    FTW, its a password/info/card manager/form filler outter-er

    An expensive one too

    • It's got a few more features than LastPass but not so many to justify the price

    • For the win?

        For me, Bitwarden.

Ahh shit why didn't I think of that. I could just use my brain to remember all 241 unique passwords I have, each a minimum of 12 characters long with alphanumeric characters in both upper and lower case as well as symbols.

      Piss right off mate.

And i have to change every other month because of a security beach, but you can't use any character you've used previously in any password you've in the past 12 lives.

      • -8

Why? I know all mine. All unique. All alpha numeric with caps and symbols.

        • +1

Well shit mate, MENSA is taking applications. Better go apply right now.

  • i've trialed this a few times but couldn't really find any benefits over lastpass and bitwarden. for those using it - what do you like most about it vs the others?

Dashlane's integration seems better than LastPass' for me. LastPass on Android had issues with autofill, but no such issues with Dashlane. The browser add-on also works better and is more intuitive to use.

Still, hard to justify the price increase. Might try Bitwarden when it's time for renewal.

As a current user of Dashlane (since 2015) I previously bought a 5 year subscription (way back then) when they offered it around 99 USD.
Having said that I preferred the integration and overall UI compared to Lastpass.

The common argument when it comes to choosing a password manager is:

      Cost
      Sync between devices
      Brand Recognition
      Propitiatory Software vs Open Source
Functionality / Easy of Use / UI Design
Other Features (eg. VPN availability / Document Storage of important information)

I paid the subscription because of the following reasons and while they will differ from person to person.
Do a trial run with a number of password managers and if you like the use, integration, flow and features choose that password manager (even if it cost you).

If you can live without certain features and swear by not having to pay a single cent then feel free to use a wide variety of FREE and even OPEN SOURCE password managers.

I can only offer what I like about Dashlane from my perspective:
      1) While Lastpass is free, I didn't like the UI interface and how it does the auto-fill when compared to Dashlane
      2) I preferred the Dashlane UI over Lastpass because it was cleaner and suited my needs better
      3) The premium version of Dashlane currently offers free VPN (no limit) this was only added about 2 years ago
      4) The Android App version of Dashlane is really well done and auto-fill and authentication of passwords (using fingerprint) just works. You can of course choose PIN or even master password should you not want to use fingerprint
      5) Good Password Generator and also Password History per entry
      6) You are paying for the premium customer support which they respond quite quickly should you have any queries or issues
      7) They are constantly adding new features and listening to customers relating to UI changes or requested additions across mobile and desktop apps

I've use their online support a number of times (subscribers can email [email protected]) and get an email response within 12 hours. They operate mainly in the USA timezone.

The cost part has gone up in recent years mainly due to them adding the VPN service and expanding the document storage to unlimited. The VPN is standard and is not an option you can 'drop'.

I am undecided as to whether I will renew later this year once my subscription is up. But I did buy another password manager which has a lifetime subscription and is sort of similar to Dashlane with the layout but no where near as polished in a number of areas.

If you do use the Free version of Dashlane be aware of the following -

You are capped with how many password entries you can store
The passwords are only stored where the program is installed - there is no sync to other devices (ie. tablets/phones)
As with all password managers, if you lose the master password they CAN NOT HELP you recover your master password nor do they have access to your saved passwords
Make sure you do a password export prior to updating the mobile apps (since you don't get cloud sync) as the local password database might get wiped due to the update process.

      • I agree on the above.
I like its UI, very simple to use.
I've used Dashlane for years & still am using it.

Dashlane have alerted me a few times on security breaches, like when my Nexus game site I use got hacked.
It's not perfect thou, for example, if a site uses a user name only instead of a email address, it wont fill it in automatically, like this site.

I was a beta tester prior to version 2, as a result I get unlimited passwords & sync across multiple devices for free for life.
This was so many years ago (10+), I started using it for a while, without knowing about the beta tester promo, then stopped using it and went with Password Depot 5-6 for a few more years, I liked its user interface & never had a issue, it (PD6) was stored local only.

Then I wanted to go with a online based password manger instead, so I looked around & came across Dashlane again, & noticed that I had been a beta tester & that I got the 2 main features for free.

Sadly I forgot my master password that I used with PD6, cant access 2 drives now.

I've been using Bitwarden which is free for over a year
    http://bitwarden.com

The apps and extensions make it very streamlined when passwords are particularly sophisticated using the generator

    • Am using Bitwarden on all my devices too.

Paid $US10 for the year just because the product is so good, didn't need any of the premium version's features (eg self host)

      • self host isn't a premium option…
