Baby Bunting Got Scammed by Private eBay Seller?

I was looking to buy a stroller. RRP$499. was on sale $399 on the Baby Bunting website.

Managed to find a private ebay seller selling the same item for $349 delivered. Have a few positive feedback - selling strollers and car seats.

Decided to buy from this seller and waited for the delivery. Stroller was delivered and only enclosed with 'Delivery Note' from Baby Bunting.

Seller is no longer a registered eBay user. Chat support mentioned that the seller is under investigation.

Tried contacting Baby Bunting for a tax invoice. They cant find the order detail. seems like it has vanished from their system.

any idea how this seller does it?

      • Sorry, the last comment about drop-shipping occurring to me was in relation to some DVDs I bought from ebay, that were sent via Amazon US. Upon checking Amazon US, the ebay seller made a fair bit out of my lack of awareness (at the time).

    • Feedbacks…

    • But that’s not drop shipping. It’s a triangulation scam.

  • Be interesting to see how this ends up.
If seller has used a stolen credit cards at multiple retailers and if the police get involved they will likely show up at addresses stolen items were sent too.
OP is fine but can be a bit scary when you get that knock on the door.

Baby Bunting does not owe the OP anything.

You didn’t purchase from a GST registered seller and are not entitled to a GST refund. Baby Bunting are in no way obligated to provide you with an invoice, they have no contract with you.

If the discount purchasing from a private seller is greater than GST, move on with life.

  • Sometimes a bargain ain't a bargain after all. It is risk with reward when choosing a 3rd party versus original seller.

Btw OP, I'm guessing when listening to music that you have the same song on repeat?

    • yes, the same song for months.

  • +3

    Plot twist

OP is ebay seller with fraudulent card and is a total scam of baby bunting and fraudulent card holder.

Using OzBargain as cover - ‘but look at my forum posts. I genuinely need a receipt. I was scammed’

I bought an iPhone 6 from gumtree and the apple store won't give me the original invoice… outrageous!

  • +4

Mate what has baby bunting got to do with this?? You bought it from private seller. That private seller might was reselling the pram cause they no longer needed it. I am scratching my head when I read you asked invoice with baby bunting? But why??

    • +2

Because it was delivered to him directly from Baby Bunting and he wants to claim TRS.

      • +3

The buyer didn't buy the item from BB. These is also no GST included in the price.

        • +3

I know. This is triangulation fraud. I'm just answering the question.

          • +4

@John Kimble: I think everyone is misreading Kimble's posts. He's giving OP's incorrect POV in TLDR form - not endorsing it.

      • No he clearly said that he found the item at cheaper price from ebay seller compared to baby bunting. Thus, he bought from ebay seller NOT Baby bunting. So, it has nothing to do with baby bunting. So as others have mentioned, I can't expect an invoice from apple store if I bought an brand new iPhone from scumtree.

        • +2

Yes, I know he's wrong. I'm just answering your question. He got confused because it was shipped directly from Baby Bunting, hence the forum post. Most people either don't catch on or catch on and keep quiet.

          What don't you understand?

I can't expect an invoice from apple store if I bought an brand new iPhone from scumtree.

Of course. But what if it was delivered to your address, with your details, directly from an Apple store (hypothetically), wouldn't it confuse you or make you wonder WTF was going on?

Triangulation fraud is not widely publicised, so most people don't even realise.

  • +6

You got what you ordered and are still complaining on the internet?

    Just why?

  • +6

You bought it on eBay from a private seller. It's unreasonable for you to expect a receipt.

This transaction was likely fraudulent but as other people have discussed (more on other threads) there's no impact to you and you can't do much about it. Get over it and move on, please.

  • +2

Item was delivered brand new, and significantly cheaper than what the store is selling at.

Sounds like the opposite of a 'scam'.

    • +4

The OP wasnt the one being scammed thats why.

The seller used a stolen credit card to 'buy' a $400 pram and then sell it to OP for $350.

      • +2

Well, technically he's a part of the scam by knowingly/unknowingly receiving stolen goods.

        • +3

Well, technically OP received the "proceeds of crime" as the goods were paid for, not stolen.

      • +1

"the seller used a stolen credit card" how do we know this? has it been proved or assumption?

  • +3

geez, you received it and now what you want?

Heaps of tourism operators are getting hit with a WeChat scam that works exactly like this. WeChat operator says they can sell tickets at half price, 'innocent' users (who should know better) pay for them, operator uses stolen card to make payment with the real supplier, user gets proper invoices and tickets, and then the victim does a chargeback so the supplier gets completely shafted (and the user too if they didn't get to use the service). Operator usually makes the booking a day or two out from the activity to reduce chance of the chargeback making the supplier aware of the fraud beforehand.

  • +7

What's your point op? You bought an item and you received it. You said it yourself 'private ebay seller' if you want an invoice you should've bought it from the baby bunting site. Clearly you bought it from ebay because it was a better deal this is no different to buying grey import goods.

  • +18

I feel sorry for new born baby to have a dad like this.

  • You can't have your cake and eat it Op. You bought at a discount of $150 from a private seller.
    Why would you contact manufacturer?

