Bonus 20,000 Telstra Plus Points for New Month-to-Month Plan (on Top of Existing Bonus Points, E.g. Medium Plan - 60,000 Bonus)

771

Hi all. Just changed my 24 month Telstra contract to a BYO phone; month to month contract and saw they are offering 20,000 bonus Telstra Plus bonus points on top of the existing bonus points.

E.g. Medium ($60) plan offers 40,000 Telstra Plus points, plus an additional 20,000 bonus points for a total of 60,000. Which could get you 8 google nest minis (with current discount) or a pair of Galaxy Buds if they were in stock.

Note: This is a no lock in contract, so you are not locked in for more than one month.

More information/terms and conditions in the following links:

Mod Note: Offer extended to 30th March 2020

        • I'm told now to wait till 1st March for it to be resolved.

          Disgusting.

        • Any chance you could send me the scree shot - I have the chat transcript but they're saying no such offer!!

          • @digitalane: This is the screenshot I took when I placed my order through chat. I also sent them a transcript of my chat confirming the plan and points. https://ibb.co/yqzHQb5

  • Still waiting for mine. Apparently they are still reviewing it.

  • Had to escalate my missing points 2 weeks ago, finally got a call where the case manager initially denied I was eligible for the 60,000 points, and instead offered 20,000. I countered with screenshots of their website and my confirmation email showing the 60,000 points. After a painful hold period, he has honoured the 60,000 points.

It should absolutely not be this painful to have a promotion honoured. I will be cancelling once I've got the points on my account. Never again.

  • Just got off the phone with a Telstra guy who called me.
They were like "you only get 20k points, not 60k as no device plan was added"
I emailled them the confirmation email which said I get 60k, and then he was like "ok cool I'll give you 60k points".
Not too bad, hope they actually show up.

Actually, they are already there. Sweet.

    • Still waiting for my call back.

Had to fix a seperate issue with incorrect NBN charges, had the lady trying to sell me data plans for no reason on my mobile services….. Even though they are all like 1gb usage or under of 60-100gb ffs.

Telstra has really gotten bad in recent years.

It’s disgusting the hoops they are making people jump through to simply get what they advertised online!! We literally signed up under the basis of getting these points, but then we now have had to prove that there was any such offer!?

      • I even ended one of my services much earlier and smother 2 months of device payments…. But nope.

  • Got off the phone with Telstra rep not long after @theguyrules posted. My process for some reason was much more simpler and straightforward. He confirmed that I was eligible for the points and repeated the offer: 1. Adding a $60 SIM only plan was 40K points and 2. Signing up online was an additional 20K points. He didn't mention anything about needing a device added - potentially because I ported over from Vodafone and they treat new customers nicer? I also signed up with an online chat rep (who processed everything on their end) in case anyone did the same as me. Didn't require showing any emails/transcripts/screenshots and my contract didn't mention the bonus points, only the $30 discount.

Hope this information helps someone if Telstra calls and pushes back!

    • Yeah they definitely treated you nicer as a new customer

  • Has anyone gotten their points without following up with support?

The signup email I received mentions points should arrive in 30 business days, it's been less that 30 business days for anyone that signed up on the day the deal was posted

I assume the above is just a worse case rather than typical processing time

    • I think it's planned to delay port outs so they can get a couple of bills in. That then offsets the cost of giving out the points.

Makes sense. No such thing as a free lunch.

      • I fully expected them to delay for that reason.

    • Mine said 14 business days

  • I signed up for the Telstra M plan month-to-month in mid-Jan with the 60,000 promotions. After a few escalations since start of Feb, I lodged a complaint. The Case manager called me and said that she spoken to Telstra Plus team and that they only give me 20k points as I didn't buy any device. I told them that the promotion at the time was that it is for month-to-month SIM only. Then the case manager told me that they will talk to the Telstra Plus team, 30 minutes later she called and said that because I sign up via Chat and technically not buying via online, they can only give me 40k points. I said NO, I told her that I got the transcript of the chat with the Telstra reps when I purchase the plan and he confirmed that it is 60k points. The Case manager requested for a copy of the transcript so she can talk to the Telstra Plus team. Just sent that to her, awaiting for a call back from her either later today or tomorrow.

Wow the audacity lol. It's like they're trying to bargain with you and hope you take one of the lower offers

    • That is disgusting. They are literally doing anything they can to not honour something that they advertised! They have a transcript of the chat as well, so even asking you for it is a joke. It’s purely because if you didn’t have it they would say that no such thing was said.

    • I’m dealing with this on 2 fronts. I lodged a complaint with Telstra and got an SR number from them. I also lodge a complaint with the TIO as originally Telstra advised that the issue would be resolved by 7/02/2020, and when that came and passed they advised me that it’ll be 14 days after that. That came and goes and when I lodged a complaint with Telstra, they said that it’ll take 5-7 business day. I’m not happy with them constantly giving me a different date. So let’s see how this pans out.

Just an update on this one. At a bit before 10AM this morning, I saw that they have added the full 60k points to my Telstra Plus account. The Case manager called and left a message on my voicemail about 10 minutes later.

