  • One more thing didn't mention, the 2 have more button to control than the 2S.

For power consumption, I have previous model Kogan premium fan vs normal AC fan

    Kogan premium DC fan
    Lowest Silent 1 - 26w
Max Normal 26 with Oscillation on - 238w

    Cheap AC fan from Bunnings
    Lowest 1 - 151w
    Max 3 with Oscillation on - 173w

I don’t have Xiaomi fan so I can’t compare them. Kogan blow much more air flow than the other when both at max speed. For a similar air flow (test by face), Kogan consume 144w compare 173w from AC fan. So I guess you save around 20-30w (0.6 cents). Or it take 14833 hours (618 days if 24hours switch on ) to save $89. This may help someone making a decision paying an expensive fan.

    • True but people getting dc fan for quietness and multiple speed steps, that AC fan can't provide.
i got one because of the comments …….

Max Normal 26 with Oscillation on - 238w

Is that right? Can your meter read reactive loads accurately? 238W is very high for a household fan. My old Vornado only consumes 54.5W at max speed, as measured with a Clipsal power meter.

What is the wattage figure that's stated on the fan's nameplate?

    • Those numbers don't sound right at all.

Did get me curious what the 2S draw is though. Here's what I got as measured with an HS110. Battery was fully charged.

      Standby: 0.9W
      Speeds 1 to 4 (max): 1.8W, 2.8W, 7.3W, 11.7W
      Oscillation adds about 1.4W

You guys are correct, my meter was reading A, not W.
        Kogan DC fan: 2.2w - 29.8w (18.9w = max AC)
        Normal AC fan: 35.2w - 42w

Save around 23w, if 1kw = $0.262. Save $0.006/hr. This is Kogan premium DC fans, according you tested on Xiaomi, could save a bits more.

  • Looks like you get 3% cashback via cash rewards on your first order.

  • can someone tell me if it is worth getting 3year extended warranty for the 2S model? its just $19 and incase something goes wrong we can claim repair/replace.

  • I love the 2S, have it set up next to me when I'm on the computer and people I'm talking to can't hear it. Use Google Home to turn it on and off but phone to change the speed settings. Thinking about buying another one…

  • Doesn't come in black. Dealbreaker.

    • Black spray paint

  • What do people think of the longevity of the battery? I imagine most people would leave it plugged in and only have the batteries for the portable backup uses, but unless it has good charging smarts like modern laptops the battery will die long-term quicker being always plugged in.

I placed my order, but later found other options like Mist Fan https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-dc-motor-mist-fan/

    or Evaporative cooler https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-extreme-evaporative-coole…

    or this bladeless fan https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-smarterhome-bladeless-dc-…

Although the first 2 are not Smart fans, would love to know whether they are any better or cooler thanks to mist or evaporation compared to a traditional fan. Any of you have experience with these Kogan fans or other brands?

    • +1

Not if it's humid for the first two.

    • Top 2 would require open window or airflow I think? Or else the bedroom or room its in would get too muggy?

      • Would work if room is not humid, so very dry. If it's humid, as is often in Darwin, then no good.

  • Over $100 for a fan? Big W $15 stand fan doing just fine for me… LOL… i would buy few more if not enough to blow over the whole lounge room…

    • i would buy few more if not enough

      One not noisy enough?

      • Well… it does make a low noise but not on squeaking level that can't be acceptable. Probably i'm not that sensitive but even an engine noise when a car is running, is louder that the fan motor rotating.

Well just my own opinion. Since most of the time i'm on the road driving.

  • The Hyundai 3 height adjustable DC motor fan looks pretty good. No smart wi-fi control etc, but I can live without that. Seems a better all-rounder than the 2… The 2s is another level of utility though.

Had to grab a 2S to see what all the fuss is about.

  • Getting the 2S thanks…Dont forget cashrewards

    • will cashrewards work? I don't think FREEBIE code is listed.

      • Worked for me. Got $3.62 back.

  • +1

Ordered the 2S on wednesday night sent from VIC yesterday and already in Sydney although not yet delivered. I am actually kind of impressed as Kogan shipped as quick as they started to spam my email mailbox.

    • 23hrs from order placement 2pm yesterday to shipment notification for me. If it was Amazon it'd probably be at my door already, but still reasonably impressed with Kogan.

The AU compliant figure 8 power cable (black) hasn't shipped yet so lucky I have about 25 spares in my box of tricks. Annoying that Kogan don't make the effort to supply a white cable to match the white fan.

      • What ! they don’t give you the original power cord ?

        • The cable from banggood is the original white one and not aussie plug.

    • +1

Last time I ordered from Banggood aussie warehouse and received about the same time frame.

