NETGEAR ORBI AC2200 RBK20 Home Tri-Band Wireless WiFi Modem Router & Satellite Extender System, White, RBK20-100AUS

Pack includes the router and one satellite.

Cheap compared to other shops such as JB HiFi ($369), Centrecom ($299).

It was $256.47 when I purchased it, not sure why it’s gone up a few dollars when I go back to the link.

$229 on TGG commercial website if you have access to it. Also $313 for 3 pack.

Do you know what TGG Commercial price is for the RBK50? Tossing up between getting an RBK20 or 50.

$400. But they’ve been on sale here before for $299 (Wireless1).
I’d wait for another deal like that.

I just set this up for a mate in a 4 storey building to replace his existing PowerLine + 2 x Access Point setup. He had blacks spots in the coverage that needed fixing and also tossed up between the RBK20 and 50.

In the end, we settled on a 3 pack RBK20 and it turned out to be the right decision. We tried different topologies (daisy chain, hub and spoke) and various placement positions. The only config that solved the problem was a hub and spoke layout with one of the satellites tethered using his existing PowerLine and the other wireless (going daisy chain would have left one of the satellites with a degraded connection though it was have been ok still).

It was fairly straightforward to setup and there were enough knobs to tweak to make it suit his needs. An RBK50 probably wouldn’t have worked as well and he would have ended up with black spots again. Overall, very satisfied with the outcome and it was a noticeable improvement.

        • I have a rbr50 and recently got a rbs30 but it won't go into a hub and spoke configuration. Keeps daisy chaining to the rbs50. I've turned off daisy chain, I've even had the rbs30 in same room as the router and still goes into daisy chain. Any ideas on how to get the rbs30 to connect to the router and not the rbs50 satellite?

          • @BellaWii: Yeah, I noticed that too. Turning off daisy chaining doesn't prevent it from configuring itself that way for whatever reason. It my case, I had to power on the wireless satellite before the wired one otherwise it would pick up the signal from the latter and daisy chain onto that - there must be some way to force it somehow but I haven't had time to look into it yet.

            • @OSienna: I'll give that a try, turn off both satellites then turn on the rbs30 first then the rbs50.

        • Curiosity, why wouldn’t the RBK50 have done the job? I though it was the AC3000 version so essentially the same product but better. Or are you mentioning the twin pack RBK50 vs the RBK23 (the triple pack RBK20)?

          • +1

@PhoenixAUS: I had my doubts as to whether the RBK50 would cover 4 floors with concrete between each them. They only come in two packs and the hub and satellites aren't interchangeable. There's no way to buy additional satellites so we'd have to double up and end up with a left over hub. A triple pack RBK23 was the safest route if coverage was our priority (vs speed).

@PhoenixAUS: The router is in the garage and I think it's the garage tin roof that weakens the signal upstairs. The rbs50 at the rear of the house has a strong connection to the router.

$400 for RBK50 on TGG commercial. EDIT: some one already reported it. So repeat information.

    • Would anyone with a TGG commercial account in Victoria (Melb/western suburbs) be kind enough to buy the 3 pack for me?

  • Thanks for both the replies. Bit annoying the RBK50 won’t connect to other satellites. I did read on the Netgear site though that you can connect RBK20 satellites to the RBK50 but they would all run at AC2200 which defeats the purpose.

I’m about to install this in my garage as well with a tin roof.. fingers crossed. However I will have it hooked up via an Ethernet backhaul so should be ok.

  • BK50 please! Though might wait for wifi 6 version, already out in US shouldn't be long here.
