The chicken is so good there!!
    So freaking juicy (ˆڡˆ)

Have to agree! The supermarket chooks are nowhere as good.

And some coleslaw and dinner sorted.

Might have to try them again.. Bought one about a year ago and found it really fatty and tasteless. Much preferred woolies chooks

    • Genetically modified chicken ? Lol

    • +3

Last time I had one about a year ago, the meat was so tender it had texture more like firm tofu - almost like it had been sitting in meat tenderiser for a week. Initial morsel was tasty, but the more you eat the more you wonder.. is this even chicken? And I haven't bought one since.

      • +1

I agree with shapers and Jikx…I bought one a few months ago and something about the taste and texture just wasn't right. I wondered if they had somehow pumped it up with water. I wouldn't buy one again.

        • Agree with the comments that their chicken is too moist and bland. I normally cut the chicken in pieces and recook on the pan with oil and garlic for extra taste

      Better than El Jannah?

      • +3

Nothing is better than El Jannah. Everything else is just wannabe El Jannah chickens.

How come the picture has one for $6.99, but the price was apparently $5.98? What's the codes that someone found once? '.98' is a manager's special or something?

    • Was gunna say, save $2 as they went up to $7 last year

  • +1

    Big steggles chickens too.

  • Fun fact: Costco sold over 1.9 million of these chickens last year

      poor little chickens :(

      • +12

This is Costco, they are pretty big.

  • Wish I had a Costco near me. Sure beats paying minimum $9 for one at IGA (or even more at Coles/WW).
Normal price is still a bargain imo.

    • I think C/W mark down to $5- very often.

By then it's as dry as a nun.

        • Steam them and they'll be alright

  • Normally $6? That's still insanely cheap.

    • Yup it’s one of the items they claim to make a loss on

      • -3

So there's not much point in vegans or non-white meat eaters shopping at Costco because on average, everything else is more expensive to pay for the hulk-chooks.

        • +3

          non-white

Hey buddy, everyone, no matter what skin colour is welcome at Costco!

    • They're normal $6.99 now as the stickers says. Still very cheap.

  • 6.99 in vic

  • +2

Pretty sure they are normally $6.98 these days!l?

    • Was $6.99 today at Costco Auburn!

  • now that's cheap!

  • +5

Am I the only one that doesn't like their chicken? Yeah it's big and cheap but it always comes out pink in the middle and fairly tasteless. If you're in the Marsden Park area go grab big chiefs chicken at rooty Hill instead lol

    • Never had an issue with the ones from Marsden Park. Always cooked properly but not overcooked and supplied by Steggles.

We generally buy a couple each visit, one for dinner, one for cold meats etc and use the bones to make stock for gravy and so on.

    • I haven't tried the Marsden Park ones (even though I go there often), but the Lidcomb ones are almost always undercooked.

I’ve occasionally seen the rotisserie chickens marked down towards closing time at my local Costco in Auburn; once in fact when I was there close to 8 pm, there was a nearby staff member I overheard instructing someone on the other end of his walkie talkie to mark down the chooks, and I picked one up for $4

    • Wow im surprised they had to. Normally at my local (Adelaide) they sell out long before the next batch are ready. Almost never see more than 5-6 of them sitting under the heat lamps

      • The auburn store never seems to run out while I’m there, even after I’ve seen people load up their trolleys to the brim with chooks. Can also usually see them preparing more behind the counter, and think they usually anticipate having some more on hand

Bought them a few times but always undercooked and pink inside.

    • +5

Colour is not a reliable indicator of being cooked. That's an old wives tale.

      • Dear captnrosco,

        Please stop eating pink chicken.
        Kind Regards,

Your local council's waste management dept.

I'd guess the pink colour is nitrates/nitrites used in the brining process. I'm thinking this is what makes them have that texture. Nothing wrong with it. It's just a slight cure.

Yuck, wouldn't buy one again after so many weird flesh issues…
