ATEN UH3230 USB-C Dock (60W USB-PD, Dual Monitor, USB 3.0 & Gigabit Ethernet) $119.50 + Shipping @ Wireless 1

100
WOW50

Shipping was $6.24 to Sydney but YMMV.

Full featured USB-C docks usually retail over $200 so this is pretty good! Advantages over the cheaper docks include:

  • 60W USB-PD charging with the required AC adapter included (cheap ones usually do not come with the actual AC adapter)
  • DP++ over USB-C dock for native video interfaces (as opposed to DisplayLink docks that load up the CPU)
  • Run two monitors simultaneously support with DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 interfaces

  • I think this is what I need for my work laptop, Does anyone know this brand or know whether it's a good buy?

    • I have the one that lets you switch between devices on one monitor by pressing a button. It works fine. It has a shared USB port but it doesnt power my RGB keyboard. There's a support forum and their products are decent so they aren't a cheapo brand.

  • Supports dual monitor only at 1080p

It's a good deal if you don't need 4k@60hz. The spec sheet says

    Single-View:
    DisplayPort- 3840x2160@30*
    or
    HDMI - 4096x2160@30

    Dual-View**:
    DisplayPort 1 - 2048x1200@60*
    HDMI 2 - 1920x1200@60

*With Intel 7th-Generation Core Processor (Kaby Lake) and above. More info about CPU generation, please find: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor…
For video output to work through a USB-C port, device with DP Alt Mode support is required. The UH3230 supports DP++ standard for using optional active/passive video adapter to convert DP signals to DVI/HDMI.
** For Dual-View to work, a computer's graphics card must support MST technology. Mac computers only support a single-view output.

Yeah, it's tough finding one to support 4k@60Hz - most docks preference giving bandwidth to USB 3 and Gigabit Ethernet instead of to the video lanes to support 4k@60Hz. Which is daft IMO because USB 2.0 is fine to support the usual docked items (keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc).

One such dock costs a lot more - it lets the user select between 4k@60Hz with USB3 or 4k@30Hz with USB2.

My laptop has a BIOS option to cut USB and Ethernet speeds to allow 4k@60Hz - in theory it could work with this dock as all it does is pass through the DP++ signal from the USB-C interface and DP1.2/HDMI2.0 ports support 4k@60Hz, but I don't have a 4k monitor to test this with.

      • still "waiting" for 1080p@120Hz docks

    • … Mac computers only support a single-view output

This dock is not gonna help if dual-screen with Mac is your goal.

    No 4K 60Hz. Not really a deal

  • I have a laptop with one hdmi port, can this be used to hook 2 additional monitors so I can extend my screen onto them? I notice on this device there’s only one hdmi port (I don’t have a display port cable)

  • I've searched a little with minimal success, but is there a device that has purely usb-c ports? I only have one on my desktop and I usually require 3 or 4.

  • 60W is pretty low power. Don't be surprised if this had issues when you are using a lot of ports and charging

  • If you can buy a dedicated dock for your hardware, these universal ones ain't that good in my experience.

  • I own 2 dell d6000 docks.
    Great for work and Home

  • Sweet, been chasing one of these for my Lenovo E495 with its accursed single PD/DP USB-C port.
