  • Anyone recommend any good flavours for the whey protein?

  • +3

How is this compared to ON or BN?

    • better taste than BN but not as good as ON, imo.

  • +2

Dammit, less than $150 means the shipping is $20 :(

  • +1

Did they end up passing the bill that would make supplements fall under TGA guidelines? eg. most won't be able to be sold in Aus anymore…

  • Anyone taste??

  • -3

I would not buy them. Most (or all) products has artificial sweeteners. I got 2kgs from Bulk Nutrients.

    • +7

What do you think BN use for sweetening?

      • At the least, the one I have got was a natural sweetener.

        • +1

The answer you are looking for is sucralose.

          https://www.bulknutrients.com.au/products/whey-protein-conce…

Ultra Filtered Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC), Flavouring, Sweetener (Sucralose).
Chocolate based flavours (Chocolate, Choc Honeycomb, Peppermint Slice) contain cocoa.

          Weird.
          https://au.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/impact-whey-protei…

Chocolate Banana Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk) (91%), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Cocoa Powder, Flavouring, Sweetener (Sucralose)

          • @jjcf: They have another option though.

            https://www.bulknutrients.com.au/products/natural-australian…

            Chocolate flavour
100% Grass Fed Australian Whey Protein Concentrate, Natural Cocoa, Natural Sweetener (Stevia).

            Vanilla flavour

@Dienk: This is the weirdest hill to die on.

MP also have half a dozen flavours using stevia with stevia literally in the name.

Stevia Banana Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk) (96%), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Natural Flavouring, Colour (Curcumin), Sweetener (Steviol Glycosides)

Stevia Chocolate Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk) (91%), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Cocoa Powder, Flavouring, Sweetener (Steviol Glycosides)

Stevia Chocolate Mint Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk) (91%), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Cocoa Powder, Natural Flavouring, Sweetener (Steviol Glycosides)

Stevia Strawberry Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk) (96%), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Flavouring, Colour (Beetroot Red), Sweetener (Steviol Glycosides)

Stevia Vanilla Flavour: Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk) (96%), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Natural Flavouring, Sweetener (Steviol Glycosides)

              • @jjcf: True. I had to look into that to see those among the sucralose. Good to know they offer those options.

  • +4

Has anyone else noticed the drop in quality of their whey isolate over the past year (lacking flavour and foaming)?

  • I switched from ON to this a few years ago since it had a pretty good value rating on labdoors. Hard to beat at this price point and it tastes pretty good too.

  • +2

Even after the discount BN seems to be slightly cheaper for (5x 1kg protein) and creatine.

    • Concentrate or Isolate? For WPC it seems like the code brings 5kg bags down to $14.80 per kg versus $18+ per kg for BN.

      • Concentrate but I was looking at 1kg bags x5. Not one big 5kg bag of one flavour.

  • -1

I don't see the value if you have a cheap pharmacy nearby. Postage kills most of these for me. I consistently get the Mushashi 100% whey (900g) at good price pharmacy between $25 and $30. It tastes great and you won't find good whey isolate much cheaper.

    • +2

You need to order bulk and then you get free shipping and much better value. I bought 10kg for around $140

    • I don't see the value why would I pay $15/kg delivered for a huge selection when I can drive to the pharmacy and pay $30/kg for two flavours like do you even math bros? neg voting this 'deal'

      • -1

Not everyone buys in bulk and lives off of protein shakes lol. Also show me where you buy 1kg for $15 delivered. If not then your example is ridiculous. Your example requires a large purchase so you can't compare to a small quantity. If you know anything about nutrition, you're better off getting your protein from eggs anyway so why buy so much? I only go through a 900g tub every 2 to 3 months so I don't see the point in having huge amounts of it. I didn't neg the deal, I just don't see the value. Unless your willing to drop $150 or whatever for free shipping then you are better off buying locally imo. You can get protein much cheaper than what I get locally too so don't use my $25-$30 as an example when you're comparing what is probably low quality concentrate to high quality isolate. Don't go for isolate and get concentrate like most of the ones on that website are and you will find deals for $15/kg at some local store no worries lol. There is no need to be buying so much whey protein, it's a waste of money: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH8RsqjlS2o

        • Your example requires a large purchase so you can't compare to a small quantity.

Yes I can. One is $15, one is '$25-30'. See.

If you know anything about nutrition, you're better off getting your protein from eggs anyway

Why is that? Because whey has a higher bioavailability than whole eggs and, even moreso, egg whites.

