No offence to you but this is just plain advertising for your business

3 hour time limit and you only just listed it in here with 1 drive per person only?

    • +8

But Dick Smiths promo is only 1 hour (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51119). Limit of 1 per person prevents Broden-ing from happening?

      • -1

Dick Smith promo is online and its after hours so it gives everyone a fair go and it was announced this morning

This is within business hours, walk ins only and have to mention the ad

    • +6

I just grabbed one thanks netplus, how can you justify a neg on cheapest 2TB on staticice?

    • +7

I would argue that 'just plain advertising' is when people post links to their stock, irrespective of whether it is cheap, just to get themselves noticed. We see enough of that here.

Sure this is advertising, but its the kind where someone can go in and get something cheaper than anyone else is offering - which is good in my book, even if I cant get it myself.

  • +6

Allow online orders and you have a deal!

    • Same here. I'd take one but I'm in Melb. Who actually lives in Perth???

      • +3

        i am 8)

        • I do* FTFY….darn Perthians :)

        • Perth/WA misses out on a few deals, I'm glad we get an exclusive :)

    • Care for an $18 shipping? (Netplus std shipping rate)

    • +1

walk in cash and carry is the deal mate

  • +4

Wish there was a Netplus in Melbourne.

    • +1

      like fluidtek?

      • Logitechshop is fluidtek.
I dont have to say anything else :)

        • Well yeah but logitechshop ships and fluidtek doesnt. So fat lot of good that does.

  • Whats with the facebook link?? Doesnt seem relevant.

    • So you can then find their website and the store address?

      • +4

Why don't they just link to their actual website?

    • +4

Just wondering Oz, how does the link deserve a neg?

  • +5

Some of these neg votes seem a bit harsh to me, as the prices are quite good. Apart from the limited time aspect, I'm not sure I can see how this is all that different to any of the other locally-based deals that get posted on OzBargain in general.

    • +2

Agree that price is good. But setting such unreasonable criteria makes the deal bad.

If a bargain is to be posted, the seller needs to be prepared to deal with a sudden influx of sales. To set such criteria only leads me to believe the following:

      1) For advertising purposes only, no proper sales intended
      2) Limited stock for sale only hence such harsh criteria set

To me, they are as good as COTD at the moment

As this is a bargain website, bargains have to exist for a reasonable amount of time and availability to consumers to a certain extend. (This should be one of the criteria set for REPS)

If this was posted by any of us ozbargainers, I would never have negged it. But the fact that it is posted by a REP with such criteria is not acceptable as a good deal

FYI, I did not revoke my NEG vote. I supposed it was automatically revoked because of all the negs against me :)

      • +1

All deals are advertisements. There's only two stores in WA. You can't expect them to have enough stock for the whole country.

        • +1

Fair enough and I totally agree.

Not saying they need to be available to whole of Australia. Just need reasonable enough sales criteria.

Hence my reasoning that they are purely advertising

I wouldn't care less if they did this on the papers or gumtree.

      • +4

        Not really.

Accepting credit cards and needing to send things costs money.

To print shipping labels, protect the drive, package it etc takes a surprising amount of time (it is not a matter of seconds, plus the cost of shipping materials)

So a cash only, walk in only deal allows it to be the lowest possible price which is great for those who live in perth.

  • +15

    I'm in OZ and it's a bargain! therefore a + from me.
If we all started to neg deals we could not personally get the server would handle the load.

    Thanks Netplus!!

    • +8

exactly. it's like food deals for local resteraunts…. it may not suit interstate folks, but for locals its definitely a deal. i dont live near this shop, but im plus voting…. 2TB WD Green for $70 is a bargain no matter how you look at it.

      • +2

2TB WD Green for $70 is a bargain no matter how you look at it.

The next cheapest would be this http://dicksmith.com.au/offer/1hourdeal

$79 delivered and you get the an external case.

      • +1

I agree 100%! What UFO said!

  • +6

All restaurants aren't in Perth deserve neg vote from me. If people neg this because they aren't in Perth.

  • Shame this special isnt on the Samsung drives

    • cool story bro…save some face and retract the neg

I'm sure the managers at netplus over in wa don't get much sleep at night plundering ways to make people like you to think their dodgy and aren't a viable business

      • -3

lol the fb link itself warrants the neg. you can digest my musings however you want when I'm only pointing out how conditions like in deals are able to generate negative thoughts…

        • Considering netplus have posted previous Facebook deals, I'm
Inclined to believe it's an innocent oversight, so a neg for that is a bit of a stretch don't you think?

