Looks like a great comfort addition for the Nintendo switch in hand-held mode. This is the cheapest I've seen this. Going for $89-$100 elsewhere and was recently on sale at EB Games for $88. So at $77 this seems a bargain.

Just bought a pair myself, so can't give you my opinion, but the reviews seem pretty good. I think this sums it up well.

Basically…
- Twice the size of regular joy con
- Sticks might feel better than pro controller sticks
- Rear buttons that can map to any of the face buttons
- Kickstand on the back of each controller to keep stable when placing on a table (umm… I guess that's useful?)
- No motion control, HD Rumble or NFC
- Obviously are not appropriate for a switch Lite

I mainly want it as with large hands I've always found switch in hand-held mode to be a little cramped.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone :)

Also, note this is shipped from Amazon US.

Edit: Seems to be the cheapest all time price according to CamelCamelCamel.

I bought and returned this at EB because the lack of rumble didn't seem a lot before buying , but without rumble my gameplay had a wooden feeling . So turned it even though rest of it was fine

    • I imagine this might depend on the game too? For example, probably not missing much in Pokemon. What sorts of games do you play out of curiosity? Also, what did you think of it outside of not having rumble?

      • +2

I bought it mainly for Hollow Knight as it has tight platforming and timing attacks, so thought a bigger accurate joycon replacement will help, but the game uses the rumble excellently and has become part of my gameplay.

Other than missing rumble there isn't anything to complain, the buttons seem mushy at first but got used to it easily and was comfortably sized

I think I'd miss the HD rumble as well.

    • Different strokes for different folks.

      I always turn off rumble.

      • Different strokes for different folks.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

  • The price of an official pro controller lol

      ?

It's Hori though. Hori do quality products.

    • Two different use cases , this is a joycon replacement which attaches to console for portable play. Pro is mainly for docked

      • i get it. less features (no motion control is a big one for games like BOTW), same price, unofficial (which, as anyone from the old days knows, can cause issues with syncing)…not sure who the target audience is at this price

        • Agree on other points, but this is an official licensed product. So support is guaranteed. It is comfortable, for long sessions etc, but missing rumble was no good for me, so returned it

          • @otter-raptor: wow. even comfortable when holding the switch for hours? ive done that a few times and found its really sore. not good for long term to hold it handheld. but with a controller i can game all day and have no ragrets

            • @belongsinforums: It was really comfortable to hold for long sessions and a sturdy product(it feels hollow though as it lacks rumble ,gyro etc ). It maybe perfect for many people, just not for me as I like rumble

To help with the long sessions I got one of the TOMTOP grip and case combo pack off Amazon, that helps a bit

  • I got this from aliex cos my hands too big

Dunno if I can post here but delete if not appropriate

It’s just oversize rubber grips. Just ordered waiting ten years for it to arrive

I purchased this hori controllers for $100 day 1 no regrets I haven't used joy cons not even once after that.

In my opinion is a must if you take your fighting games and platforming games seriously "I'm always on the go" don't have time to play with pro controller.

Without rumble these are overpriced IMO. I don't understand why Hori nerfs their products like this.

      It's pretty simple to understand.

Bean counter A said: "I don't think adding rumble would increase our sales of this product, significantly more than the people who would buy it without rumble, against the cost of adding rumble to every device".

Bean counter B said: "Yep, that looks right, we'd have to sell X more units and this is already a niche product designed around a single game".

Head Boss A said: "Ok, I'm going to lunch".

  • If you strictly play handheld, like me, these are worth the investment. It's much more comfortable than the normal joy-cons, and does increase your accuracy when playing shooters like Fortnite. They fit perfectly in my hand, and the extra buttons at the back, coupled with the assign and turbo functions, makes it even more awesome.

I literally forgot about the rumble feature ever since I bought these.

  • What case are you guys using with these?

Kinda tempted to buy a pair, but love my Tomtoc Slim Case for taking my Switch on the go.

  • Hori are awesome

  • Can these be used like regular joy cons (without attaching to Switch - so independent when the Switch is docked)?

Edit - Found out - it doesn't have inbuilt battery so can be only used with Switch in handheld mode.

  • These are great. Can't go back to joycons when using the Switch handheld, these are always attached now.

The features they lack are insignificant to me, the benefits of essentially a pro controller in handheld are way greater.

Plus the turbo buttons can come in handy in a few games, especially RPGs with repetitive tasks.