But I guess the upside is that having a 4 egg white omlet pre and another 5 post lifting is super convenient.

so don't use my $25-$30 as an example when you're comparing what is probably low quality concentrate to high quality isolate

haha. Musashi 100% isn't WPI, champ. It's a blend. And has worse macros than a WPC.

          p/c/f per 100g
          Musashi 100% - 77/6/6
          MP WPC - 82/4/5

More fat. More carbs. Less protein. Tell me more about 'high quality', though. You clearly know what you are talking about.

But I guess a guy knocking over 2.5 serves a week really needs that 'high quality' WPI. Wouldn't wanna get too bulky.

          • -5

@jjcf: I know Mushashi is not 100% isolate, did I say that? No, you also can't compare because you cannot buy 1kg for $15 delivered, you have to buy multiple kg's for it to end up being that cost 🤦‍♂️. Is it that hard to understand? Whey is better than eggs? HAHAHA, watch the video made by a doctor, you obviously don't have a clue. Eating just egg whites is about as silly as it gets and you proved my point right there LMAO. "don't want to get too bulky" sounds like something a meat head would say. Eating egg whites too lol, I bet you wish you had a 6-pack.. You may as well say "you can't get bulky unless you eat heaps of whey" which is laughable. I don't have the time to argue with such nonsense, I'll take a doctor's info over a sarcastic commenter who compares a 900g cost to a multiple kg cost lol. Have fun with your reply, it won't be read 🤣

  • The maple protein pancakes tasted really artificial to me. Anyone have the same experience?

  • +1

you can use code BEMINE to get 45% off

  • Any products similar to future whey from BN?

    • Clear Whey

  • +2

All my protein is still within me. No one for Valentine's 😔

  • $20 shippings kills 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • Not if you order a bulk amount that equals $150 (after discounts).
If you "supersize" (5kg packet) you save more .
Also, if you order $100 shipping is only $9.99

      • Yeah I saw the other options but it’s kinda a big stretch. Can’t remember any other AU business charging that much for free shipping.

        • +1

It ships from the UK. Hence the higher shipping cost.

          • @nakey: I'm so dumb!! now that makes sense! Thanks for clarifying

  • Good products but the only time I ordered from them it took almost a month to get despatched, I had to contact them to finally get it sent out. I would have been more tempted by this if the free shipping threshold wasn't so high. Need to spend $50 just to break even with savings vs shipping.

  • +16

But seriously, why is protein and supplements so focused on catering to the palate of a 6 year old attending their first birthday party.
(profanity) chocolatehotdogcandycanefreddomilkshake flavoured protein to get you JACKED AND MANLY.
Just make shit thats drinkable and I don't feel like I'm sucking down a litre of liquid candy because I'm a baby who can't tolerate any other foods.

Its like PC gaming equipment. It's all crass and disgusting.

    • Couldn't agree more! The level of sweetness of all their flavours it just too much. I'm not drinking this shit to feel like I'm having a milkshake. I'm drinking it when I struggle to hit my protein intake for the day with real food.

Introducing our new protein powder flavour range; Pub Feedz! Featuring all your favourites:

      Steak Pie n chips

      • +1

        Would cop

      • Would smash nacho flavour ngl

    • The trick is to order the unflavored/natural stuff. There's no sweetener and it usually tastes like powdered milk.

I've tried most of the popular OzB brands and Myprotein WPC unflavoured is the best I've found so far for taste, texture and digestibility.

      • Might have to give it a try. I've tried a few brands that were advertised as flavourless but it always had some wierd underlying flavour of magnesium or otherwise metallic, definitely not flavourless, flavour.

Now I'm off to drink my strawberry milk with my huge friends.

        • WPI without flavouring can get a bit gnarly and some awful after taste, not all though. WPC tends to be pretty milky. There's quite a variation between brands for both types.

      • can't seem to find their WPC product, is it impact whey?

    • The simple answer.. sugar is addictive and people are more likely to buy it if it goes down easy.

Having said that.. I 100% agree with you and prefer to minimise my refined sugar intake.

  • Anyone noticed that prices on some products seem much higher now?

    • Happens every time there is a discount code such as this one.

  • +1

Thanks ordered 10kg plus one of their clear whey isolates. Free shipping free gifts plus through shopback which may not track due to code but possible 12%

If anyone want's 2.5kg vanilla for free message me (Just pay for shipping to you)

      • PM sent!

    • Anyone else for Brisbane, cart not yet full

  • Burning….just bought two nights before at 35% discount. I get the ISO: Pro Whey Protein. Strawberry flavour. Pretty decent taste.

  • +1

Anyone around Brisbane's northside I am trying to offload the following (Myprotein):

1x 5kg bag of Cookies & Cream Impact Whey Protein
1x 5kg bag of Strawberry Cream Impact Whey Protein
18x 25g Various Sachets of Impact Whey Protein

All unopened and only getting rid because I went plant-based at the beginning of the year.

