2400

Just received an email from Derrimut saying that they donating $16K towards those impacted by the fires and giving away free 12 month memberships for any member or volunteer of the CFA or SA CFS.

Attached screen shot as I can't locate this on their website.

Quote from Facebook page:
"Any Member or Volunteer of CFA (Country Fire Authority) or the SA Country Fire Service will receive a #FREE 12 Month Gym Membership to use and train at any of our facilities! It is people like yourselves who are the heroes in these tragic circumstances.
Simply present your badge or ID Number to claim your free membership at any of our locations across Victoria & South Australia."

Mod: Deal title is tagged [BF] which is a tag for all deals related to Bushfire Victims/Volunteers etc. You may choose to deprioritise this tag by using the new front page. Please click 'new' on the OzBargain home page, then 'personalise', then add bf in 'add a title tag', drag the slider to less, then save preference. You may also choose to add other tags to see more/less of those deals (eg your state, other states) or see more/less from particular stores.

For those affected or involved, see the Bushfire Relief event page. You can also use the new front page to prioritise the [BF] tag.

    • risking your life for a free gym membership?

      • -2

there is risk in everything. dont get ants in your pants for someone suggesting the rewards of being a fire fighting volunteer and contributing and the perks that are coming with it might be worth joining them jesus. just looking for an excuse to get your panties in a bunch.

    • +2

People have died voluntarily fighting fires for the community, and then there are people like you.

        • +4

oh what a horrible person i am suggesting it might be worthwhile becoming a volunteer.

Indeed, you are. You want to become a volunteer FOR scoring a free gym membership. How pathetic.

      • -4

the difference between me and you is i would look at the positives and consider joining but you would sit on the sidelines casting aspersions so who is the bad person?

        • sirlothie, CocaKoala. Let's end this here.

    • You surprised? This place is full of the self righteous and perpetually offended. Heck I just described the internet.

    • -1

People get upset at you because you look at the reward for volunteering.

I know for a fact most of my RFS mates who volunteered because they want to give their effort for absolutely nothing in return.

      • +3

Ok fine I won't volunteer I'll just let you burn. Why put my life on the line for nothing for a pack of sooks like you.

      • +1

God forbid someone who puts their hand up gets rewarded. You must sacrifice for us, for free. While we sit at home and eat donuts and act better than everyone else on the internet. Pfft.

    • Almost worth volunteering …

out of curiosity, what else would you want to tip the balance? In the end, actions count, not intentions.

      • +2

I've already looked into it, volunteering is not even free. There are costs involved as well so if it going to take not only my time, blood, sweat and tears but also cost me money well it's a large contribution isn't it, for people who are largely ungrateful as evidenced here. With all this money coming in in donations you would think they deserve to at least not be out of pocket as well. Scomo is never out of pocket. So stuff like this would tip the balance in your favour otherwise it's a large sacrifice and risk to make.

Before anyone negs me get off your arse and go volunteer yourself.

  • Great for volunteers if they honour it.

This is an absolutely amazing thing the gym was doing and if there was one near me I'd probably switch over because these guys have heart.

I mean, it costs them nothing extra to give them a 12 month membership if they weren't going to join anyway so it is advertising, marketing and PR but then again what isn't?

    • -1

would you feel salty knowing that your gym took on a whole heap of free subscribers thus reducing your utility if you are a full fee paying member (overcrowding/excess wear on equipment/unprofitability/etc..)?

      • My utility, from a purely economic view would be that.
        But these aren't just freeloaders.
These are volunteers for the fire service - risking their lives, away from their families and for what? To save the lives and homes of many, animals included. They don't do this for the benefits, they do this out of the goodness of their heart.
It's nice to see a company giving them a free 12 month gym membership.

To call it unprofitable is to assume that no paying members would join from this. Yes, it's probably a lot more crowded now but that's not just due to volunteers.

I didnt get it, the people, the businesses, that actually donating, and helping out anyway they can, and those pigs at Canberra doing what? Sco mo visited one town and a couple of minutes about it and thats pretty much it. At least pretend to pickup a fire hose and pretry to put out some fire shouldnt he?

Good luck trying to cancel after the 12 months :P

Deerimuts is also an amazing gym. I can't think of a gym in the whole country that has as many squat racks as their Caroline Springs gym.

    • +1

Deerimuts; on the border of Deer park and Derrimut. I think that holds true considering Foleys rd(current location of the original gym) splits the two suburbs.

  • So they can transform their body for 2021 fire fighters calendar?😉

  • +1

Pretty sure they also have a $365 for 12 months deal running until the end of Jan which is a great deal for everyone else.

  • Can someone add this to the Disaster Relief Wiki page please.
