Price match at Officeworks for further saving
Edit: Seems to be OOS for most store

    • Yes, out of stock, and they won't order it in, will they?

      • +2

Yes, OW is out of stock at pretty much all stores I looked at (for Brisbane at least) but if you go in store, they'll order it in if they have stock.

I basically pointed out to the girl at reception that everyone… HN, JB, etc are out of stock in store but have the phone on sale from their websites still. As OW can't do the price beat online, she honoured the price beat and processed the order in store. This was done on Boxing Day and we got the phone the next day.

Note that they may/will add on delivery costs ($7.95 at HN) before calculating the 5% off but that's still sub $950 for a flagship phone.

        • Which officework did you go into?

          • @rdes86: Browns Plains.

They price beat the Oppo Reno 2Z for me a few weeks back when JB had the price down to $449 too.

Really, I'd just try your closest OW first if you haven't already. I've usually had good success getting price beats from different OWs around Brissie from Windsor to the Gabba to the CBD store and even the Mt Gravatt store (I've moved around quite a bit).

            • @Mugsy: Just PMed you. No luck at officework nearest to me.

    • -5

Doesn't have Google maps, don't waste your money on this Chinese junk

  • No stock around Brisbane for both HN or Officeworks.

    • +1

Go in store to OW and they will order it in and give you the price beat. See my post above.

  • +1

Stock is rare in these stores. I went into The Good Guys on boxing day to buy a P30 Pro (they price matched Harvey Norman). There was no stock in any QLD or NSW stores…they were happy to order one in for me. Arrived today :)

    • How is it? Really finding it hard to pick between this or a S10.

      • +5

Definitely Huawei, if you not stucked with Samsung ecosystem

      • +3

        Huawei :D

      • +5

Trip: I only opened the box about 1 hr ago…but I already love it - it is so damn quick. I WAS a Samsung fan-boy but after watching many reviews (especially about the camera) I was sold.

      • -3

Huawei is good if you can deal with the issue of the brand and worse resale value.

        • Also if you can deal being an eye for the Chinese communist party

    • I note that JB Hi-fi appear to have dropped the P30 Pro from their website. Perhaps to avoid having to price match?

      • +4

They have run out of P30 Pro in the whole country . They have a few limited stock everywhere thus removed from website till they restock that is according to Jbhifi rep that i spoke to today.

What a name for a colour! “Breathing Crystal”

    • I really wanted a black one…but the breathing crystal is not too bad. The case will cover it anyway.

      • Black is quite a bit rarer. I wanted one too but ended up getting Aurora which I like better than Breathing Crystal

        • +1

Yeah, we wanted Aurora too (OW has 'blue' in their system) but ended up with Breathing Crystal. Oh well, at least I got the phone for the girlfriend and earnt some brownie points too.

          • @Mugsy: I always thought the Cystal colour looked more femanine anyway. It still looks cool but I just prefer Aurora.

Unless you get a case that shows it off, it won't matter anyway right? :)

            1st world problems.

            • @Click_It: Yeah, the girlfriend said the same thing that unless she used a clear case, the colour won't matter.

              • @Mugsy: Not being confident in the clear silicon one I switched to this:
                https://www.mobilezap.com.au/ringke-fusion-x-huawei-p30-pro-…

It comes in 2 colours, blue and black. It's the best I could find without covering the whole thing up. Another good thing about it is the sides are slightly lower than the factory cover which is a big selling point for me as I use a glass screen protector and the stock cover rubs and lifts it over-time (free alternative is to cut it back I guess).

          • @Mugsy: It costs you $1000 for brownie points? Wow.

  • Dam, if I knew this gonna drop to sub 1k so quick ,would have hold off buying s10e couple months ago.. Oh well

  • +1

Bought mine for nearly $1500 a few months ago. 😭

  • Which one would you vote for S10+ or P30 Pro

    • +6

      P30 pro.

      • Thanks eleon00

        • +2

I was tossing up between S10+ and P30 Pro. Went with the P30 Pro after watching many reviews (especially reviews about the camera)

    • +2

P30 pro for battery and photo.
      S10+ for vedio.

      • I am in the same boat trying to justify between P30 Pro vs S10 512Gb .
Looking for dual sim version but hate the screen size jump from 6.1 to 6.47 with ip68 rating. Upgrading from Galaxy S5 (personal) & S8( work ) . I can't decide whether to buy from Harvey Norman or Mobiciti ebay ( with freelace for $1.00) and they have black. Any suggestions ?

    • +1

      s10+

    • Horses for courses

Youtube it and your head will buzz with options. Overall Huawei create much wow for little money and themselves have already a good choice.

Then enjoy it today and scratch your head tomorrow as technology moves on.

Have had the mate 20 pro for a year now… Loved every minute of the 11 months.

    Huawei easily before the ban….

    But now I think about it… Samsung 10+ 100% for sure now….

Huawei banned from future Android services.

In the future versions = No google maps. No Gmail. No YouTube. No facebook. Means a no deal for me. No point integrating on a dead horse.

At least Samsung is Korean. Will always have the Asian technology and Google software.

Who knows. 10-20 years from now Google maps and Gmail becomes the yahoo and MySpace… Maybe Huawei takes over with their own rediculously good software…

Until then :'( goodbye my love.

Will 100% get the s11+ in a few months when my plan is up.

    • +11

The P30 Pro won't be affected by the bans…only future Huawei phones will be dropping android

      • -2

        Thanks Tony.

        I did clearly state that

        • +6

I don't know about "clearly", that post was hard to read :)

Or maybe I'm just over tired

          • -4

@Click_It: He said wawei banned in future android devices. What u need this to be written in chinese?