I guess after they saw the chat history, they decided to honour it. Or maybe they saw the complaint I lodge with the TIO. Either case, this is a painful experience.

      • I didn’t sign up until beginning of Feb so it’s too soon for me to be hassling them yet (hasn’t been 30 business days) but pretty sure I’ll be facing a battle. I never confirmed anything with them via chat but I do have screen shots of the offer and also the email from Telstra which mentions the points. Will see how I go in a few weeks.

        • Not too early. Start it now.

          • @theguyrules: My email said 30 business days though, it’s only been 16 business days.

        • Yeah just keep everything, email as well if you have it.

        • Yeah I signed up Jan 25th, waited 30 days which was up yesterday, no points so jumped on chat.
They tried serving me up the 'it was only with devices' , I returned with 'I signed up in January when it was sim only plans and I have my order email stating 60k bonus'
They requested the email, which I promptly sent, they looked at it and agreed that I was eligible for the points and so it will be credited.
Today, points credited and a call from a supervisor to let me know and thanking me for my patience.

A pretty smooth process considering what others have been through.

So my advice, wait the 30 days that it states, make sure you keep your email/chat transcript whatever you have to prove you signed up before they switched the requirements to a device, then keep everything civil but forceful when talking to them.

          • @2023: Just got a call from Telstra complaints - they just sent through the 20,000 extra points. Was a battle. If anyone is still struggling, don’t give up, especially if you have proof. It took messaging on chat, speaking and emailing a Telstra rewards person plus then speaking to a complaints person twice and emailing to get it resolved.

            • @rmk: Thankfully you got the extra 20k. Mine was a pretty straightforward case as the plan email sent listed them.

  • I finally got it last night, got through to a better person Last Friday or Saturday who manually ensured it was being done, late yesterday had a phone call advising to expect it soon.

    Wish it wasn't that difficult…

    • Now they forgot to send out one of my 2 rewards….. Hilarious…..

Theyre useless. But I got my Xbox Elite Controller (free) yesterday, so I'm stoked.

  • Finally heard from the Telstra Plus team today, they asked me to forward through the transcript which confirmed the eligibility from the other operator. They double checked and said it's all good and deposited the points, so worked out well in the end :)

Apparently there's a massive backlog in their team which they're getting through.

    • Hi there, I've still been having difficulty obtaining the points. Do you have any correspondence history you'd be willing to share with me so I can help follow up my case?

      Kind regards

  • Made a complaint last week. After a couple of emails from the case manager, ID confirmation and what I was complaining about etc, Got a text today:

"Hello from Telstra Plus. We are currently reviewing your Telstra Plus inquiry. We will be in touch shortly. Learn more, visit telstra.com.au/plus"

    Let's see how this goes.

And they are in my account!

      • Good result - I finally asked on chat about the points and I’ve been referred to the Telstra plus team - they are going to get back to me (received an sms), if I get no joy I’ll do what you did and will lodge a complaint.

        • I asked chat and they said I wasn't eligible. So I had to make the complaint but it seems it was handled by the points team.

          • @happydude: I managed to get 40,000 points out of them but not the 60,000. Contemplating complaining. They tried to say the 40,000 was only for new connections with new mobile. Wish someone had screen shots of the original terms and conditions. I thought I did but I only have screen shots of what showed up when I signed up. Will wait until the 40,000 points show up and then will consider pushing it further.

  • Finally got my points - cancelling service now

    • how did you cancel? via livechat, over the phone? I tried looking at cancelling it via the account, but they don't seem to have that option.

      • live chat - a little painful but got there in the end

    • would appreciate if you could get in contact with me about how you acheived it. currently trying to take it down with the ombudsman but its been fruitless

  • I live chatted approximately 15 times. Was unable to provide evidence of resolve it via Live Chat. Decided to raise it with the ombudsman.

Telstra then formally contacted me much more properly, with a formal complaints department with an employee speaking perfect English. They said they were unable to offer me the 40,000 bonus points on top of the originally applied 20,000 bonus points. They said they could only offer me a credit instead of $180.

I am interested in the bonus points, so I declined.

They said they would advise the ombudsman that the dispute is "unresolved". Supposedly I need to wait until 24th of March to open it again, although I will try to resolve this once more with the ombudsman.

If anybody has any correspondence or documentation that they would like to share that could help me win this fight with the help of the ombudsman, please forward me any documentation on [email protected] and I will in turn keep you in the loop with the progress of my ombudsman request.

  • Is this offer still running? Cant see mention of it on the website

    • it went off the website a long time ago, and people are just fighting to get their points etc.

  • Just reading through the comments here.
I've finished my contract and have no issues paying $60 for a month if it nets me 60k points.

But from what I've read, is it worth it?

    • Not in its current form of offer.
You need to add a device to your contact, it's not just a plan to get the points any more.

For just a plan, yes it was worth it for 60k points, as long as you plan on using them for something on their store.

I moved from the jbhifi plan that still had 9 moths contracted at $65pm to this one with no end of contract fees, so I'm happy with $60 a month (most of which will be a tax deduction anyway).