        • LOL, an innocent oversight when the REP has now extended the deal but not changed the link to be a direct one?

          Yeah right.

And please, why has my vote been revoked by a mod, but Ozpete's still stands? What's with that lol.

Whats with the facebook link?? Doesnt seem relevant.

        • i never said it was an oversight, but that is just my guess

  • +7

Just bought a 2TB as of 3.25 PM on my way home. Stock is aplenty. Definitely a POSITIVE from me.

  • good price for a slow HDD

  • +9

Due to demands that this sale was too short, we have extended this to INCLUDE 10am till 1pm tomorrow (19th Aug 2011)!

    • What's stock looking like at both stores? I'd hate to drive to Osborne Park and find out they're run out but Myaree has stock, then drive to Myaree and find out they've run out too :p

      • +2

Have you tried looking at the website. It shows stock levels.

        • That's neat.

    • great customer service… big plus vote!

      (now open in canberra!) :)

  • I live in Perth and have the day off tomorrow, bring it on! Limit of 1 in total is harsh though.

    • +3

      buy
      walk out
      walk in
      buy

    • last time austin got 1 per person sale, saw one guy just told the person "u want me to walk out and in again"?
then they sell him 2 without walk out and in

  • I wish i had the day off tomorrow:(

    • -1

You have personal leave and don't need to explain what it is for?

  • +1

I can't believe people are negging this! Ridiculous..
Great bargain, and now available for longer too.

    • -3

Well without my initial negs, do you reckon they would have extended the sale? :)

And I do not even live in Perth.

Since they have graciously extended their deal, I officially retract my neg.

Thank you for listening to our needs NetPlus

      • You think you alone extended the deal? Big head you have there.
They said they had stock left and extended, good on em.
Im still dumbfounded why you were neg'ing a deal from another state. Its a great price.

  • Great deal for the 1tb and 2tb drives. Real shame I don't live in Perth, they need a store in brisbane IMO. +ve from me

  • +2

    2 TB = $70 = $35/TB
    3 TB = $150 = $50/TB
true ozbargainer only buy 2TB only

  • +1

    I feel it's a bargain. I live in NSW but it's a bargain for WAers :)

  • +2

    Extended???

I broke all land speed records on my bicycle to get there yesterday by COB.

    Bah!

  • Not sure where I sit with this one, on a price only basis it is good but how many restrictions does it take for a good priced item to loose its bargain status.

If a deal is posted at 11.45AM from a computer store in Burke, stating that they are selling 2TB drive for $5ea from 12.00PM to 12.10PM, is that still a bargain or advertising? Extreme example but just throwing it out there ………

    • I find netplus do this strategy a fair bit with their ozbargains. I tend to be busy at work in the arvos and always miss their bargains when they pop up here.

I am the target market (cashed up PC nerd) so this current advertising strategy isn't that efficient when it comes to extracting money from me. Also no facebooking during work so that doesn't work.

    • For me, it would be in the same vein as the $2 Kmart ladder posted a few months back. It was limited in availability (which limited the number of people who could actually take advantage of it) but there's no denying that it was a bargain.

In my opinion, just because a deal isn't available to someone personally doesn't necessarily mean that the deal itself is a bad one.

  • Are these green drives okay to use as the main hdd in a pc or do I need the blue one instead?

    • +1

I think they will be fine.

They spin slower which allows them to use less power (laptop drives spin at the same speed as green drives)

If you look at the green drive here http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/green-dri…
      Sustained data transfer rate 144Mb/s

And their high performance drive here http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/barracuda…
      Sustained data transfer rate 149Mb/s

Both drives are close to the same sustained data transfer rate

The Average latency, Random read seek time and Random write seek time are all lower on the faster drive but only by a small amount.

So the green drive might be a little slower to find random files.

  • I bought 3 WD15EAR from them a few months back, two of them were DOA, then found out the one working was supported by my NAS. Got them exchanged to the Seagate which works great.
Price is good, service is good, but I will skip the WD Green if possible - or I may be just a very unlucky person…

    • unlucky.

i have 2x WD Greens and they are going great. Lower power, quiet, and functioning nice and cool in my HTPC/Media Server running 24/7.

3yrs warranty folks, cant go wrong.
      http://support.wdc.com/warranty/policy.asp?custtype=end&lang…

      • Yes, but acording to the Netplus Terms & Conditions they will only help you for the first year, then you have to send back to the manufacturer yourself (presumably paying for the shipping?):

"Standard warranty on components and accessories is 1 (one) year, not including labour. Any additional manufacturer warranty must be claimed directly with the manufacturer."

        • +1

That is the same with most places
