IKEA - Rent Cheque - $15 off $100 Spend Voucher (Adelaide and Perth Only)

310

Just sign up to the IKEA email list and you get a $15 off voucher valid for a spend of $100 and over. I signed up and received the "rent cheque" by email in a couple of minutes. All vouchers are unique and valid for one transaction only. From the T & Cs, looks like you get one voucher sent each month. Validity of voucher is coinccidentally one month as well.

    What if you don't rent?

    • +3

They call it rent cheque because you supposedly rent them space to keep their catalogue in your home!!

    • +4

The gimmick is that they are paying rent on space in your home for their catalogue.
And if your home is the size of an Ikea display unit, that is valuable real-estate :-)

For me, the best thing about Ikea is their displays. They show you how to make the most of your space, even if you don't live in a 45m² flat like their display home. Great ideas for kitchen layout too.

      edit: too slow again!

      • Agreed. Their displays are great for getting ideas on what works, what doesn't.

The concept is, they are sending you the catalogue. The catalogue will take up space on your table. They say they are paying you some money for having their brochure there.

Although, the real concept is they are trying to get you to spend $85 or more buying $100 or more of their merchandise. :)

  • Signed up. Pretty good deal if you just want to spend $100. 15% off with no effort.

Anyone know if the $15 voucher can be used in the Swedish food store? The terms and conditions don't specifically mention it. Some special offers such as Eat Your Discount do not apply to the food store.

    • I don't know but I was wondering, what are you thinking of doing?

      Bringing friends/family?
      Take-away?

      Curious …

I was thinking of the food store as in Swedish groceries rather than the restaurant. It would be damn difficult to eat $100 worth of food all at once, even for a family.

          That's what i was thinking :P :)

  • There's an eat your discount coming up later in the year :)

    • +1

really? how you know? when exactly?

      • I have the 2012 catalogue.
December 12-16, 2011: Eat your Discount!

        Other offers:
Free delivery if you spend $250 or more: November 7-11, 2011
        Spend $250 get a $25 gift card: March 5-11

NOTE that all these are all from the NON-WA/SA catalogue.
They have their own special offers, all specific furniture items.
Might make a post when it's closer to the date

        • Does the free delivery count interstate?

  • thanks for this.. can get lost in IKEA Adelaide for hours

    • You can get lost in ikea period:p

had a look in their catalogue. their sofas are outrageous prices. where's all the supposed bargains?

    • +1

The prebuilt furniture is usually only reasonable value. The flat pack stuff you assemble yourself is where the good prices are.

When I was looking for a queen bed, Ikea had some 'okay' beds. However, I picked up a great leather/vinyl number from lecornu with a matress for $300. Added an expensive ($100ish) pillow top and It was right as rain.

Ikea seems cheap but you really get what you pay for, worth hunting around for reasonable quality that also has a resale value once your situation changes. Ikea has little.

  • Thanks for the great deal, I've signed up and received my first $15 cheque within minutes. And I will receive one every month. May not use them that often, but several family members are looking for new household items at the moment, the cheques may assist them also. If you go to Ikea Adelaide and see how many cars are in the carpark, thousands! And then see the loading bay where stacks of people load their bargains, obviously Ikea's goods appeal to a massive amount of people! Good food, a pleasant place to shop, if you can find your way out!

    why? Why no sydney? :(

East coast IKEA stores are owned by INGKA Holding, which is a Dutch registered foundation registered as a charity. Great tax breaks. IKEA SA/WA is owned by Cebas Pty Ltd, which is why the stores have different promotions even though they share the same brand.

      • oh.. if you put it like that

    • +1

mind you, check out the price difference on some items between east and west coast, more than 15% difference in some cases.

      ie, http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40207715 over east,
      and http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/products/40207715 west.

However good to see that some items have levelled out in price since the new catalogue.

  • Shame Ikea furniture is so hideous/cheap looking and such bad quality and over priced. I seriously don't get it, I think furniture from China looks better.

most of ikea's stuff is from china…..

Depends on the product line. My kitchen components came from Germany, Lithuania, Belarus, Czech Republic, Slovakia and China. The one guarantee you have is that nothing is made in Australia.

Does some IKEA merchandise look tacky? Sure. Not everything they produce is to my tastes. Their fabric sofas are quite poor in my opinion. But there's always something to like in store.

  • What happened to the Tundra laminate flooring? At $14/m² it was a bargain.
Was intending to use it in my new house, but it has gone from the website and catalogue.
Eastern states still have the cheaper SLÄTTEN flooring, but WA has nothing.

I see some prices have come down over the last couple of years, but overall nothing like the way the AUD has gone up, and other imported goods have dropped in price.

    • I intended to use it in my new house too, in about 8 months time. It's quite durable and the price was great. IKEA Adelaide still had plenty of stock last time I was there. If the product line is gone I may have to stock up. Hopefully it'll be replaced by something just as good.

TUNDRA was made in Germany, and as the Euro versus Australian dollar hasn't changed in the last couple of years we don't benefit there from the stronger Australian dollar.
