104

The iPhone 3Gs (8Gb) $0 upfront on a $29 per month plan (24 months) at Optus. Looks like the offer is only valid until the end of August. Still a very good phone!

can you get iphone 5 for $29?
I don't think so - so comment irrelevant

  • Is this iPhone 3Gs 8Gb still popular?

Hey, the SS Galaxy S1 is at least on par with the iPhone 4 and same price, 29 bucks per month, less 2 months if you get it online.

I don't care. I just want it. Sign me up for crap. LoL

      Agreed. Galaxy S > Iphone 3gs

Good deal imo. Obviously the iPhone 5 is just around the corner, but this deal suits alot of people that either don't require anything more powerful or for parents to get their kids.

    • I think these days a lot of kids are so spoiled that they probably already don't want iPhone 3GS but the latest….

well I still have 3G and its still a great phone, its just a little slow sometimes. theres really not a big difference between each model, only very slight.

        • +2

Agreed. Especially when you don't use the full function of the phone..

However, it might be just me, but ever since the first time i saw iPhone 4's screen, I feel so sad looking at my 3GS….it just soooooooooooooooo different…

I know i shouldn't mind all these super detail pixel screen, but it just made a DRASTIC differences….

I was using a 3G and its a terribly slow phone. ios4 bogged the phone down, great move to make people want to upgrade. Now have a Nexus S, its an order of magnitude more useful than a crappy iphone

  • hmm well im still on an optus $29 plan with my iphone 3g!! phone is getting far too slow though.

still, this plan is going to cost you $696. I would rather buy an iPhone 4 outright for about $800 and stick it onto a $15-$20 live connected deal.

Wouldn't surprise me if we saw an iphone 4 free on a $29 plan soon, considering 5 is out in a month, which I am waiting for.

    • talking about prices, current prices of the iphone 4 are much higher than at launch, anybody know if iphones generally are cheaper at launch with specials etc., or was it a one off thing with the iphone 4?

      404 you douche!

    • yeh, its all rumours. we'll just have to wait and cross our fingers to see what Apple does. perhaps it is Apple itself that is releasing all these rumours, to ensure that nobody knows of its exact plans.

having said that, a March release is too far back imo, considering the competition is pretty level in terms of specs, and the Android platform seems to be gaining a lot of traction. by March Apple could be playing catchup rather than leading the market. too much uncertainty and secrecy with apple :(

I got an iPhone 3GS 16GB from Virgin (Optus GSM) for $35/month with $150 calls and 300MB when the iPhone 4 was new about a year back.

Around the same time every carrier was going off with similar deals.

When the iPhone 5 comes along I'm expecting iPhone 4 deals around this price.

  • when the iphone 4 came out Telstra offered me a 32gb iphone 4 for free if i joined a $39 plan with them (probably because we have homephone, internet, foxtel all through telstra). wasnt tempted though because i only want a $20 plan now. i dont like my $29 optus plan anymore.

for my next phone i will buy it outright and put it on live connected, unless the big boys come out with some really good deals.

The Optus $29 Cap is a joke.
One of the worst value caps in Australia.

If you somehow need to be with Optus, I would look at their $30 Turbo Cap Plus on Prepaid:
    http://personal.optus.com.au/web/ocaportal.portal?_nfpb=true…

You get over 50% more call value, 150% more data, and UNLIMITED texts for $1 more.

Would be better to source your own iPhone 3GS 8gb and pay the extra.

Yuck, this phone is so old and the Optus $29 cap sucks.

    • Lots of people don't have an iPhone at all yet - many can't afford one. This deal is pretty good for some people. I still have the 3Gs and it's a really good phone. Don't be a bratty Apple whore.

      • Each to his own. Even if you liked Apple, it's an old phone and if you get it on a 24 month plan. You'll mostly likely crave a new phone and new features, by the time your done.

It's not being a bratty Apple whore, it just amazing how this plan wasn't out earlier (possibly by a few months) when the market was different.

    • I agree, underpowered for the latest apps. 24mth contract with an outdated phone.
And the Optus $29/mth plan is horribly overpriced.

Sorry but the 3gs at this price is just not a deal. Galaxy S $29/month just makes so much more sense.
