Are prices already discounted on the website? First few cameras I looked at didn't seem cheap at all

    • -1

Yes, prices are already discounted. No codes required.
Which models were you looking at?

      • +1

        Panasonic G9, Nikon D750, X-T3, E-M1 II

        • -1

          Australian Stock?
Just checking the G9 Body only with our immediate Australian competitors and we're definitely cheaper.

      • +2

Could you do a better deal on Sony a7 iii?

        • The listed price is the best price.

  • ^^ Was just going to ask the same question

  • +4

Likewise for lenses - one i've been looking at is still the same price as other retail stores

    • Which lenses were you interested in?

      • Nikon 200-500

        • Australian stock? We're at least $200 cheaper than our immediate Australian competitors

          • @end user: Camera pro is currently selling for $1507 - had it on sale a couple of weeks ago for $1338

            • @GeorgiaTheCat: $1388 is a great price. I don't think we can beat that.
But we're still cheaper than them currently at $1503, and we have stock.

  • +3

yep discount must be off RRP because i dont see anything thats cheaper lens wise

  • +2

Original prices not listed and non competitive "sale" prices. Pass.

I don't want to be that guy, but are there any bargains?
I recently bought a Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM ART for Canon mount from DigiDirect as part of their "19% off" sale.

    I paid $1700.29.
Your website advertises the same lens for $1831
    https://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/sigma-14mm-fa18-dg…

If this is the case for everything else, sorry there's no bargain here.

    • I'm going to upvote your deal, because whilst the DD deal was cheaper, that's a rare occasion, and yes the above lens is cheaper than other places so as of right now it's a good deal.

For the patient, you can wait for better deals, otherwise this one is fairly okay for now (downside is a high starting price)

      • You would hope that their starting price was somewhere near DD's, but clearly it isn't.

  • Why is this not 20% off? It's not a pre-order!

Agree with a bunch of comments here. I had to double check if I had to put in a code to get the new reduced price. Sadly no. Given all the prices from the Boxing day sales, I will happily wait for a better deal.

  • +3

There doesn't seem to be any genuine deals/bargains. I also dislike the OP's comments that they are cheaper than everyone else when clearly they are not.

    • I never said everyone else

  • nice price on the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens at $702
    https://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/sony-fe-85mm-fa18-…

    next closest is $744

Almost as good as the popular deal 2 years ago when it was $679 with stock issues at JB Hifi.

    • This lens was $688 at DigiDirect at their end of December 2019 sales.

      • oh nice,

lowest price at the moment though if anyone needed it now.

  • +1

Same with the Gopro Hero 8 Bundle. $632. $555 at Camera's Direct and even cheaper with that ebay plus videopro deal

  • +1

Waiting for the closing down sale

  • No deals!!!

  • +1

Suspicious that the mavic drones are no longer available.

    • We stopped ranging drones before Christmas. Any drones that are still listed on the site are just remaining stock.

  • Can you match previous ebay+camera house sales for A7 III? $1,900?

    • The listed price on the website is our best price.

    • +1 on this, would snap it up for sure at that rate!

  • +3

The 20% off is clearly from the dubious RRP so the 'sale price' is really only a couple $$ cheaper than other stores' normal price.

    i.e. DCW's Canon EOS RP - $1519 vs Digidirect's normal price $1588. Digidirect had a sale only 1.5 weeks ago for $1047

Even a quick ozbargain search showed 3 pages of Canon EOS RP deals that was lower than this.

  • Samyang 45mm f1.8 for 535$? Isn’t that close to normal rrp. DD rrp is 549$.

  • Been chasing Sony 24-105 fe f4 for a while. But it’s been easily sub 1549 quite a few times now at camera house and digidirect and camerapro

  • I’m looking at the canon eos r for example. The listed price on the website is $26xx.
I wouldn’t call it a deal to be honest. JB Hi-Fi has done twice with the price $19xx. Other retailers have done $20xx. $21xx.
DCW is one of the oldest camera retailers in Sydney. I honestly wish you guys have done better on price. I know, the market is really competitive, but you can’t just sit there and do nothing I guess? Of course you can if you don’t want it to be good.

