.. Why was this 4k? Am I missing some random feature?

Dell mark the RRP of their corporate models at ridiculous prices, I don't know why. Maybe they think it makes it look like a great deal when your sales rep offers you a 50%+ discount on them from RRP?

If you really want to laugh then checkout the RRP on these:

That price is to push enterprise sales.

IT dept as a cost centre can get their kudos by cutting down cost. CIOs then can say that they work hard to get better contracts from Dell and saving the company equipment budget.

The fact is that no enterprise customers pay full price for Dell enterprise stuff.

      • that's right. I have never seen a full price paid for a Latitude or Optiplex etcetera

often top tier latitudes can be picked up from eBay with warranties and all, around 1k. some presales decided he needs a Mac instead

    67% off and it's still expensive…

I'd rather pay less than half the price for something slightly slower

The HP was even less than that a few days ago

I think this one is targeted at enterprise users like the rest of the Latitude line.

      • +1

Correct, this will have better build quality and certainly better support than the HP.

A more appropriate comparison device would be the Elitebook 830 G6 (which while closer still has garbage support), or as another point of appropriate comparison, the Lenovo Thinkpad X390.

        • i wonder how many businesses supply their office with ozbargain deals :P i wonder how many ozbargainers work for equipment procurement and requisitions that are saving their company, literally, dozens of dollars! dozens i say!

You guys are comparing Apples and Oranges!

Gaming laptops and Business laptops are 2 different things.

        • i agree, business laptops are highly reliable, durable and offer long term support compared to shonky consumer laptops

          • @[Deactivated]:

            offer long term support

Yep! I still can punched in 10+ year old service tag on Dell site and get drivers for it.

I had motherboard issue 3 months after purchase. Dell shipped me the parts the next day and arrange their tech to swap out the motherboard.

business laptops are highly reliable, durable

            I doubt it.

            • @Indomietable: oh really i never knew that

      • +2

with how about a 13" laptop? 15.6" laptops are often fat n heavy. i use this (dell 7390) laptop for work and it's great. wouldn't spend $1500 for it let alone the $4k+ that work paid! the dock is another hundred or two. businesses pay more for the support.. but at that price and the lifecycle of tech these days…

  • +1

I don't see why this spec worth this much money.

    • support and cause they are businesses, they must be ripped off

  • +1

Who are these clowns upvoting this terrible deal!

  • Fail deal

  • My experience with dell is that they are not reliable. I bought two latitudes and both have issues within a year or slightly after a year. Given this has 3 years warranty then at least you have some cover but just have to go through issue of dell repairing it if you encounter problems. My experience with their warranty service was good but quality of their product to me is bad.

    • i disagree, bad quality for my acer laptop, the hinge broke cause of plastic base and not sure what to do

      • I never said anything about Acer laptop so no idea what you are disagreeing on. This is just my experience with dell and I purposely bought the latitude models as well as they were business grade and supposed to be more reliable. The issues I had were the components they used as the parts are not reliable. Most likely either motherboard, memory or hard disks. When they fixed one of mine they replaced almost everything in there. Can’t fault their warranty service but I don’t trust their parts.

  • no deal

  • +1

seriously check out Dell outlet. refurbished latitudes look and feel like new, and carry 3 year on site warranty

and you can pick up much better deals when they run 10-20% off deals in outlet

  • +1

This was on OzBargain in May 2019, same spec for $900 I think. Might have been $800. And has a massive battery. That was a ripper deal.

    • on the other hand this is a rip

  • Terrible "deal"
