Record low price. Colour is rare Alpine White with blue accents. Extra 3% off with AGL Rewards EBay gift cards. Approx. $95 diy 2x8gb memory upgrade through EBay.

    • Is it really that easy to upgrade the RAM ourselves? Coz I have ordered this laptop and I would definitely like to upgrade the RAM.

      • Yes, please search how to do in YouTube video.

If you diy memory upgrade you can get 3000mhz ddr4 sodimm for $85 on EBay, which is faster than the stock 2666mhz.

        • Thanks for the reply mate, now just waiting for the laptop to arrive and in a meantime I will search for a good deal on RAM.

        • @BongoOB if you have a link of the RAM you are talking about then it would be appreciated if you share it mate.

        • I'm getting this RAM for $49, will it be good for this laptop:
          Crucial 8GB (1x8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 SODIMM RAM

          • @SwaTTer: Link?

            • @MuddyClear: Link of an eBay listing of a RAM @ $85 as you have mentioned in the very first reply. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Not a bad deal, but the i7 one looks well worth the extra spend over this one though.

    • +3

~$260 (about 30%) extra for 16GB Ram and i7. It's probably worth it if you're doing CPU intensive tasks but the 9th gen i5 is adequate for most games. Memory upgrade will be under $100 + you can sell the 2x 4GB that come with it.

    • +4

Depends what you need the laptop for. These are supposed to be for gaming and the i7 is a waste over the i5 when paired with a 1650

This laptop is more balanced than the other one

      • +1

Just based on my older gen laptop which has a mid range card from it's era (950M / i5-6300Q from memory).

In Dota 2, and anything else it can actually run, it usually maxes out the i5 CPU on all cores but not the GPU, suggesting that if it did have an i7 it would perform much better at gaming.

Personally I'd go for the extra oomph so it's still pretty awesome in 2 years time even if it's not a gaming bottleneck now - I think most would agree that the Ram is an essential upgrade regardless so really its only (say around) $160 difference.

        • You will get the extra oomph, but it will not be significant at a price/performance ratio for most games.

      • You’re 100% correct. This is why the gtx 1660 gpu is better paired with the g5 which has a different chassis for better air ventilation.

  • Has anyone ordered any dell on eBay? Have you received delivery dispatch email? I'm thinking to order it but it says it will get delivered by 14 Feb.. need it by 8feb.

    • I've ordered before, they take time manufacturing and sending it from Malaysia

    • From my last 2 experiences, it has taken a few weeks.

  • A 1650 for $900 is a cracker of a deal!

Absolutely no reason to get those 3 year old 1050/ti unless it was considerably cheaper.

      To avoid Dell.

  • You can often find the Asus FX505DT on eBay for not much more. It has almost identical specs, with the equivalent Ryzen APU instead of Intel (so better integrated graphics, for whatever that's worth). Build quality is a bit plasticky but solid enough. Also it's black not white, and honestly, that would probably be the biggest difference. Plus stock doesn't need to be built first, so should ship much faster than Dell.

    • Thanks for the feedback. In that case would this be a better purchase with this price ?
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-TUF-FX505DT-15-6-120Hz-IPS-…

      • No it's $180 more, just for a sightly better GPU. The Dell G5 deal posted earlier is far better value.

      1. No one cares about integrated graphics on a gaming laptop with dedicated graphics.
      2. Colour is a personal preference, and I prefer Alpine white with blue accents over the standard black - No more finger print marks.
      3. Asus Tuf FX505DT cons based on reviews: average colour panel, slower ram 2400mhz, all ports on one side (left), pulsing loud fan under load, and over-heating/throttling issue due to inadequate cooling.
      • This Dell has all the same cons.

It's a sub-$1000 laptop - if you expect professional grade colour reproduction and high end ram from anything in this price range, you deserve to be disappointed.

All things considered, the Dell is an excellent bargain for this price, even better than the already great value Asus FX505.

          It's a sub-$1000 laptop

Only because it’s heavily discounted in this sale.

This Dell has all the same cons.

You clearly haven’t done your research or just an idiot. The ram alone is faster at 2666mhz. It also has twice the amount of cooling pipes than the FX505DT.

  • Any comments on the display?

    • It’s an ok display. Good for gaming but if you’re doing photo or video editing, you’ll want something with better colour accuracy

      • Thanks for the feedback. Just read some reviews/comments saying it was quite dull. Colour accuracy is not an issue for my tasks. Thanks so much!

    • Just received this. Display is more than adequate for what this laptop is for. I'm def very happy with it.

Update: Customer feedbacks are saying it’s actually 512gb Toshiba NVMe SSD drive, not 256gb despite what the description says.

  • +3

Just received this laptop in FNQ. 2 week turn around from order to receiving, should be faster for those in large metropolitan areas. The laptop is fantastic and bonus! They threw in a 512gb nvme drive instead of the advertised 256gb. Installing games now but what a killer deal! Thanks OP, this is exactly what I was looking for!

ok just an update, I've downloaded a few older games like bf4 and rocket league and the machine runs beautifully. Happy with the white colour as well. I reckon it will need that 16gb ram upgrade and probably a 1tb hdd for extra storage but I'm pretty happy with it. Build quality is surprisingly good for the price and the display is not very bright but it's def workable.

    • I got mine within a week. Did not come with tax invoice so had to email for that. All manuals need to be downloaded as well. I will need to work out which upgrades might break warranty. I think ram upgrade should be ok.

FYI, In bios, drive is setup for raid. I think that needs to be changed to achi or something…

      • pretty sure most things would be fine for warranty (hdd, ram, wifi card), just not things that are soldered in

I also found that you can change the keyboard backlight timeout in the bios last night. Much improved now.

Ran some games and was getting 100+ fps in BF4 on ultra settings with 4x MSAA. Pretty impressive. Coming from a surface pro, I find the keyboard is much nicer too. The touchpad isn't my fav though, very rough texture, would have been better if they had left it smooth.

        • Not sure about the following bloatware: dell Alienware software and Dell support assist suite of software.

          • @MuddyClear: Yeah, first thing I do with all new computers is remove the bloatware. Mcafee can bugger right off

            • @blergmonkeys: Yes McAFee is gone! I didn’t bother with free trial of office and uninstalled it for libre office. Bunch of other game apps gone like candy crush. Made a disk image for backup just in case.

              1. Not sure about the following bloatware: dell Alienware software and Dell support assist suite of software.

              2. The start button needs to be pressed quite hard to register.

              3. Default ssd set to raid in bios. Has anyone changed it to achi without a problem?

  • Mine arrived today, and I only ordered it on Sunday.

The deal ends today, I'm thinking of ordering another one.

  • +1

Do you guys know how to activate Windows 10 on the laptop, mine arrived today but it says I haven't activated Windows 10

    • -1

Should already be activated. I would contact Dell about it

    • You just click on the troubleshooting link and it will automatically activate.

It's quite common for new computers to have had the image made months before it was copied onto the computer, and the result is Windows not activating automatically, but it will activate just fine once you tell it to.
