Amazon had heaps of the B+D tools on sale on prime day. My B+D gear from the Supercheap clearance sale is still going nicely for me.

B&D are a bit of a toy… a general good rule of thumb is that anything with a plastic chuck is not fit to be abused or heavily used (fine for light residential use). I'd stick the the ozito power x range for best bang for buck 18v cordless power tools. Just my 2c.

My Dad's B&D lasted 30 years. Doesn't look anything like this one though. Made in Australia and probably cost a day's wage or more.

My Makita has a plastic chuck collar, and has survived years of abuse, so I wouldn't worry on that score.
But the recent $49 Ozito deal was awesomne - I got a couple as gifts :-)

    Decker I hardly knew her.

37nm seems a bit low for an 18v

  • Thanks went and got one. 4 more in stock at Burwood NSW now.

  • Saw this the other day. For $29 it's okay if you can't afford anything better.
I bet they laughed every time someone bought it for $49 before.

For what it’s worth. I bought a Black and Decker 18v hedge trimmer and line trimmer combo from Masters when they were a thing. I’ve also got a drill and a impact drill. So far the chuck on the drill jammed open. The hedge trimmer stopped working because the magic smoke escaped and the line trimmer’s auto feed broke and basically fed all the line out. The line trimmer is easy enough to fix. I haven’t had a chance to investigate the issue with the hedge trimmer. And the drill was cheaper to buy a new one than to send back to B&D to fix. So I don’t consider B&D 18v kit to be something that will last a lifetime.

    • On the flip side. I bought the 18v Hedge trimmer and blower from Masters ($99 each from memory with battery and charger each) and already had the Matrix drill system combo I bought from Catch back in the day. All of them are still going great and batteries still hold great charge 5+ years on. I especially love the Matrix trim saw, jigsaw, and impact driver attachments. I use the impact driver attachment as a rattle gun at track days for changing wheels etc.

  • Plastic junk with no support.
