True, it will take a bit of time to get used to competitive pricing after a decade of intel monopoly.

    • +11

Setiously, whats with the useless brand loyalty? This is so much better than the similarly priced intel chip…

        • +7

I bet you also love overpriced apple products, right? Whats it like being trapped in a manufacturers ecosystem?

            • +9

@MuddyClear: Ok Todd Howard, "Everything just works", that explains the continuous critical security flaws from intel chips over the past couple of years. 2 already just this year. There is also the fact they still cant get 7nm chips out. I am not ever an AMD user, but you can be sure my next cpu will be from AMD if intel deosnt get their crap together.

                • +1

@MuddyClear: If I am, probably not more disappointed then I am with the clowns over at intel at the moment. They brought this on themselves for getting complacent and ripping off consumers since they didnt have any big competition. I hope AMD similarly shakes up the GPU market with the upcoming high end Navi gpus. Competition is only good for the consumer.

                • +3

@MuddyClear: Been AMD for 2 years now. Running better than my old Intel did.

        • +3

Haven't had any issues with AMD and I've been using them since the Ryzen 2600 came out. It's always funny how Intel and Nvidia fanboys always go to entirely subjective claims to denounce AMD such as "Intel just works" and "AMD drivers are terrible". I've never had issues with AMD, Intel or Nvidia. Just buy what gives you the best bang for your buck and suits your needs.

            @Yuri Lowell:

            and "AMD drivers are terrible".

It’s an ongoing issue. You may not experience it unless you play certain games - Usually games developed with intel in mind.

            • @MuddyClear: Its almost like certain games are optimized for either amd or intel, crazy thought right? Ive had more than a few cases of games running subpar with my intel cpu also.

              • -6

@Vinodra: Maybe crazy to you but all the good games are optimised for intel.

                • +1

@MuddyClear: Yeeeaaaah nah, once again I use an intel cpu, so I would know… Im done arguing with someone who thinks a product is better just because they like the brand name. This is going nowhere. At the end of the day the only person you're hurting is yourself by being so loyal to a brand you cant see its flaws.

                  • -5

@Vinodra: There are plenty of great intel deals that come by here. Just keep your eyes open for them and you won’t get hurt.

                • @MuddyClear: I like how you havent given a single example of an actual game

        • +1

I built my very first computer with parts I bought during the black friday sales at the end of last year. Did a bit of reading about which parts were compatible and which weren't. I threw the whole thing together in two hours, AMD cpu and all. And guess what? Booted up the first time, had no issues installing windows, or playing games, or overclocking, and it's still running perfectly fine to this day. It just works.

          • -2

@Kurohayabusa: Just be weary that the cool games are optimised for intel. That’s how it’s always been.

            • @cooluser123kappa: Amiga was considered a "Gaming Machine" and that was a contributing factor to it's demise despite it being better than Intel "business" computers .Lets hope Intel fall a bit further so they bring on some real innovation with their enormous R&D budget . Otherwise we will back to another monopoly , albeit an AMD monopoly .

Great value for a great processor. Seems pretty close to the historical low.

I run one of the these in my main gaming rig and it is a great CPU…
Paired with a 2070 super it play everything well.

COD MW always over 100 at 1440,

Lots of deals for AMD says to me the new gen is coming

    • +5

Well, if there being a new gen every year at around the same time wasnt an indication… We are a little over half way through the 3000 series. Expect the 4000 series in late June or early July.

      • +15

A smart buyer would clearly wait until AMD announce they’re shutting down their development before buying a CPU so they’d never have to worry about new models.

        • Leakes suggest 4XXX being another huge performance gain, so unless you are building your first pc or your current CPU kicked the bucket, just wait lol. Not loosing out if you get a current gen CPU within its first 4-5 months in my opinion. Im currently using an i7 6700k, so im good to wait untill later this year for a more substantial upgrade.

          • @Vinodra: When release Sir? End of 2020?

            • @dreamscene: I dont work for amd. All you need to do is look at previous ryzen releases for a timeframe, late april at the earliest and early july at the latest.

            • @dreamscene: Ryzen are made in China though, doesn't fit your Japan only scheme

          • @Vinodra: Yes the new CPUs will be a performance gain but what about price/performance ratio? New hardware is always more expensive so you are looking at another year wait for it to drop to this sort of pricing level.

