountable (financially and through demerit points) for their actions.

Frankly, I'd much prefer to see rental scooters replace those bikes in Syd CBD that no one uses.

  • Price has gone up, with discount code now $551.65

  • these scooters are fantastic - got 2 for the kids for xmas… rides well on grass.

    • 2 for kids? Don't even have money to buy for an adult to commute to station
