No it was for return. It was genuinely misleading.
This time I have found flights for $383 return without the code. With the code NZ200 it comes to $355 return. That's not a $200 discount, that's only $28?!? That's so misleading!!!
Yeah, depends on the travel date I guess. I tried booking fo 31 Jan to 07 Feb and it applied only $100 off for the return journey and that's when I noticed the travel period is 01 Feb 2020 to 30 Nov 2020

Hmm with this sale it's $439 return BNE to ZQN and no bags. Jetstar price is $405 return OOL to ZQN. For ski season.
Check the times of the flights. Last time I went to Christchurch the AirNZ flights were much better timing than Jetstar. Jetstar was going to land me at midnight, vs AirNZ which was around lunchtime/early arvo. So I got to spend time going around the city before heading to my hotel, vs just going to the hotel and straight to sleep.
I found some $355 return now on AirNZ. The JQ flight arrives/departs about 2 hours earlier, although both only fly about 3 days per week, usually on different days.
If the JQ flight was from BNE on the same days I could do a price beat.
Skyscanner will show you Air NZ is not the cheapest flight to NZ discount or not.
This is probably why discounts are not showing. The discount is off return flights to NZ.

I might be wrong but the code does nothing. There is no improvement on price for me than if I just booked it regularly how I go.

Another Air NZ gimmick promotion.. Just use Jetstar - I have done Jetstar on $186, $212 and $245 return. Flying out midnight though..

While it wasn't cheaper than Jetstar, it came very close and with better flight times.
