  • Lowest price ever nice find

Hardly no stock about though. Mostly QLD and NSW. The handfull i checked had little to no stock in Vic.

  • +3

Yup never any stock for these eb deals.

  • I’ve never used them before but aren’t these things like a one time claimable reward thing on your consoles. Doesn’t that make pre-owned a bit obsolete and just a collectable.

I'm also curious - I thought they were usually limited to one per account hence maintaining the resale value of the Amiibo but I never really looked into this so happy to be corrected.

Depends on the games - if it's a costume unlock or similar you'll only need to scan it once, other games it'll give you a small in game bonus and you might be able to scan it once per day. They can also be scanned on as many different accounts or consoles as you like.

      • +1

Ok so even the costume unlock stuff, you could scan it, give it to a friend and they could scan the exact same thing?

        • Yep! Works perfectly.

They work multiple times and do different things in a variety of games

I'd argue the physical collectible side of it is FAR more appealing than any benefit they have ingame…. there are VERY few that have anything particularly interesting… I know people were up in arms with the last Metroid game having a difficulty level locked behind one…

99.9999% of the stuff is just useless cosmetics.

I had the complete set up until they released Summer Isabelle, which just broke me…. all those stupid Animal Crossing ones really got to me after the lack lustre game. Now I just keep the select sets I like (Metroid, Zelda, Yoshis and 8 bit Mario/Zelda).

      • Agreed, the being collectible is the main appeal of the figures. If you're after just the in game features there you can use the cards instead.

      • If even one is useful, and 99.9999% are not, then that would mean there would have to be a million Amiibos released :)

        • LOL, but in fairness many amiibos can do multiple things, so we'll need to factor that into the equation…

    • They have various uses across games and don't become used up after tapping.
Some amiibo save data on them but you wipe it through the Switch menu.

    • No they can be repeatable. For example, in Super Mario Odeyssey the Bowser amiibo show you the location of purple coins - one set per tap. And you tap then when inside the game, not generally in the console, so future games that you buy could also use the amiibo.

    • You can also buy NFC cards/stickers and use the same codes to get game unlocks..

It is more about collecting the figure id say.

  • Victoria pretty much 0 stock anywhere
NSW has like 2 stores with stock of more popular ones
    QLD the same

Absolutely no stock in any of the local stores

Sounds like the usual EB deal. Decent price and no stock.

Will let you know tomorrow after I clean out the second store in Woop Woop :)

        • Look forward to it and my 18 hr + drive :)

  • Order cancelled :\

Yeh this is why eb games sucks dick. But as for the amiibos themselves, they're cool. Hey I'm lucky enough to say i tapped Peach! Mario was not impressed.

This is ongoing for almost a year with no stock. Arbitrary price reduction because there's 1 in stock somewhere

    • I got 7 yesterday (all unique). I went back today and asked what they actually had in stock and the staff brought the box out from the back. I propped them up and took photos and just now got 9 more which were all duplicates of the first 7. Surely my local store can't be the only one that had 16 units available?

      • Good luck to you. I've tried multiple eb's, some of them multiple times. Yet to snag a bargain. Only the most vanilla of amiibos have I seen.

        • +2

Interestingly these Amiibos weren't on display in the store at all - so I think these sales might come down to which store has items stashed out the back that people don't know they have, so they tend to just languish there until these sales come up to flush them out. I would imagine if these were on the shelf and had $4.95 price tags on them they'd get bought pretty quick at that price point even.

The other EB store I sometimes shop at is much larger and they have zero Amiibos visible anywhere - seemingly they've converted a bunch of space over to Pops.

Look at Lucas, he looks like a protestor from Hong Kong
