[Unobtainable Deal] Holden Final Run Out Sale: Trax ~$13,000, Equinox ~$20,000 + More

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Important stuff from the link

The Holden Trax city SUV is almost half price, with discounts ranging from $10,000 to $11,000, bringing this $23,990 model to the bargain price of about $13,000

The mid-size Holden Equinox is also a flat rate $10,750 off, or about a third off the price of the base model, bringing it from a bit over $30,000 drive-away to close to $20,000 drive-away.

The Holden Acadia seven-seat family SUV is between $11,500 and $17,000 off, between a quarter and one-third off the price of the car.

The cheapest discount is on the Holden Commodore – $7500 off – while the Astra hatch and sedan that were also discontinued last year have a flat rate of $8500 off to about $12,000 drive-away for the base models.

Additional Info (Thanks Techie4066):

Discounts on driveaway costs. All stock in remaining dealerships is expected to be depleted well before the end of 2020, with some dealers expecting to close by the end of financial year (June 30). Expected discounts from the start of March according to dealer bulletin (subject to change):

Holden Colorado (ute) - $13,000 to $17,500 off
Holden Trax (small SUV) - $10,000 to $11,000 off (down to ~$13,000 driveaway)
Holden Acadia (large seven seat SUV) - $11,500 to $17,00 off
Holden Commodore (liftback/tourer/sportwagon) - $7,500 off
Holden Astra (hatch/sedan) - $8,500 off (down to ~$12,000 base model driveaway)
Holden Equinox (medium SUV) - $10,750 off (down to ~$20,000 base model driveaway)

Opinions vary on these vehicles, but do jump on them if you have been in the market and are happy with what's available. Holden will provide servicing and spare parts for the next ten years (through a national aftersales network), ongoing call centre support, will issue recalls where necessary, and will honour existing warranties, guarantees and free scheduled servicing offers.

Mod: Article/bulletin lists the prices as drive away, but the pricing is not final and may be subject to change. As always, the deal may be removed (unobtainable) in the future, if it does not go ahead as (or close to) advertised/listed. Minor changes will be updated.

Mod: The deal become largely unobtainable. See comments. Moved to forums.

      • If the closest dealership to the postcode you put in has stock, it normally shows the price.

        • +1

It used to, not any more.
They have loads of Colorado's in the yard, heaps on their website but the Holden build and price system just says "Contact your local dealer for pricing and availability".

Kiato got an Equinox LTZ-V for $31,750 drive away. Anyone else got it for a similar price? If so, which dealer?

    • Geez, that's a fantastic price. Just make sure you run it to the ground

      • How about an Equinox black ed summit white for $27k?

  • Went to 2 holden dealers in the Sydney west.

1 straight out said they've sold out of the Trax, the other had only 1 LS and wanted $22K which I did not think was a great deal for the car.

Below $20k for the LT maybe but not for the LS which was on runout before the closing at $26K driveaway with 7 years worth of free servicing.

    Maybe I'm being unrealistic

  • I was told all sold out

  • +8

Was quoted 33k for 2020 Astra RSV in Canberra. I said good luck and left.

    • LoL

  • +6

Called 11 dealer on Thursday for Trax and Acadia. About 50% of the dealership has no stock. They were getting the last allotment from HQ on Thursday morning. Those with stock cannot beat $21k for Trax LT and $23k for LTZ. I went in physically to 2 dealers ship, their principal dealer came out to shook my hands and say they can’t do it. When I tell them I’m getting 3 cars. On sat, went into a dealer for Acadia Ltz V , they say anyone that can offer $49k for it must be making a loss. Had a long chat to that dealer. Sat there for about 2 hours, many came in for equinox, no stock. Trax by the end when I’m leaving 2 left. They are almost sold out. He sold me his computer screen so I believed him.. lol. Regarding the Uber fleet paying full deposit for new car, apparently Holden ran a promotion before the closure news for Uber driver for like $23,999 for Astra n Trax. It was a great price at that time and many order one. Those who took the car before the news cannot return the car. Those we paid deposit cancelled the deal. Went to 2nd dealer that offer $49k, they are bringing or swapping to Kia dealership as early as next week. What’s available on showroom are all sold. Those in transit, they have like 5 cars left to sell..

    • Did you ask what was the best price for Equinox LTZ-V?

      • No. Was not eying for the model hence did not ask.

    • -2

      $23,999 for Astra n Trax

Sorry don't understand what you mean by this, are you saying that its 24K for both cars, or 24K each?

      • Obviously $24K each.

    • $23,999 for an Astra is not a good deal. They had it cheaper before xmas for everyone.

