Alcatel Qwerty Phone OT-355 2G Only but Good for Texters! Ritchies Stores $14.50 + Free Backpack

220

Cheap and cheerful (maybe) Qwerty phone at Ritchies supermarkets this week, certainly available in Victoria, not sure about the other states.
It's a basic 2G-only phone but has a few nifty features such as expandable SD card slot, threaded texts, fake call feature and the QWERTY keyboard.
Also as a bonus you get a free backpack.
It's with Vodafone (boo) but perhaps can be unlocked at home?
Anyway overall for $14.50 you can't go too far wrong for a spare/holiday/pub phone.

**Note I couldn't find this listed on their site but it is part of a 141st birthday flyer delivered this week.

fake call feature… haha, worth it for that alone

  • Wow, $15! Why the heck not?

    Specs: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Alcatel-OT-355_id5353

If those specs are correct, then it supports MicroSD cards up to 4GB. If it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, it could be used as a cheap MP3 player too!

  • Looks like there were a few versions.

The Aussie Vodafone one has SD card up to 32Gb but the headphones (included I think) are via USB connector also supposed to have a fairly good volume speakerphone.

    • Hm, maybe it could be used with the many mini-USB headphone adapter doohickies available on eBay?

  • That's a terrific phone for the price. Are these guys in NSW?

    • Looks like they have stores in Victoria, NSW and QLD. But as OP said. No mention of these birthday special on the web site or if available in other states.

i'll send a prepaid post bag.
    contact me. thanks

    • Picked up one today in Queensland (Carindale, Brisbane) - last in store. Good cheap phone. Plays MP3, FM radio, Voice recorder, handsfree earpiece & microphone, takes basic photos, calendar for reminders, tasks, etc. Backpack would cost more! Unlocked it is all I need for traveling most of world. No need for separate MP3 player & can use camera as backup. Unlocked (free) I can insert local sim cards. Nice for price. http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-specs/Alcatel-OT-355#whyb…

    • Talked to Richies IGA Carindale Brisbane today - getting more stock at $14.50 with good Ocean & Earth backpack (they say valued at $50) - special on for 4 weeks. So on sale probably for 3 more weeks!
You can go to Richies IGA website, look for nearest store & email manager. They rang me back & arranged delivery of stock to nearest store!!

    • Online these backpacks sell for over $30 in US (found same one with different design at http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Ocean-Earth-Backpack-Karvin-L…) So this is a bargain even if you want the backpack!!!
      Thanks, I bought 2.

      • Sounds good.
What color backpack did you get, Bruce?

        • Talked to the manager - all are GREY phones & GREY bacpacks
"1 Touch GREY Bundle" on receipt.
          On Sale until 11/9/11.
Plenty instock in Brissie stores today, and more on order.
Watched people leave with up to 3 each.

  • Saw these yesterday at a vodafone kiosk for $29 so good deal.

Brilliant! Just unlocked the phone (for free) - and very happy with backpack. Great deal.

    • Hey chichi what color backpack did you get?
They only had black at my local - fussy daughter didn't want it.

      • It's grey and black I think - my son has taken it to school today so I'm working on memory here.

I don't know whether they had other colours to choose from as I didn't personally buy it.