    • How have you found the move (taste/results) and what are you taking and why?? Keen to hear feedback as I'm looking to grab plant based myself purely because it's less refined and easier for the body to process.

Sorry about the barrage of questions. Cheers 😊👍

      • Hey, sorry for the delayed reply. So far I have tasted the following:

        • Bulk Nutrients Earth Protein (Salted Caramel): The flavour was OK but just like their WPC, I found the mixability to be really poor and chunky but much better when blended in smoothies.

        • Vivo Alkaline Complete (Au Naturel): Mixed really well and was still pleasant even when shaken with water.

        • Myprotein Vegan Protein Blend (Coffee & Walnut): Mixed really well and great taste.

I've just placed an order through VPA also because I had a 20% off code so I can try the Choc Caramel out. Myprotein would be the pick of what I have tried but if you're adding to smoothies or well blended shakes they are all pretty decent so I'd choose based on value for money and ingredients, protein content. They are all somewhat gritty, some worse than others and really fine so the powder goes everywhere when scooping it. I didn't go with any Soy proteins due to consuming plenty of Soy already through lattes, tofu and tempeh during the week.

I feel 10x better since going plant-based and I'd never go back now. Combined with the above proteins I also use creatine mono and that's it for supps.

  • For those not sure what type of protein to take, I found this video helpful and informative myself.

As always, do your own research.. just sharing some useful content.

    https://youtu.be/pJJ02Ek1nIE

  • I tried their Gainer Protein a few months back. The scoop size is huge, like fills half a shaker, it tastes great but within a week after using it twice I broken out with pimples all over my face. I'm 34 and haven't had pimples since I was a teen. Stopped taking it and with 3 weeks my skin is good again, some would say perfect. 😉
Standby wpc and wpi seems good though and good value for money.

  • Myprotein knows ozbargainers are bunch of starved for love singles, so they used 'OZB' promocode instead of 'Love69' to not make them feel alone on Valentine's Day.

    kodos

  • Hey guys, I am underweight since born. I don't do much exercise before.
Can I take The Gainer and combine it with the gym to gain weight? or which one should I choose?

find your approximate total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), use calculate how much calories you need from food to have around a 500 cal surplus. Count the macros in the food you eat to see how close you are to the target, adjust your diet to hit that target. Google a gym program that works for you. Stick to it, weigh yourself regularly to calibrate how much you're eating.

Protein suppplements are useful but they should form part of a balanced diet. If you physically cannot eat enough to gain weight then consider the gainer but it's healthier to eat a balanced diet.

      GOMAD my brother.

      • AKA 4.5lOMAD.

  • Does anyone know how this mixes when heated? For example does it mix in well with hot oats or does it stay quite 'powdery'?

    • Think you will need to be more specific about which product you're talking about since they have quite a few.

      • Sorry, I was referring to their protein powders. Either their impact whey protein or why isolate

  • -4

This deal only make sense if you buy in bulk for the free shipping and there is no reason to buy so much whey protein. Eat more eggs, get more gains! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH8RsqjlS2o

  • This post mentions the deal expires in 2.5hrs, but when i try to use the ozb coupon code, it expired yesterday? There goes my $270 to $150 order. Can anyone advise?

    • Yeah looks like OP was misinformed or messed up the time, very disappointing :(

  • this coupon "OZB" has expired

  • Has anyone got their items yet? Tracker says my items still in UK…

    • Just recieved mine today.

      • Is the tracker accurate for you?

        • I didn't really check, i was away last week so i wasn't really paying attention. I got an email from Aus port this morning saying the delivery was coming.

          • @F-22: Okay thanks. I should check with myprotein then.

    • Mine landed in Aus today, so hopefully arrives this week.

    • Also arrived today which was within the original delivery time estimate.
Didn't realise these guys are owned by the Hut Group too.

      • good for you. mine estimated 22-26 but doesn't look like i'm getting it this week. Hopefully just the tracker not getting updated…. ran out of gainz powder last week.

  • Damn! I am now browsing their site and thought to check them on OzBargain to only realize there was this fantastic deal that I missed out. Hope another deal like this will be back again soon.

    • +1

35% off is pretty much their base price now, so 45% should come up again soon enough (and still much cheaper than optimum or the aussie BN/venom ones etc if you can buy enough to get free shipping). I think the 55% off sale occurred once or twice last year so that's the one to wait for.

      • They had 55% off sale? Woah! Yeah, I'll wait for another 45% off sale at least. Cheers
