so its use $34+ for the thing tab itself every months.

how much is this thing worth that $768 is a bargain?

    • the cheapest price on static ice is $749 for the tablet only :)

  • +2

Are you going to spend over $700 cash to buy it outright? :)

Pity they are terrible, well at least thats my experience.

Have an ipad, my tab,sgt & xoom, the xoom is terrible crashes and is not user friendly.

    • +9

How many tablets do you need? gees. Tablet collector? At least theres someone who can compare the tablets with reason.

      • We need users like Mikinoz to compare the tablets. Positive vote from me. Btw i don't have any tablet yet but planning to buy one soon :D

Alas, we begin to see the mighty value of the OzBargain community!

Being able to save money by wearing free t-shirts, glueing together your reams of staples paper with 2c glue sticks from kmart to form blankets, and (barely) surviving off dominos coupon pizzas, stockpiled free coke zeros and the occasional ben & jerrys tub of ice cream = affording to simultaneously own 4 different tablets

        • Its true, although you missed the free slurpees ;)

    • I have the XOOM on Telstra, it's fantastic. Each to their own but I don't have a bad thing to say about it.

    • which do you recommend the most?

  • it improves a lot with 3.1 honeycomb! anyway, up to you! I ordered 1!

    • +2

The 3.2 update is already out.

  • but in checkout it shows…

    Minimum total cost *$1008.36

  • called optus sales, they confirmed $20 will be minus in the bill monthly…. Also the offer will be expired in 1 or 2 days…

    • What about the online only 1 month free thing? Save a further 10 bux?

  • I didn't ask :)for 1 month free…

  • I think 1 month free still applies as you order online!

  • oops, just checked with sales, there is no 1 month free access as I got discount monthly! :(

Just be sure to get a screen capture of the deal and keep all emails received from optus about the deal. I signed up for a deal (galaxy tab $44.95 for 12 months with first 3 months free) and now they cant find it. Lucky I have all the proof of the deal.

    • +1 Great advice. How often does this happen? We don't know about that deal..??? aaagghhh!!

      • You need an ABN though. Still there. I ran into it several days ago.

  • Sorry, just noticed you have to choose plan length in drop down box. Thanks for posting :-)

I love the Iconia too much. A proper USB port is the most useful tablet feature ever.
    Great deal though.

    • I have to agree with you on that !!!

  • "4GB peak data
    8GB off-peak data"

    so 12gb all up?
kinda like the broadband plans with 60gb peak/120gb off-peak for example?

    • I was really surprised at this. Of the 'Big 3' Android makers, Motorola seemed to be the one which had the most trouble picking itself up. While I like the Xoom, I like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad 2 more, and yet the Xoom's the most expensive tablet on the market.

  • +1

I wonder why they're putting the price down… Xoom 2 coming soon?

    Regardless - VERY TEMPTING!!!!

    • +2

there is no longer a xoom 2 tab possible,

a Nexus Tablet by Googlerola, now that's a catcher ;)

      • Isn't Amazon aiming at taking the tablet game by storm?

I ordered one myself, but according to this under terms and conditions : http://www.optus.com.au/store/plantermspop.php?plan_ref=5995…

^$20 off your monthly access fee: offer is available to approved new and recontracting Optus Mobile Broadband customers signing up to a Data Cap $59.95/$79.95, Data Cap Plus $59.95/$79.95, My iPad $59.95/$79.95 or Data Cap Plus Voice $69.95/$89.95 plans for 12 month, 24 month or month-to-month between 15/07/11 to 30/11/2011. A $20 credit will be applied to your account each month while you remain connected and if you have signed up to a contract (12/24 month plan), you will receive the full credit by the completion of your contract. The credit will appear on your account from the second bill. The credit is not transferable and is not redeemable for cash. Offer may be withdrawn at anytime. Not available in conjunction with any other offer.

I have my doubt if the $29.95 plan is eligible for the $20 credit, it may be just a system glitch and is up to Optus to decide whether they will honor it, I suppose.

Ok, just received the device and now on the phone with Optus to confirm that the $20 off is applicable before activating the service. So far, it appeared that the staff doesn't know about that and the service plan on their database is not listed with the $20 off per month. They have put me on hold after I mentioned regarding the screencap of the page that I created when ordering. Will keep you all updated.

      • if you need the capture image to show them, please let me know… How is the tablet?

        • I did a screen cap myself when I ordered as well, was speaking to a member from the online sales support team (name was Jazzlle? or something sounded similar?). Anyways, she insisted that the $20 off is only applicable for the $59.95 plan. I advised her regarding the screen capture and suggested that I can emailed to her if she wanted further details, she provided me an Optus address ([email protected]) for me to send the screen cap to as she needs to discuss with her manager / supervisor regarding that.

So, in other words, it's still not confirmed yet.

        • She just called back and is now saying that this does not apply to this plan and if I click on the $20 off logo that will bring me to the terms and conditions page.

