  • What compared to the Hisense 85R7? (apart from the three inches)

I've taken a good look at it in store a few times. It looks like an IPS panel to me. I also didn't see the claimed full array local dimming. It's definitely back lit but I didn't see any evidence of local dimming taking place.

      • Cool, looks like 85R7 it is. Thanks

        • I was talking about the Hisense. I would go the Samsung every time.

          • @tp0: Every single sales person I speak to at jb pans the 75" 7100. They recommend the hisense to me every time. I ended up buying the 75r7 last week. The black levels are very good compared to my 2016 high end lg 75". The lg sucks big times with dimming and black levels. The hisense was about a third of the price.

            • @hazzad: The RU7100 is definitely a low end TV. It has zero HDR capabilities. Standard Rec.709 colour space coverage and fairly low brightness only suitable for SDR content.

The R7 isn't much better though. I believe it's only marginally brighter and has similar colour gamut due to also not having Quantum Dots.

JB staff are likely just pushing whatever gives them a better commission. I'd still prefer the low end Samsung for the superior image processing and Smart TV app support.

              • @tp0: Well based on what I've seen in store the r7 has a much nicer image and better pop to image than the 7100. The hdr and DV on my r7 beats the crap out of my lg. Plus the r7 supports DV and is also 200 hz, neither of which are supported by the 7100. The R6 is more in line with the 7100.

According to Rtings.com the Hisense R8 is equal to the Samsung RU8000. This suggests that the R7 will be slightly inferior, probably closer to the RU7300/7100. Pricing backs this up.

It's hard to compare with US Hisense models since they get better panels than we do and the model numbers are completely different. The best source of info is UK reviews where there appears to be some similarities between what they sell there and here.

  • Is the 65" oled?

    • No, it's normal LED.

    • +1

Samsung don't make OLED Televisions (unless you meant QLED), in which case the answer is still, 'no'.

The built in ads in the menu are a deal breaker for me.

  • Picked the ru8000 65 for $1445 I was happy with that price as they had the unit in stock, purchased Jb hifi

Love the smart functionality it’s very intuitive and responsive
