    maybe a silly question but if going to Europe why not just buy a Sim over there? Doesnt the data transfer between EU members?

      Yes, you can but it won't be cheaper. You may need to search around to find the shop. You may also be in a rush or arrive in odd hours. By experience we prefer to prepare everything so it's peace of mind when we land. Just insert the SIM and it works right away with no hassles.       Sydney usually takes 2-3 days. Aust Post may sometimes take longer for unknown reason. When do you plan to travel?