      • No idea what’s in the package but was told a lot of Uber driver placed order for that campaign. Then came the closure news. I guess that when the ‘news’ got mixed and said price already drop Uber driver are snapping up cars .. might have motivated a lot of ppl to go look. Now it’s more of you want a car you might not get one.

        • There wasnt much stock of Astra before the article leak as it was already discontinued so people obviously paid more than they should have so they wouldn't miss out.

    • I managed to get a Trax LTZ for $22,500 on Friday. Got them to add mats, mud flaps, window tinting and headlights protectors for that price. Only problem was no choice in colour

  • Went in today for an Astra today, there was no chance of any deal under 20k guess this was either a false leak, or prices really were subject to change.

    • People have been getting $17-18K for Astra so it is possible.

The leak was real, the discounts were correct but the drive away prices were wrong. It also said that dealers didnt have pass on the full discount. That is why it was a leak of a confidential bulletin. You probably could have got a better deal if the leak never happened because of the amount of people it got thinking about buying a car when they wouldn't have.

Many dealers have sold out so people have paid whatever they asked.

  • +16

I think the leak is intentional so it can generate huge publicity, well played Holden …..

    • +1

Completely agree. Not a deal, just free marketing.

      • Agree, negging this deal

  • +3

Was looking for a trax under 15k

Thank you thread for saving my time.

  • +4

yeah same thing, I am in Vic and can't find astra under 21k and trax under 22k both base models. Dealer said that discounts would be on retail price, not driveaway price or something.

Any ways so the discounts as in the post were either fake or dealers did not pass over the full discounts to consumers.

    • +2

ironic how last week there were 4-5 for sale in Vic dealers on carsales for $18990

    • Discounts are real, the dealers you dealt with didnt appear to pass on full savings. Astras went for 17-18K or less which is the full discount off full price.

They seem to have jacked up prices after realising just how many people were happy to pay $19K.

  • +2

My 2 local dealers (Wollongong NSW) are both quoting substantially more than I was hoping for a LTZ Trax.

One quoted $27.5k, the other $26k.

Was hoping to score 1 for $20k or thereabouts (maybe a touch more if they threw in extras), but in the end it saves me cash as I don't need a new car anyways.

  • +1

I'll stick to Toyota. Nice try, Holden.

  • +2

Was quoted today 19550 for base model trax with no further discount. Given the rrp was around 25000 before discounts which included 5 years free service (which this doesnt) , its hardly any discount at all. IMHO the car looks cheap compared to hyundai kona or even MGZS so ill shift my attention to one of those. 7 year warranty from a dealer who will still be around then. Well at least one of those will be.

    • +1

Trax rrp is 26490 plus on road costs. You were given the 10K discount mentioned in the article.

      • They clearly said it was a $5500 doscount from RRP. .. either way, where do youcget 10k from?

        • Full price is this
          MSRP Trax LS auto 26490
Stamp duty in NSW 3% $795
          Rego 377
          CTP approx 440
          Typical dealer delivery "charge" $2K.
          Total $30,100.

Factor in 10K discount mentoned in article on Trax LS $16490
          Stamp duty $495
          Rego 377
          CTP approx 440
          Typical dealer delivery "charge" $2K.
          Total $19,800

          • @8azinga: They told me as of Feb 25000 is rrp retail, drive away, minus topical discounts of $2000.

            • @richieisnow: As of Feb, Holdens discounted price was $25K drive away. That's what Holden were advertising because they were offering discounts back then. It doesnt change the full MSRP.

I dont know who 'they' are but it is extremely hard to believe that a dealer would intentionally tell you incorrect information that the RRP had dropped to $25K. If anything, MSRP would have gone higher in 2020. The Astra RSV MSRP went from 31740 to 32990 for MY19 to MY20.

  • +1

What is the good drive away price for Holden Equinox?

    • Depending on the model, I think $25k is ok for the basic LS

      • Yeah the basic LS model. So $25K, not $20K as the ad suggests?
How much is for the Special black?
        Thanks.

        • I don't think you can get an Equinox base model for less than $25k. I got a black ed for $27k.

          • @MiaSanMia: Black Ed $27K, does that include Comprehension insurance?

            • @congo: It's driveaway price, no extra accessories. Re Insurance, it includes Compulsory CTP

  • I'm curious to know what price people are seeing for the Colorado, in particular either the Z71 or the storm?

I did look at them a few months back and super happy I didn't purchase one, but now… might be worth driving one into the ground.

    • Best I was offered a week or so ago was 44k DA for an LTZ. Auto, colour didn't matter. I passed, waiting for a better deal. At the time he said they could do a great deal on LS-X but it's too "workhorse" for me. Think it was about 35k.