            • @Agret: Yes but last gen gets discounted .

          • @Vinodra: Coronavirus could delay the 4000 processors further until end of 2020 as they are "made in China"

    • lots of deal from price hijacker says to me that someone's earning doggy money

  • +4

Through the futu online 20% sale this comes to $447.20 + free postage, so unless you get free shipping on this not sure if it's better.

  • +5

Still rocking a 8700k, but next system in probably 2-3 generations will definitely be an AMD. If you need a new system now, AMD is a good choice and will only get better from her on out. Most of the stability issues with the early adopters have been ironed out.

AMD systems are dominating the Amazon search results. Anyone hanging onto Intel platforms, they're still good platforms but the days are numbered. AMD are working towards 4 threads per core and developers are scrambling to optimise games for high core counts.

    Intel has no foreseeable response.

    • I’m expecting Intel might start hitting back when it gets EUV in late 2021 (or thereabouts)…

    Deal on 3900X?

  • Spewing. Just bought one today from MSY ..

    • +1

dont even regret, my order from FTC have fake post tracking numbers, never shipped for 2 weeks+ until I clicked take action on Ebay, and even till today I still haven't get my refund yet.

Keep shopping with the good business, and screw those price hijackers, they take your money and won't ship your product.

      • +1

happened to me too, however I wonder if something happened to ftc, because they did manage to send parts back in October/November when I ordered from them. Not sure if anyone got their order for the 3900X

    • +1

Me too. I am also still waiting for my refund. Raised a case with Ebay and they say they have refunded to paypal but may take 2-3 days to appear, so I will wait and hope. I ended up buying one from UMart for $759 but I supposedly am getting a full refund of $666 for the FTC order. This had a $50 Ebay voucher from joining Ebay Plus and a small discount 2.5% discount. FTC had sent an email saying it had been despatched when clearly it hadn't been, so i had already gone ahead and ordered other components.

/me looks at overclocked 2600K and asked is it time yet?

    • +1

Yes… Just moved up from my 2600k to a 3700x this week.

    • Its not really an upgrade . Its a new computer . DDR4 , NVME , mobo etc ..

    • Hehe I'm looking at my 2500K and rubbing my beard…

$447.2 (using code POTENT) on Futu Online eBay (free postage, have to pay for postage via shopping express website) and it comes with your choice of Borderlands 3 or Outer Worlds & 3 months of XBOX Games Pass

    • Tried to redeem the Xbox one today and got the message that they had run out of codes and to contact support. Other game code worked fine though.

  • Great chip at a great price, can't see an application for gaming though, its overkill, a 6 core is the sweet spot, will be good to see games that use more than 8 threads, a few do use 12, can't think of any that use 16 though.

    • +1

Next-gen consoles being released later this year will have 8 core (16 thread) zen 2 cores. The same cores that are in the Ryzen 3000 series. Rest assured that next-gen games will start using a higher thread count than a 6 core cpu allows.

If you are a gamer buying now, 8 core or higher is definitely the way to go.

      • I'll believe it when I see it, at the moment on a budget you'd be allocating poorly to go beyond 6 cores, 6 allows you to game and a few extra to stream, right now though you're better off allocating to a better GPU instead. But if you're right by the time it matters there will be better 8 cores anyway, so can always go up to a Ryzen 4000 when that releases if that were true. Still hope you're right, just waiting for the proof. PS3 had more than 4 cores and look where we are.

        • What do you guys think I should use for my secondary system? I was able to get a 3900X from the FTC for my new primary system I am building, and reading through these responses in these various CPU topics, it seems I was darn lucky to actually receive the CPU. It took a good two weeks, but I did end up getting the CPU.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask what you guys would choose for a secondary system between 3700X (I'll only go with this if I can get one for a good price), 3600 or maybe a 2700X. Also, I'm trying to figure out how much better of a CPU a 3600 is over a 2700X. Is there any scenarios where a 2700X would win out? I'd assume the 3600 would be much better for gaming over a 2700X? I'm just finding it hard to want to go down to a 6 core CPU when I've had an 8 core for quite a while.

  • Just bought one yesterday and now my order is on hold :(
