No bargain; all the parts are worth about $442 (prices mostly from MSY, some parts replaced with comparable products obviously)

    $193 Intel i5 2400
    $80 Gigabyte H61M-USB3
    $46 8GB G.Skill Ram
    $39 500GB WD Blue
    $24 LG DVD drive
$60 Generic case with bomb labelled 550W PSU (max price)

    $442

    • -1

you must be pricing the wrong parts because we can't even get that price. this is also delivered Express Post.

      • +1

All the prices except the case/PSU are from their current catalogue, please correct me if I misread anything.

        http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

Since you don't specify the case/PSU model, I'm going to assume its the cheapest one available. And I specifically said this was the value of the parts (not inclusive of assembly and shipping). I suppose when you include it, the price will be somewhat similar, but thats just a regular price.

        • LOL~so funny, the rep probably never heard of MSY and coz that's what i thought when i first saw MSY's price~

        • yeah, have fun trying to understand their catalogue if you've never read it before

        • -4

Half of MSY's parts are not even in-stock and come on man you and i know that. H61M board is alot dif to H67 board also

and G.skill ram is cheap stuff and you know n i know it as well ;) you'll end up spending more money in petrol taking it back and having to change it over for ram that works most of the time =)

        • Ah… guess I did overlook the chipset.

If you're using a better brand of RAM, please specify so your customers know not to assume the cheapest.

        • +2

well then given that its an extra $50 which still brings the total to under 500. Free post =/= $49

Trying to argue that msy is bad is pointless. They are one of the cheapest, yes they are out of stock at times, but if 100 people bought pc's from you everyday then you'd also be out of stock at times too.

        • Dan has not added in a labour charge and delivery cost also. probably $70 for a build from MSY and Australia post EXPRESS POST courier costs. this deal might not be good for you guys and people like know it all geniuses who know how to go to MSY and make an order but for people who might live far from an MSY or UMART etc. who might live in the bush would like to order a computer and not have to drive somewhere far to get a decent deal. I believe that this deal isn't so bad after all is it?

          $193 Intel i5 2400
          $115 Gigabyte H67-USB3
$59 8GB kingston or (corsair in this case) Ram
          $39 500GB WD Blue
          $24 LG DVD drive
$60 Generic case with bomb labelled 550W PSU (max price)
          $70 Labour charge
          $70+ EXPRESS POST Delivered

          Total - $630

We are trying to honestly put up a good deal for people so why do you just keep giving negative votes?

        • I haven't given anyone a negative vote; all I've said was that this is a fairly average price if you know where to look and isn't really a "crazy special" price to me.

        • sorry dan i didnt mean to direct it at you i just ment everyone in general because now no one can see the ad on ozbargins anymore :(

      • +2

Margins in PC hardware are razor thin if you want to compete.

While this is definitely a problem for you, one I sympathise with, it doesn't change the fact there's no real benefit to users of the website in this deal.

The chipset difference would only add $15-$20 to the price.

      • Nothing wrong with G.Skill RAM - after all, DRAM is only manufactured by a handful of companies and G.Skill use memory from Samsung/Infineon and presumably others.

In fact G.Skill used to have a reputation for low latency, overclockable RAM kits. Given how cheap their products are now I would assume they are also in the value segment too.

    "Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit * 30 Day Trial Pre-installed", wtf ? lol

    • Meaning they won't provide you with a license for it.

      • Yeah, it basically means NO OS… because Win7 can be installed at used for 30 days before it asks for the license key.

      • My point being their rig is $100 more than MSY and no OS, BS !!

    • wouldn't you prefer something then nothing though? some people do not know how to install windows so this can be in need for them :)

      • lol yeh, i would have to agree with the rep here

        • +1

I'm not saying its bad, but its about as good as nothing. I mean if they don't know how to install windows, what do you expect them to do after 30 days? Learn how to install Ubuntu? Or fork out the money for a retail license?

      • +1

        http://www.massatech.com.au/products/Gamer-DF%252d85.html

        even on a $3k system…. ???

and having Dell in the title of your ebay listings, what with that?

        • alot of older people do not know how to use Ubuntu or even know what that is though…

        • He's saying people would assume it wouldn't be a trial version of Windows on such an expensive product.