I've heard of Z71's going to similar money as my LTZ offer (low to mid 40's) and there's a few on carsales at 46k DA. I think that's good value but if I can snag an LTZ under 40k I will.

  • +2

I went to a holden dealer yesterday, the salesperson said that they've seen surge in demand, he has stacks of orders to process (then he shows me several paperwork). He quoted me a 2020 Astra R for 20990 + 500 for metallic paint. He added on that offers people were giving him were ridiculous (15k), and the manager will not accept any offer lower than what is written there on the sheet. The leak is not correct apparently. I walked away.

The funny thing is, they should have known about their cars will only attract demand when the price is right. They wouldn't be in this position now if it wasn't the case. Now that they are in run-out, they have this idea that it's a seller's market since there is a set amount of supply to sell.

Sorry, I'll spend my hard earned money elsewhere.

    • +7

getting a car in vic that was selling new from some dealers at $19k, for $21k+ let alone from a company that wont be around shortly, add in service uncertainity, higher depreciation, lower product quality in the first place, is stupid for me, but if other people want to pay it, and it seems there are enough to sell out, thats up to them,

why anyone would want to pay the same price before the announcement when they couldnt sell their products, to flying off the shelf….

      FOMO syndrome at its best

      • +3

Agree. Some smoke and mirror, "leaked" email to create media hype, bringing the mass to the dealers looking for "bargains", customers then told stocks are limited (funny how dealers are so ready to show their "purchase" prices on their system and other customers orders), FOMO… hook, line and sinker.

  • How much discount to expect for Demo Equinox LS?

  • I'm almost certain the discounts will be off full rrp drive away. So prices mentioned in post are unrealistic.

  • +1

So did anyone manage to get an Astra for around $12K or was that a pipe dream?

I looked online but prices did not move from last week or they ask you to go in.

Is the new Commodore really that bad compares to the Aussie made one?

    • +2

Astra prices- I think it was a pipe dream mate

As for New Commodore Vs Aussie Commodore- the new Commo is leaps and bounds a better product, from build quality, interior design, engine efficiency and niose, harshness, vibration (NVH).

      • You are delusional if you think the new ‘Commodore’ (A Vectra) is a better car than the last Australian built Commodore. It’s a much smaller front wheel drive sedan, with a much weaker engine. There’s a reason why no one bought them.

        • front wheel drive sedan, with a much weaker engine.

engine size isnt everything, hence why they didnt sell..

          they said
"interior design, engine efficiency and niose, harshness, vibration (NVH)"

          • @SBOB: There was nothing wrong with the last generation Commodore NVH. There’s no way to spin in, the car that replaced the Australian built Commodore was a pig. This guy is just wrong.

        • Well fk me, I didn't take you for a VF fan!
          (I did like the Sportwagons)

          • @spackbace: I’m not. But a real Commodore is obviously a much better car than a rebadged Vectra.

    • Journalist put the wrong drive away prices so it was never achievable.
Article was later edited so today it qasnt right

The discount of $8500 mentioned for Astra in the article was given in full. Some early customers got s bigger discount.

  • Just rang the Zetland Holden dealership in Syd to ask about the Astra. Was told they sold out a week ago and the sale price for the base model was around $19k!

Revoking my vote. What a waste of our time..

    • They only had a couple to begin with and got sold quickly as you can see their stock online.

    • -5

Wasn't a waste of my time :P I went in before these "deals" and picked up an Astra at a good price with the 7 years free servicing. I guess most people thought they were going to get a car for virtually nothing and waited while genuine buyers knew there was already a deal to be had.

I think there was maybe a bit of reverse FOMO going on where people didn't want to see their vehicle offered at substantially less only a week or two later.

      • Care to share what you consider to be a "good price" for the Astra?

This post said Astra can be had below 13k but as most have pointed out, this has been mostly false or/and bait advertising

  • Called a dealer yesterday. Felt like there are limited stock and they are holding/ quoting ‘rrp discount prices’ instead of a realistic price to get rid of them. Ie $50 + ish for Acadia LTZ V.

    • Low $50k for an Acadia LTZ-V is quite cheap. Previous deals around $55k for 2WD, $59.5k for AWD

  • +10

Sales down by 64% in February. I can't see the "surge in demand" these Holden dealers keep talking about…

    • And they're still trying to scam unsuspecting buyers with this bate and switch so-called sale. Hell no!

    • The deals started in March. And a lot of contracts signed before March after the leak were dated for March for pickup after March.

We'll see the figures next month but even then, since dealers have been lowering stock for a long time, they might not have the stock to beat last years figures but who knows.