  • +1

I've received the fan but it didn't came with a Australian/New Zealand compliant Power Cable it advertised

    • What does your shipment notification email you got from Kogan say? mine said fan shipped but cable not shipped yet.

That one email is the only place I've seen mention of the cable as a separate item, and also the only place that mentions the cable is black colour.

Did the fan come with the standard power cable? I asssume this is chinese plug so might work in AU sockets

      • My order email didn't even mention the AU plug/cable so I assumed it would come with the fan, but the only the Chinese cable was in the box, how did the AU cable mentioned in your email? I went back to my order history, only the fan is listed there, no separate AU cable was listed in the order history,

        • Neither did my order email, or order details on kogan website. I asked what your shipment notification email said.

        • Chinese (same as ours but inverted) or europe

  • they sent a European power cord and will not respond to any contact !
a truly shite company. never again.

    • Be patient, the AU cord will turn up eventually.

They must be out of stock of the cords so shipped the fans without them. Better than waiting IMO considering most people probably have a spare cord or a travel adapter already.

      • i cannot grasshopper they have hurt me.

        • don't let anger cloud your judgement. the path chosen is wise.

          • @watts: as do our politicians ??

            • @mudguppy1: Don’t bring me down with politics while I’m relaxing in front of this quiet natural breeze.

      • What's annoying me about this is that there's no ETA on the power cable.

      • Oooh, I went through the box so many times. Luckily have a few spares.

  • Received today - no adapter cable (fan comes with Europe plug) which is fine because it's Kogan and I know they can't figure out how to boil water let alone make a good customer experience.

Assembled the fan, it was working awesome, then walked it up the stairs and the head fell off, it snapped at the neck at the plastic.

Trying to contact Kogan now, but I can't put in any sort of warranty claim as they think the item is still on it's way so they delete any form of contact, which is great fun. Hoping to get it sorted, but they are now out of stock of the item so it's not looking promising.

Anyone else have the head break off?

Also, Kogan is atrocious, it's the last time I will order of them.

    • oh damn. No such problem with my 2S and I've moved it around a lot.

I'm not sure of your terminology though. I guess 'Head' = whole top assembly (motor, fan blades, shroud) and 'Neck' = post. So the break is at the top of the post where it connects to the top assembly?

      Is that right?

Any noticeable damage to the box when you received it.

I was surprised that mine came without any additional packaging, just the xiaomi box. It has a few dings but nothing too bad. Maybe yours got thrown around a bit.

      • Sorry, I meant the base to the where the motor starts, the plastic connector broke at the top of the aluminium pole.

Had to get a ticket through the sales channel as I STILL can't contact them any other way.

They replied stating I won't have to return the product, and they can reship me one in April when they get more stock, otherwise they can credit me (not refund).

I have just asked for a refund as I won't need it in April, there is no way I would take a credit with Kogan, I was skeptical from buying from them at the start of this transaction.

    • Anyone else have the head break off?

      Only Lloyd and Harry

      • Pretty biiiiiiiird.

  • Has anyone tried the voice integration with Alexa/Google? Can you provide some feedback re this? Also, someone stated that the unit is going to sleep after every 2 hours, is that happening to every unit?

    • +1

I set up Siri voice commands and I guess it's similar for Alexa/Google. Once an automation is setup there was an option in miHome to add to Siri and then nominate the command I wanted for each action. I settled on: Fan speed 1 (2, 3, 4) and Stop the fan. I tried 'blow me' to start the fan but Siri took offence.

I haven't noticed mine going to sleep at all.

    • +1

Not going to sleep by itself here (timer set in app maybe?) As for voice control I'm using with Google, can turn on and off ok. Haven't been able to set oscillation or standard/natural mode. You can set speed if you like pain. It goes like this:

Me: Hey Google, set fan to speed 4.
Google: Actually, fan doesn't support that.
Me: Hey Google, set fan to speed 4.
Google: Sorry, I don't know how to help with that.
Me: Hey Google, set fan to speed 4.
Google: OK, setting fan to speed 2.
Me: Banging head on wall. (I'm using a speaker, but also have my phone in front of me and clearly see it recognised the word four on screen.)

      • +1

Me: 'Hey Google, set a timer for two hours and twenty minutes"
Nest hub screen: - set a timer for 2 hours and 20 minutes -
Nest Hub: 'Ok, setting a timer for 20 minutes'

On topic- mine doesn't sleep either, I have it on next to me when I'm on the computer, so on the weekend I can be there all day sometimes. I only use on/off which works without any problems.

    • Thanks everyone for the feedback, really appreciate it.

  • Anyone got their Australian figure 8 cable delivered?

    • Shipment notification Monday, but not received yet.