I see quite a few Negs here, but there are some good deals, Cheapest ive seen for the Sony 100-400 gm lens, which i just purchased from Digi direct a week ago for more.

    • Thank you for saying this. The frustrating thing is that the market is extremely competitive on some items like GoPros, Sony A7III etc. and these are always the ones that people will compare with. I'm not claiming this deal is the cheapest price on every single item we've ever sold, but 20% off across the 1000's of items (especially accessories) that very rarely go on sale is a pretty big deal from the business's perspective. Also, we're the cheapest price currently on many items, but it seems that all people care about is that a few of the big ticket items that aren't the cheapest price ever is enough to neg a deal.

  • Sorry, had to revoke my plus vote. I thought it was 20% off the listed prices. Even then the discounts wouldn't have been amazing but (at least for the lenses I'm looking for) there isn't anything worth buying.

  • -1

I just got Officeworks to price beat the $439 that DCW had for a GoPro HERO 8 Black, so I ended up getting it for $417.

With all the Negs here I'm now concerned that I didn't get a good deal. My gut feel is that it was a good deal so I'll keep hold of it and have a wee think about whether to hold on to it or take it back for a refund.

Thanks to the OP for posting. Your Northcote store in Melbourne is a bit too far for me to get to, otherwise I would have probably bought from there direct.

    • Recent popular deal for the Hero8 was $436 from Amazon so I think you did ok at $417

  • +1

Decent price for anyone looking for a wide angle RF prime: https://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/laowa-15mm-fa2-zer… @ $1100. Cheapest I found it on boxing day sales was $1173.

  • Bought the Sony 10-18mm E Mount lens for $814 https://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/sony-10-18mm-fa4-o…

Very good price, usually it's about $870-ish on sale on Ryda/No Frills EBay

  • Looks like the shopping cart isn't working at the moment? Just tried across 4 different browsers, and when you view the cart, the only option it gives you is to add some suggested items to the cart. Anyone had success ordering today?

  • Been a photographer for 20+ years, this mob are always my last resort. Pricing wise they are generally behind DigiDirect and having a quick skim through their 20% off claim, very clever, they revert most, if not all their lenses back to RRP (which nobody pays) and take 20% off that.

The only thing saving local stores is the 'warranty' thing they get to boast about, stores like this one keep throwing the good old 'Australian Stock' and charge a ridiculous premium for it. A day will come when the market catches up to groups like this and phases them out.

    • Having worked there for a significant amount of time, I can unequivocally state that there was no 'price jacking' for this 20% off promotion.
We were on sale at the end of December through to early Jan. This was our Boxing Day/ Summer sale campaign which finished on the 6th of Jan. After the end of that promo campaign, the smart people in the company did the math and realised we were still holding more stock that was brought in for Christmas than we wanted.
This 20% off everything sale was to clear that stock. At 9am today (14th Jan), prices will revert back to their pre 20% sale rate. Some prices will be cheaper than our competitors, some won't. To claim that 'most if not all our lenses will revert back to RRP' is ridiculous, because you are right, at RRP no one in their right mind would buy them. Unless you shop at Harvey Norman. Pricing is dependent on so many factors including exchange rates, stock levels and monthly/quarterly sales targets with suppliers.
DCW is a Australian company that employs Australians and pays taxes to support other Australians and the Australian economy. They also support Australian photographers such as yourself and play an active role in the photographic community. Their website is most accurate and comprehensive by a long margin compared to their other Australian counterparts and serves customers that live in a remote or rural area and can't get to a store. Their range is also the most comprehensive of all their competitors with over 8000 active products. They have been business for 19 years, not because they are always the cheapest, but because they add value to the Australian retail landscape. They have a loyal and appreciative customer base who like the fact that they can provide them with sound advice, suited to their specific needs and goals. They love that they can pick up the phone and speak to a real human in Australia, 7 days a week if something goes wrong and they need to organise a warranty claim.
To wish for them to be 'phased out' like they are some fly-by-night dinosaur of a company because they are sometimes more expensive for certain items shows you know nothing about the importance of retail to the Australian economy. /rant
