  • I have one of these works great.

I have one too. It's great at telling me how unhealthy I am.

  • +2

Been $69 in the past even from CW

  • I have this and it's depressing.

    • +2

      No need to get depressed.
If you are over 120 and "lifestyle changes" are not going to happen, nowadays there are drugs that will help with minimal side effects.
If you are over 140, see your doctor now and get the drugs.

Hypertension is not a disease, but it gives you info you can act on to avoid real disease.

But is this really much better than the cheaper wrist-band models?

        Just more fool proof.

          "Just more fool proof."

Anything can be made 'fool-proof', you just can't make them 'idiot-proof'

Kidding aside, you get a much more accurate reading from a quality B/p device such as this than any wrist-band device. (I have both and prefer the Omron). As always, any abnormal reading should be taken at least 2-3 times and if still abnormal, consult a medical professional immediately (not 'Doctor Google').

Hint: If possible, get as large a cuff as possible for the most accurate reading. Most brands, including Omron, come with a standard cuff which is okay for children and small frame adults, but not the average size Aussie these days.

@et tu brute: Size: too large is poor advice. Bladder circ should be 80% of the arm circ.

            Good fit is essential.

Over 130 now as per latest guidance. And Hypertension is a disease and a risk factor for heart disease, stroke or kidney failure.

The drugs fix a problem now, but causes problems later. Quite a few can cause bad kidney (?) problems down the track.

I take 2 different pills for blood pressure, and I am working on my weight (currently 110kg), but when I found out I had high blood pressure my reading was 180/120, I believe. Doctor said that my weight is a contributing factor, but it shouldn't be causing it to be that high.

My problem is that doctors can't find anything wrong with me, so I guess I'll be on those pills forever. FYI the pills only bring it down to about 130-140/80-100.

  • Bought a $24 upper arm unit off eBay. 200, 4.5+ reviews. Will see how it goes…

FYI: If you need one and have health insurance, check your level of cover as it may be covered. If it is covered make sure you call your health insurance company to find out what else is needed to make a claim.

  • Good deal. Was around $89 during Black Friday sales. I picked this for in laws for $87.94 delivered from David Jones pharmacy. Its around $91 delivered now.

  • I bought exactly the same model for my dad 4 years ago in Vietnam, only $35. How expensive this one is in Australia!

  • Better off getting the Heart Sure unit for $60 shipped. Made by Omron but only 2 year warranty.

I picked up the unit prior to Xmas for $55 off eBay, seems like there is some of them still for sale.

  • it had been $69 in the past couple of times with CW or Priceline

  • I brought the Aldi one and it seems to be ok. I was looking at this one awhile back though.

    • Second the Aldi at only $35 last time it was offered. Check the glass case in store in case any remaining but that will be pot-luck.

  • FYI: made in Vietnam or nearby SE Asian country. Costco sells a Made in Japan version for $100, membership required. Some may prefer this… I have an old Japanese made Omron unit, going strong after more than 15 years!