      • +1

For now yes, the ban might be lifted or even apply to current models, Huawei also could upgrade OS to its own Hongmeng.

    • +4

P30 pro will still have updates.
Mate 30 pro and p40 won't have Goggle services.

      • -4

        Thanks melblover

I stated future Huawei are no longer compatible…

I would rather stay with Samsung and properly integrate with them rather moving in a year or two….

    • Cool story bro

      Would read again

Has anyone heard of any issues with the camera on the P30 Pro or am I really that bloody useless at taking photos with the best phone camera on the market?

Recent trip to the wildlife park and half my family photos came out blurry or heavily saturated with strong reds throughout the photos and no idea what the hell I am doing wrong.

I was just after a phone that could do all the tricky shit for me and leave me with nice photos.

    • +3

Huawei by default uses AI master and does blurry effect on background for portraits. Disable it if you don't like it.

It is saturated because again by default it enhances people face doing touch ups. I think its not natural.

Huawei is especially good for zoom and night photos but I won't count on it for video.

I already have a DSLR for shooting long distance. I don't need another phone to do the same.

A great phone is only good for those who know how to use it. You can't expect everything on auto and no tinkering to work perfectly

      • Good to see someone have a deeper understanding of the camera features rather than just look at the results without knowing how they were achieved.

      • Cheers for the tips mate.

Will do more research into how to adjust.

In all honesty I went into JB for the Mate 20 but they were sold out and the bloke sold me the P30 Pro for pretty good price so grabbed it on a whim.

Solid phone, I'm just a peanut at taking photos.

        • +1

All good mate. Just turn off AI for the time being. Shooting on auto that way for a while, I believe you would be impressed already doing just that. Disabling AI will also turn off saturated colours as it no longer enhances with its algorithms. I used p20 pro before and I recommend turning on AI master at night due to more stable night still photos. But for any ordinary shooting disable AI, unless you want the portrait mode. Professionals call that the "bokeh" effect which is to highlight the person face in focus and blur the background. This effect is usually done on digital SLR cameras using special lens which nowadays you can simulate the same on smartphones

The Huawei had an update software recently which is very easy to switch on off the AI master from the camera app. P30 pro would have this already. It used to be sitting under settings page, you would have to go back and forth everytime which was very annoying.

There's a huge market in China for taking selfies and beautify them. This is the main selling point and so the AI master is programmed to enhance way too much of people faces to a point it's not natural looking.

          Anyhow have fun.

          • @neonlight: Thanks again for taking the time to write all that info up mate.

Will have another play tomorrow and hopefully get a better feel to it all.

Have a great new year :)

Its a shitty phone what do u expect.

best phone camera on the market?

    https://youtu.be/gjiqbl1N22o?t=711

    • -2

good video (be sure to watch through it all.)

      • Firstly, that's the Mate 30 Pro in that video, not the P30 Pro. There are still differences in performance (the P30 pro has a wider wide-angle lens and that seems to perform better for night shots than the Mate 30 pro).

Secondly, this is probably not the place to argue the point of best camera phone on the market… dpreview.com is better for that. This is OzBargain at the end of the day where the cost-benefit analysis function for most of us is turned on by default. One would be hard pressed to find an iPhone Pro Max below $1800 that's non-grey stock… and staticice indicates that's only the 64Gb model. The 256Gb model is over $2k. I think most people would be happy to pay less than 50% the cost of an iPhone Pro Max but get flagship features and performance, even if it's subjectively not as good.

These are camera phones at the end of the day… they're designed for convenience and instagram pictures. My entry level Olympus OM-D E-M10 mk2 with a cheap, sharp prime lens like the Panasonic 15mm f/1.7 will produce much better results and can be had for $1k all up during sales. If optical performance is that important, one can get a P30 Pro and the camera combo I mention for the same price as as the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Will this be the best option for everyone… of course not. Like all things photography, there's no right or wrong… you get the product that meets your needs (usually within your price range) and that will be different for everyone.

  • +2

If only it had a flat screen :( … curved displays are terrible .. apparently call quality is not very good.

  • Good price, but slightly cheaper here and you get a set of FreeLace Waterproof headphones thrown in:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/509285

    • +1

Cheapest is the price beat at OW if one doesn't need the headphones.

I did that for my girlfriend's one… was surprised they got stock in so quickly considering stock is out almost everywhere.

      • So you could price match at a store with no stock & they got it in for you?

        • +1

See my post up at the top of the comments (the reply to your post about 11hrs ago).

  • -6

Another day, another listening device from Huawei on Chibargin frontpage

  • How do the cameras compare to the P20 Pro? Much of an upgrade?

  • Waiting for Amazon to price match and delivered for free on prime

    • Amazon had this price few days ago but now it is out of stock. With 12% cashback shopback, it would bring the price down to $938.

      • Shopback is 3.5% for phones, unless you're talking about the sitewide boxing day event they had.

  • The best phone even. Love it.

  • -4

Huawei the brand that came from nowhere to take over the snapshot market. Temporary Zenith in freezing memories. Technology will move on and Chinese customers in their home land already enjoy cheaper phones with 120 megapixel cameras.

Other countries, other emotions: If you visit a historic monument in India you face a long list of entry prices. Say 50 cent for Indians who look standard or have an ID to qualify. Then 10 bucks for foreigners without phone or 15 with phone. No hiding as they pat you down. They simply think your phone will take pictures hence the surcharge.

If you are an old grey haired German tourist with a huge SLR you might get in for 10 bucks. Indians have great respect for the old and the Germans did not invade their country so they feel truly sorry for being so old fashioned carrying something large that could be achieved with something small.
If you look like a professional photographer they might pick you for wearing a dull dark shirt as many of them do and you have to negotiate a commercial use fee.
