ASUS RT-AC67U Aimesh AC1900 Wi-Fi System Twin Pack $255 PU Or $265 Delivered @ Austin Computers

60

Looking for a twin pack AC68U, but no sale at the moment.

Found AC67U - spec is approximately 90% identical with minimal difference that will not impact performance. 1. Non removable antenna 2. Revised CPU 3. Not vertical stand.

Seems like a bargain.

  • looking for ac68u for the upcoming NBN as well.
    any experience shared?

    • What's happening with NBN?

      • just got letter in mailbox saying “the NBN will be ready in your area in Feb or March”, poor me.

        • Don’t forget you’ve got 18 months to make a decision after the nbn arrives in your area.

    • Asus router has been driving me nuts lately as internet drops out several times a day. It seems to lose DHCP and fails to reconnect. I have Optus NBN and internet stays connected with other branded routers including Optus Sagemcon router.

I have Asus RT-AC68U and RT-AC5300 on the latest firmware (both stock Asus and Merlin), both disconnects randomly throughout the day.

      • Oh that happened to me last Friday as well.

DHCP server error but connecting direct from fibre box to laptop would work.

      • Thanks a lot. then might look at the netgear one as well.

What are the differences between the RT-AC67U and RT-AC68U? They both look very similar.
    Hi Gus001,
Spec wise they are pretty much the same with differnet hardware layout.
    regards,
    Jack Cheng, ASUS Australia

*The RT-AC86U + RT-AC67U will definitely provide more coverage than RT-AC67U 2Pack primarily due to the better coverage delivered by RT-AC86U. And of couse, the RT-AC67U 2pack will be able to provide better coverage than single RT-AC86U.

The RT-AC67U is actually newer than the RT-AC68U. Our naming rule is actually based on the specification rather than the time the product is introduced to the market.*

Tempting but… Second hand there are plenty of AC68U on FB…

    • How much for a 68u on FB?

  • For FTTN connection. Do I need an Asus RT or an Asus DSL One?
Any recommendations for a 2 story townhouse?

    • Get cheap modem from FB and set to bridging mode. Better to buy RT version…

      • Sorry I meant FTTP. Would that be the same?

  • This pair or a D-Link AC3200?

    • I have this D-Link and it works very well. Good coverage, but my NBN max's out at 12/6, I had a 50/25 plan, but changed to the 25/5 due to my line speed limitations. NBN - what a waste …
      https://www.dlink.com.au/DSL-3900-wireless-2600-dual-band-gi…

      • Cool, thanks for the info

    • I wouldn't recommend a d-link. I have a Taipan which was so expensive, I couldn't connect to the internet upstairs, diagonally from my study on a very open plan house. Thought it was my Macbook issue, bought a Google Mesh and it works perfectly now. $500 down the drain. I prefer my parents ac68u

      • Yupe. Our current router is not powerful enough to go from one end of the house to another with 4-5 gyprock walls in between.

Gonna give this pair a go. Since the 67Us are pretty much the same as 68Us…

I got 3 RT-AC68U and have been testing out the AI-Mesh functions
found out that many of my IOT stuff (eg. LIFX light bulbs, XiaoMi robot) have connection drop issues
If I just run as main router + other 2 as AP they works totally fine

Personal experience is if you are after Mesh network
Better buy a proper mesh routers set (even Tenda which is far cheaper provide more stable connections!)

    • I'm running two AC68U's here.

found out that many of my IOT stuff (eg. LIFX light bulbs, XiaoMi robot) have connection drop issues

Same problems here when in AI Mesh mode for my IOT devices like the Google Home Mini's, Smart Displays and various other WiFi devices.
Like you, I found it better to simply assign them both with the same SSID on different channels in AP mode, no issues since for any device.

      • With same SSID and AP did you find the devices more seamless?

Bit worried about AI mesh now… But Netgear Orbi was no better

        • Much more seamless when compared to the mesh. The mesh forces all APs to run on the same channel (and SSID of course) which seems to be where all the trouble comes from.

Even smarter devices like my phone (S9) and tablet (Surface Pro 5) switches between APs in a more seamless manner when the mesh isn't being used.

          • @Goldfire: With that in mind I wouldn't even need an Asus router would I? Could technically combine a Netgear and it'll still work?

            • +1

@R3XNebular: you can always make these as standalone router / AP with same SSID
for non-mesh setup, optimal solution will be setting same SSID with different channel as @Goldfire mention
typical setup for router and APs are channel 1,6,11
which provide less interference with each other

however, it will also be good to use some wifi analyzer app (a lot in android playstore)
              which analyze surrounding wifi channels
and try to pick the channels that are less busy

              • @[Deactivated]: Thanks might give that a go. Would you need to manually connect each device to the AP or would it just automatically connect cause it has the same SSID

                • @R3XNebular: they connect automatically
however, if you are holding a wifi device (eg. smartphone) and walking in your home
in AP settings, sometimes it will not re-pickup the strongest AP when you walk from point A to point B

Try turning off "airtime fairness" in wireless settings.

      • This, I had enormous issues even joining wireless devices to my network before I turned this setting off. Paritcularly Sonos and Yamaha Musiccast devices were difficult to join and would just drop off. No issues after turning off airtime fairness. I have RT-AC88U.