I mentioned to her that the listed minimal cost did in fact refer to the $20 off credit being applied onto the life of the contract. She has now put me back on hold.

Seems like Optus is trying everything they can to get themselves out of this.

        • She agreed that the $20 should be applied but she cannot do anything about it as the service had been activated. She suggested that I may want to call the support team after the first bill (sounds like a delaying tactic to me). I am now speaking with the tech support / general billing enquiry team on 133 697, will update if there is any outcome.

        • According to the billing enquiry team member, it appeared that Jazzelle did not put the information and discussion regarding the screen cap in the file notes (guess it was right that I gave the support team immediately after that). The support team member is now trying to talk to Jazzelle regarding the matter and will be giving me a call back (hopefully today).

I would suggest all Ozbargainers who have ordered this using this deal to contact Optus ASAP to confirm that the $20 discount is applicable for their service plan as it appears to me that Optus has no idea regarding this glitch (and/or is not planning to do anything about it).

        • Just called again to follow up and they denied that the screenshot contains anything in reference to the $20 discount offer. Instead, they have offered to provide a $10 discount or switch to another plan where this is being offered instead. I do not think the offers that they have provided are acceptable and have requested to speak to the team supervisor, otherwise, I have also mentioned that I may be making a formal complaint to the TIO as Optus was misrepresenting their products when I signed up the plan.

Person spoken to during this conversation.
          Representative : Vilei
          Staff id : CP488423

        • Just got a call from Gen (staff no. CP310050), who was the supervisor of the staff that I spoke to earlier on, she insisted that there was no such $20 off offer on their database. I advised her that I did not have access to their database and their website was representing that the total cost of the plan is $768.36 which concurred with the $20 discount as listed in the flag next to the plan itself. She was unable to offer any further assistance but have escalated the complain and forwarded the case to their customer relationship team. I should be hearing from them in 24-48 hours.

My advice for those who had ordered this and expecting a total cost of $768.36 out of the 12 month period remains the same - they should contact Optus ASAP as it appears to be that something dodgy is going on with Optus here.

Hi All.. I also ordered one on 15/08 and received it today. I called optus to check if $20 off has been applied and they said that it was never available on a 29.95 dollar plan!!

Fortunately, I had taken a screen shot with date etc and I am now following it up with Optus. I have received a few calls from them but it is very annoying how a big player like optus can stoop so low. They are now saying there was an astrix next to '$20' off logo. My question to them was (1) Why did it say "Total minimum costs on 12 month plan is $768.36"? (2) If they think they are right then why have they removed '$20' off logo and the text "Total minimum costs on 12 month plan is $768.36" from their website!!

Coming from IT background here is I think what probably has happenned, somebody in Optus IT or Online Portal team, had published this deal online by mistake, OR there was a bug in the online software, which was rectified by the same team when lot of people started buying Motorola Zoom online and it was escalated within Optus.

We all screw things up but then we just accept it and work around it. Optus is doing just the otherway around. Instead of accepting their mistake and working around it, they are throwing the blame back on us. In fact I am not even asking them to give me a discount, I am asking them to take their UNUSED product back if they can't give me that discount.

I am determined to fight it and take it to TIO if required. This is the last time me or any of my family member is dealing with Optus ir they don't fix this.

Sorry for such a long text .. you can see how frustrated I am.

  • Dupe comment.

  • I just checked the website and the offer was expired :(

  • +1

This offer definitely works and doubt it's expired. Would run until the end of the month. I signed up and received mine 01/08 after a friend (who works at an optus dealer) told me about it. Apparently they do not advertise it.

There is also an option for over 24 months - $19 plan (500mb) and ~15.50 handset repayment over 24 months for a total of ~$830. You get less data but you receive an extra year's warranty :) as Optus must now warranty all contracted products for the life of the contract.

    • Matter of fact, expired already…

      • Maybe online, but have you tried in store? or a telechoice or HN?

  • +1

Was it expired because so many oz-bargainers ordered it yesterday ? :)

  • Was there an hour ago, gone now …

  • very happy when it becomes google xoom as we will get the latest updates by the earliest time!

  • sent! Gd luck :)

  • hey guys sent the screen shot and they will honour the deal,

  • Deal still available at my local HN today, I asked them

    • Can you please tell me which HN, I mean the suburb?

  • Just wondering if any Ozbargainers have a screenshot of the offer of $29.95 per month with $20 off on the 12 month plan??

I signed up, got my first Bill.. and no discount..

….Then call Optus to verify the discount and sure enough "they dont know of such an offer"…

    • mate give me your email id.. I'll send it to you.

Do not listen to them .. Do not give in… they will bullshit around with you..

They have applied the discount of $240 (12 months * 20) to my first bill upfront. In fact they will also give an additional $29.95 discount in the third month for online purchases.

Let me know if you need any additional help.

You can also quote my name , email or customer number if required. I'll send it to you in an email.

      Good luck

      • Thanks mate that would be much appreciated!!
