Yup, ready to go now, waiting for the rain to stop before I drive.

This looks amazing. Anyone know if there's anything similar in Victoria?

For a second, I actually entertained the idea of flying up to Brisbane for a weekend just for this. I love books. If this came to Victoria, I would be all over it.

      • If you don't want to go as far Canberra has its annual Lifeline Book Fair, Canberra's one has about half a million items.

        • @sss333 I have yet to attend that one. I hear tales that the BLB is the largest book fair in the southern hemisphere, but have yet to see definitive proof. Would you say Canberra's is smaller?

@bargain huntress: Canberra's definitely smaller but has grown significantly over the years.

@doublehelix I'm trying to work out what I will do if i move interstate. ship via rail?

        • +1

Max out return check in lol

          • @doublehelix95: hmm… i could fly up with empty check-in and carry-on suitcases, and take just the clothes on my back and a few personals in my pockets i guess… cargo pants!

@doublehelix95 If you're ever in Perth, check out the Book Bazaar - https://www.slfwa.org.au/book-bazaar. They're open Monday to Friday all year round, with regular sales (usually once a month) although the normal prices are pretty cheap anyway and have thousands of books on the tables at any one time. It's the one thing I miss about Perth LOL.

Nice, hoping to do Perth later this year actually! Thanks!

(In QLD the regional ones tend to be a lot smaller and don't always run every year. I didn't see a Melbourne one.)

And I can't promise any of these are as big either, but there a bunch not-uniting ones on google events

For anyone who isn't a regular - the last day (Mon 27th for this) normally has a semi-decent sale. Lately it's been: HQ are half price, $2.50 to $1 and $1 are 3 or 5 for $1.

  • i just went for the first time in years.

    My Tips:
*take a car if you can - parking is $35
*rent a trolley - $2 and ID as security
*cold and hot cafes are behind the High Quality section - it's reasonably priced but taking a lunchbox obviously cheaper
Section order: $1 then $2.50 then High Quality
*have a total budget, divide by 3 as a budget for each section, then add any unspent to the next section's budget
*Have a time limit for each section.
I recommend spending most of your time in the $2.50 section.
*$1 is the least organised. The $2.50 section has more subjects and it's much easier to find what you want, but is 2 to 12 times cheaper than the High Quality section.
*take a smart phone to price compare in the High Quality section
*take a catalogue of your existing book/music/video collections if you have them
*it is impossible to look at everything in one day so choose your focus areas
*if you live near-by and have the time remember that entry is free and they restock many times. there were containers and containers of materials waiting all along the walls today for room to become available
