  • What if battery runs flat when locked outside?

    • +1

You can normally charge them with a battery from the outside ( one time open)

      But the OP can confirm

    • +1

Use a 9V against two contacts to let you put the code in.

Plenty of warning about the battery going flat though.

  • You need to carry a 9V battery all the time in your pocket in case you need to jump start the battery in the lock. I rather prefer the Yale lock with a key

    • +1

The battery comes with last for at least 1 and half years.

It will notify you once the battery goes low.

You don't have to carry the 9V battery with you all the time.

The whole point of switch to digital lock is you will never need to worry about calling a locksmith to replace the lock in case the key is lost.

    • You can just leave the battery outside. You still need the code as well.

do these work with hass.io to unlock?

    • Yes, you need to get a Z-wave module to make it work with the Home Assistant hub.

      • +1

Can it work with the ZigBee as well for hass.io? I've got the mock but haven't got a module yet

      • I'm using OpenHAB and bought this along with the Z-wave module. Doesn't seem to do much despite even after being included.

On another note, the batteries that came with it are pretty terrible, didn't last even one year. However, that's easily changed to proper brand batteries.

Amazon sells the lock without the module for $99 USD when on sale (about $180 AUD), CamelCamelCamel is your friend. Z-Wave module is about $90.

We recommend Ozbargain members to purchase from Australian authorized dealers.

You don't want to send the lock back to US if it goes faulty.

  • Yes, the Zigbee can also work with Hass.io but only Open control.

You can not change the password unless you use Yale's phone app or Homekit.

  • Thanks. I haven't even got hass.io running yet. Could you explain what this means compared to deciding to go with zwave.

I was also considering importing the august module, but not sure if that rules out using with hass.io totally.

    • Have look at ZigbeeToMqtt.

    • I bought this lock from JB Hi-Fi and the August network module from Amazon (via US). I got the August module because it works with all the services (Home Kit, Google Assistant, Alexa). Works well. Only thing if you buy the August module is you need a US to Australia adapter for the WiFi bridge (Voltage was fine as the adapter supports 240v). Haven’t tried it with hass.io, so can’t comment on that.

  • Can these locks be opened via a the app remotely over the internet?

    • Yes, you can open this lock form your phone app over the internet.