Older folk especially would have this problem. I'm not sure what your reply has to do with it.

I have stated in the add that Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit loaded (licence and disc) +$120
I haven't stated in the title or description that it comes with it, its on the website for my other customers that might stumble upon it and let them know that they can have the trial version on it. if someone doesn't want it installed they can easily just let us know.

after 30 days, they have the choice to simply purchase a key online :S. that is for the "what do you expect them to do after 30 days?" comment.

We are trying to honestly put up a good deal for people so why do you just keep giving negative votes?

Props for the deceptive 1GB+ shared onboard graphics. Why not label it 8GB and really sucker them in?

Otherwise, while not much of a bargain… still a half decent price.

  • Crap price.
Got a lenovo laptop during their sale, $599, has 1GB DEDICATED graphics (wtf is 1GB integrated graphics?)
It also is an i5-2410M (sure it's not a desktop).
Your deal doesn't include a keyboard, or a screen, or a mouse, nor does it have an OS included.
Come on dude, those are terrible prices.
    You've seen UMART's prices.
MSY do have stock, you just have to wait 2 hours for it.

    • Laptops are alot dif in speeds to desktops my friend.

      • Yeah well at least it has a full legit OS as well as dedicated graphics, a screen, a touchpad, a keyboard and free delivery. What is someone going to do with a speedy desktop with a 'trial' version of windows, no keyboard, no screen, no mouse? Type notes? Get real.

  • not good

Distributing an unlicensed copy of Windows 7 is illegal.

I'll give you some time to remove it or I'll be contacting the appropriate people about what you are doing.

Also list your ABN on your website, I had to look it up manually….

Also you appear to be dangerously close to the $75000 GST threshold. You are not registered for GST, if you are above $75000 in TURNOVER per year, you must register for GST.

Also tip: Don't have the same email address for your ABN as myspace, especially if you have a public myspace.

    • -1

      @Samfisher,

just out of curiosity, how did u find out they are close to the $75000 GST threshold??

      • +1

I added up his sales purely from his eBay store for the financial year.

So lets hope he hasn't made many sales on his website.

        Edit:

Actually further research seems to show that he has actually gone past $75k. I just didn't count multiple quantities from the same person, when doing that it goes over…..

        • -1

also dont forget the other ebay id, which the link on the webpage took me to originally

          http://myworld.ebay.com.au/massa_tech/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

        • if you go back and look at the dates the feedback is over 3 years old so don't count all of it for just 1 year.

the company runs under MASSA Media but we call it MASSA Technology to distinguish the differences.

        • -1

I counted the feedback within one financial year.

But I guess you have nothing to worry about if your turnover is less then 75k

        • -1

Yes but not all customers have bought the units, alot of people click the buy it now button and then cancel the item for other reasons but they are still able to post a feedback on your profile. These people are nice enough to still give you feedback even though they changed there minds.

I still don't understand how you don't have anything better to do but to "investigate" my eBay store aswell.

Go play L.A. Noire or something dude.

        • Don't worry, the ATO has recently obtained information from ebay for sellers who are meant to be declaring GST and other undeclared income.

If he is doing anything wrong WRT GST and income, it will be found.

    • Well, this OzB post certainly opened a rabbit hole for the rep!

    • installing a trial version of Windows 7 isn't illegal.

      • Well Daniel if your going to be like that I'm going to contact the BSAA tomorrow then.

Windows 7 does not have a distributable trial, they give you a 30 day grace period to activate your software, that's it.

        • -1

WOW, Sam. lol have i done something to offend you in any way? why do you have so much hatred against me?

do you not have anything else better to do with your life but to hate on random people for no reason?

        • I don't hate you?

Why would I not report a business who is doing something illegal, especially when the business is even pretending like what they are doing is legal.

What about all the legit business's that want to sell computers but don't want to break the law.

Why should you have an unfair advantage because you don't care about ripping off Microsoft?

        • -2

Its a 30 day free "trial" period dude. it states it when its installed, If anything its a favor to Microsoft because it generating more income for them, if Microsoft didn't allow it they wouldn't have any period as an option in the first place wouldn't you think?

every computer company does it today, this isn't news man even check it online eBay at the moment.