  • +7

Customer is harassing a store they didn't shop at, Ebay and PayPal for a tax invoice, refund and who knows what else just so they can claim $30 TRS.

This is really easy to explain, this is a classic

Every time I think I've seen the dumbest OZB thread, a new one comes along and sets a new bar of stupidity. OP chasing BB for an invoice when they didn't even sell the item. OP acts surprised when BB can't find the order in their system, lol. Good grief.

    • +2

I got sent to the sin bin for a few days by inadvertently referring to someone as an idiot…
Maybe these people like OP should be sent to the sin bin for being utterly "stu…d"

    • +4

this post has to get nomination

  • +5

What is the problem… you received the item

    • +3

The actual problem is they're rorting the TRS scheme

As Justin Timberlake once said, "Cry me a river!!!"

  • Easy for the Ebay seller/baby bunting employee to create an invoice in store for what you bought it for, then immediately refund it back into stock, purchasing it later for whatever their employee discount gets them so the stock inventory is level. Then proceed to take the difference.

    • Yeah, their financial controller and accounting firm will just LOVE this tactic… /s

You didn't buy from baby buntings - you bought from a private seller. Drop shipping (or where they got their stock) is irrelevant.

  • +3

Same thing happened to me with a cubby house I purchased from eBay. It was a couple of hundred cheaper than anywhere else so I bought - seller had positive feedback and I paid with PayPal. Received the goods and thought nothing of it, until a couple of months later I received a letter in the mail from the OEM threathening debt collection action against me (they had my correct address but a fake phone and email provided by the dodgy seller). I called them up, provided PayPal and Ebay receipts and they said I was one of approx 10 people this had happened too.

No skin off my nose, I got to keep the cubby and got it for a great price.

i gotta say, triangulation fraud, as simple as it is, is absolute genius. I assume there are syndicates linked to those telemarketers who call up unsuspecting (elderly) home owners with "your computer has a virus, give me your CC details to unlock it" and run the fraud from there.

    • It's not genius at all. They regularly get caught. Their entire "operation" hinges on selling to uneducated buyers. So they need to advertise. They can't keep using the same accounts (as they get suspended) so they're easy to spot.

  • +1

Is it possible that it didn't come from Baby Bunting at all & the paperwork is fake?
This would explain why BB doesn't have record of the delivery docket numbers.

    • Yes, it is possible, anything is possible. We are only speculating here.

But would seem an odd thing to fake.

    • No point. Seller didn't even advertise it as coming from Baby Bunting, so no reason to fake that.

    • -5

I have now found out from calling BB that the order exists. but for some reason, i can't get them to send the invoice copy to me.
even though they have all my details for this order.

      • I guess this would be normal for any drop shipper. They would not want you to see the purchase price that the drop shipper paid.

      • +8

scratching my head as to why you think BB would provide you the invoice unless you have written something incorrectly in your posts., you said you didn't buy from them. Even if the goods came from them (e.g. drop shipper or fraud) you have no right to an invoice from them as they are a 3rd party in your transaction.

        • +2

The OP knows this but is obviously just trying it on. Not sure what they expected from this thread tbh. Plus, you have to question whether all this effort is worth $30

      • How come they could find it now?

  • -1

I love to hate people, and oddly love reading pointed comments as included in this thread. But just out of curiosity, when does it stop? Or is it case that we wait for a new post to redirect attention to.

OP does have a few oddities with this post, but in general has contributed quite noticeably to OZB in the past which I'm sure we've at some point benefited from.

    • Eh?

Traffic and parking infringement posts have been slim so far this month.

Credit card laundry (Whatever the name is called). You(The buyer), the seller and the sender(Baby Bunting) are happy. Only one get screwed is the credit card owner.

    • +2

Nope. BB will have the transaction reversed due to fraud. So they'll be out their money.

Card owner won't be screwed as it's technically not their funds. The bank will recover it or remedy it.

      • You are correct. Any business owner will tell you the bank of the business will ask for proof of purchase, then the bank will try to weasel out of paying and charge the merchant. How could they do this? Because the merchant banks with them and they just take it.

Banks make 1 - 1.5% for the pleasure of providing the infrastructure to facilitate payment.

    HI,
You were thinking of getting $ 36.27 after spending $399.00 with BabyBuntings. Effectively paying $362.77. Now with this fraud - you only paid $349.00

Hai - Don't plan for double dipping again!!

  • -3

    I had something similar happen

Except I did a paypal claim as soon as the dodgy seller closed their ebay account
I got my paypal refund straight away and then a few days later I got a package from kogan :D

    • +4

so you defrauded paypal and kept stolen goods excellent

    GO LEARN BASIC CONTRACT LAW!!!

  • +4

Judging by your comments in this thread you honestly seem like you were aware and complacent in this scam as you were going to benefit from it. However, even if you somehow weren't, how would Baby Bunting know you aren't the one defrauding them?

Suck it up, take your "loss" and maybe next time don't be dodgy.

  • +2

So you got the item…but you want the original receipt side eye and yet you bought from a third party on Ebay.

Wow you have way too much free time on your hands.

  • Sounds to me like OP is the scammer! He paid a good price for a pram from a private seller on eBay, received it in good condition, and yet now wants a refund? Seriously?!?
