    Matching Big W

    There's also a Festivus edition for $65 if you want a pole…

    • +8

Big W also currently have 20% off, making it $36.

    • +6

Actually cheaper on BigW as its offering 20% off on advertised price bringing the price down to $36 ($3.90 additional towards delivery)

    • No stock in Qld for the Festivus edition :(

  • +2

If that's the case, Mr. Lippman may have to have stern words with Mr. Bezos

  • Who wants 4:3 these days?

    • +3

Because the wide-screen editions crop the original frame loosing detail. It's a trade off

      • I agree with most shows, and I could absolutely be wrong here, but I thought Seinfeld was filmed in 16:9 but shown in 4:3? They did that with later seasons of Friends, Buffy, and some other stuff too. Angel season one for example is 4:3 on DVD because it's just the VHS copy but on disc, even though it aired in 16:9

        • +4

I doubt it; at the time of recording 16:9 wasnt even a format for the rich early adaopters.

There'd be no reason to have recorded like that; it was never intended for cinema broadcast.

It was however shot on 35mm film, so some trickery can take place.

          Watch here :)

      • You gain some picture in the 16:9 version, but lose some as well. However, the fact that it's in 1080p far outweighs any loss in picture.

        • In the 16:9 versions the tops of everyone's heads are always cut off. It's really annoying.

          • @dansblackcat: I re-watched the last 2-3 seasons in HD recently, and didn't notice any issues at all. It was far better than the previous SD version that I remember.

          • @dansblackcat: No. Some vertical cropping yes, but tops of heads no.

        • Indeed, thank God they had the foresight (money) to shoot this on film.

        • No, it dosen't. Not even close.

          • @bomberswarm2: Have you watched the HD version?

            • @AussieZed: Yep. You lose half the shot. Pointless.

              • @bomberswarm2: You gain some additional picture on either side, though.

                • @AussieZed: Yep, you gain about 5% on each side, while losing 20% off the top and bottom where things are actually happening. Gain pointless inches, destroy all the perspective, visual jokes, actual action for a few worthless frames. The "HD" version is dispised universally by fans for this pointless lazyness. Friends was properly remastered in HD without cropping, as have been other shows, but Seinfeld gets this clown cut.

                  • -2

@bomberswarm2: Yep, and you also gain 5 times the resolution (500%), meaning things that were a blur before are now crystal clear.

                    • @AussieZed: No neglible difference between 576p and 1080p, epscially when the 20% cut from the episodes is decreased in resolution 100%.

                      • @bomberswarm2: Do you have a HD TV? If so, it sounds like you have no need for one seeing as you can't tell the difference between SD and HD. Also, SD Seinfeld is 480i not 576p. It's a US show so it's not in PAL resolution.

                      • @bomberswarm2: Oh and by the way, when you watch Seinfeld in that 1950s-era standard resolution, keep in mind that the sound is sped up by 4% due to the conversion to PAL. So all voices sound higher in pitch than normal, as does the Seinfeld theme music. HD solves all this by running at the proper framerate.

    • My mirrorless "DSLR".

  • This or the iTunes version??

that's not a hard dilemma. Physical media all the way.

      • +1

4k remastered on Netflix I read.

Wondering if they will release a physical Blu-ray version too?

        • +1

This was shot in 4:3 so prepare for black bars or part of the image to be cut.

        • Blu Ray would be cool.

    • Digital because no one needs more plastic on the shelf.

      • I assume you have lots of books and rustic ornaments then to make up for it then…

        • I have a small collection of books and a very small collection of CDs and DVD/BluRays. Which has me thinking, I should probably just rip the videos and get rid of them.

          • @Mechz: you're a less is more kinda guy Some would say having more stuff is wholesome others would say it's a nuisance. At the end of the day as long as you have enough in your life to fill up your soul ey

  • Hi, I just picked up my Seinfeld set from big w. This is my 2nd set. The first set I got dated 2009 the discs have the Seinfeld character on them this set today dated 2011 is not like that the discs are all blue. However the box shows the discs with the characters on it like my 1st set.
Can any else confirm theirs contains blue discs?
    Thanks