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INTEL-Core-i7-2600-3-4GHz-DESKTOP…

this guy is selling like crazy, don't you think that if it was even illegal that eBay wouldn't have a part of it and he would be reported already?

Ive double checked this online of course and i cant find anywhere that Microsoft states that this is illegal unless you selling it but I'm not selling it, its FREE as an option.

Please elaborate your concern because I'm sure you will.

        • Just because other people do it, it doesn't mean its ok to do.

Also on your example of someone else doing something illegal

"* Please Note: If the customer does not purchase the Windows 7 DVD, we will wipe off all the data on the hard drive after we finish testing the computer. So the customer will receive a computer without any software installed. And the customer have to install the Windows himself/herself after he/she receives the computer. "

He is doing what actual computer companies ACTUALLY DO which is

Microsoft offer the ability to put a 30 day trial of Microsoft Office on a legitimate Windows 7.

I'll be checking back here tomorrow. Call Microsoft yourself and ask them.

I'm honestly trying to give you a chance to get out of this without getting in trouble.

        • -1

Hmmmmmm, Thanks, Interesting and you make a good point. I actually didn't notice that, BUT!

Only trial version available is: Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day Trial

Windows 7 Enterprise 90 Day Trial FAQ

On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms.
(You must accept to continue the installation.)

Be forewarned that when the trial expires there is no method of permanent activation
and you must purchase and perform a clean install of Windows 7.

        • +1

"Who is eligible to download Windows 7 Enterprise 90-Day Trial?

A: IT pros, IT decision makers, and developers who are looking to test their hardware, software, and deployment strategies on Windows 7 can download the Windows 7 Enterprise 90-Day Trial. You must correctly fill-out a survey to gain access to the download. Incorrect or incomplete surveys will be denied access to download Windows 7 Enterprise 90-Day Trial. Again, if you already have access to Windows 7 bits through MSDN or TechNet, or are an existing Software Assurance customer, you do not need to download this trial and already have access to the Windows 7 RTM without a timeout period"

          Either way

          1. You are using it for financial gain by selling it with a computer
          2. the customer hasn't contacted Microsoft for it, therefore its not valid
          3. You don't even fit their criteria yourself.
          4. Its specifically for busines's who want to upgrade to Windows 7.

You can't distribute it, call microsoft yourself and ask them.

        • Where the hell do you get w7 enterprise license from… for a non-corporate end-user at home.

        • I'm searching the net and i cant find where it stipulates that its illegal. can you please help me by linking me?

and I will contact Microsoft tomorrow to double check this issue because it is an interesting topic.

        • There is no trial version of Windows 7 Home Premium, but there is nothing preventing you from using the 30 day grace period available when you install Windows 7 Home Premium from a Genuine DVD without a product key as well.

        • -2

@samfisher you're a real stooge - its people like you who ruin OzBargain for others.

        • Let me guess foolysik, you also run a business that does illegal things to compete?

I can't think of any other reason to support illegal practices.

Also massa_tech, the BSAA has been contacted about what you are doing.

      • @samfisher No I don't. But I can see you put guilt trips on others and pretend you are superior and righteous, like you have tried "guessing" with me. I bet you have hard drives full of downloaded illegal content? Don't you… and don't lie… because we all know your full of it

        • Why would I lie?

I'm not making a profit from my pirated TV Shows etc

My pirated content is for personal use, the problem is when you are making a profit from illegal material.

        • +1

So I can steal a car, as long as I don't sell it?

You have pirated content which copyright infringement does not provide a general exception for private or domestic use. In plain English its called "theft" which goes against your initial comment of illegal practices.

And never, ever go to a Computer swap meet - with all the BSAAs you'll be filing - your head will explode!!

        • Think of it this way.

If I tell Microsoft/BSAA that some guy is using a pirated version of Windows, they won't care

If I tell Microsoft/BSAA that a business is doing something, they care.

It doesn't matter what you say, they don't agree with you.

        • If these computers were being given away FREE, you'd be the first to line up for one. If you are going to take the high ground, look at yourself first. Your argument is contradictive, along with all the pirated movies, musics and TV shows etc you have.

        • It wouldn't be the same as stealing a car because someone loses a tangible asset, whereas pirating results in a company losing "potential" revenue. Just putting it out there, not saying if its right or wrong.