      • would be hilarious if they couldnt even beat their previous years figure even with the discounts and FOMO articles

        • Considering they don't have much stock on hand, it wouldnt be hard to believe. You can't beat last years figure if they dont even have stock. Looking at dealership websites, I saw some dealers with less than 10 cars in stock or in transit the day the leak occurred. One dealer had 4 cars in total.

  • +2

Great special. After some hard negotiating managed to snag an Acadia LTZ AWD new but 2019 plated for $38990. Understand the depreciation will be nasty, however given the alternatives in the same class are around the 60 mark could not say no.

    • Which state are u from?

    • Which dealer did you get this from?
The best I could get in SA was $37000 for an LT 2wd

      • We managed a LT 2wd for 36k drive away in County nsw

    • News to me that that is a bargain price !
Bear in mind latest data show car sales have slumped so they should be out there :)

      Next anyone got a bargain?

    • Next anyone got a bargain?

LTZ AWD at $38990? I got LT AWD at $38015 without stamp duty through a buyer's agent, that is almost exactly 40k drive-away (with stamp duty and buyer agent fee, not counting rego). Looks like you got a great deal!

I was sourcing mine in VIC/NSW. Maybe buyers are not competitive in QLD. I know buyers are competitive here because, before I engage a buyer's agent, I called up several dealers in NSW and none gave me a quote (some said they sold all). I believe the dealers were either not eager to sell, or that they were still gauging my budget and can't guess it out on the phone.

On the Contract, I got about $10K discount. I guess it's from RRP, so RRP must be $49K, which matches my impression before the sale.

    • 39k DA for an Acadia LTZ AWD is a good price. Seems another 10k for a 2020 plated car is the going rate.

All the best deals on carsales seem to be in QLD.

      • Does it mean all cars arriving are considered 2020 plated ?

        • There may have been some 2019 MY20 stock in holding yards but more than likely anything still to arrive will be 2020 plated MY20 cars.

The dealers will tell you there's no stock available but there were still cars on boats last week. No idea when they'll actually stop coming.

I don't think dealers will have trouble moving stock but there will be some good buys available if you keep in contact with multiple dealers.

          • @whitelie: I’m getting some dealer telling me Holden cars are still been made as of now. Delivery in July.

            • @FerBargain: I'd believe that. They wouldn't have stopped production overnight on the announcement.

There would likely be a delay in stock levels due to the surge in demand but there will still be some on the way.

    • Best price I can get in WA for the same is $49K D/A.

    • Good Deal. I have been eyeing off getting an Acadia LTZ AWD over in WA. Haven't had time to get down to a dealer in person but made a few calls and they are holding firm ie $50k drive away for the LTZ AWD. One dealer here has a 18 demo LTZ AWD with 6,000 kms on it and asking $50k. I put in an enquiry to see if they would come down to $40k and the manager had a go a me saying the car owes him $48k and where is he going to find the missing $10k from. Lost interest now…

      • +1

Did you tell him to check under the seat cushions?
I'm sure that's where he left his $10k

        • Only way i'd be buying would be if there was $10k left in there under the cushions

      • he can find them in centrelink benefits, for when he is out of a job

    • Can you message me the dealer ship and sale person? Thank you

  • I felt it was a good price, however I have noticed over the last 24 hours a lot of 2020 Acadia vehicles in transit on dealer sites. Would not be surprised if we see further price drops especially after the hysteria wears off. A lot of super keen buyers myself included went ape and purchased it won't be like this going forward, and it looks like Holden have just taken a new delivery of product. My advise would be hold off and yes I'm having a little bit of buyer remorse.

    • Which sites did u use to check that out?

    • My advise would be hold off and yes I'm having a little bit of buyer remorse

I would have total lack of remorse if I can get an Acadia LTZ AWD new for $38990 (even 2019)

      • Got quote $49k for Acadia ltz v last week for 2019 plated. ( sold again) Today got quoted $54 for 2020 plated. Face palm. All dealers singing the same story = Holden reduce their discount.

  • -3

can anyone let me know which dealers will selling at these price?

    Holden Trax (small SUV) - $10,000 to $11,000 off (down to ~$13,000 driveaway);

    Holden Astra (hatch/sedan) - $8,500 off (down to ~$12,000 base model driveaway);

    Holden Equinox (medium SUV) - $10,750 off (down to ~$20,000 base model driveaway);

      suggest you read the comments,

    • +2

Try Trumps Twitter under the section of fake news .
Was a deliberate guerrilla advertising campaign leaking incorrect prices to try and create a buying frenzy to basically sell vehicles over where the normal market price would be .
Still my call would be the last couple of months prior to the new financial year is where some true bargains possibly could be found .

    • +3

None. The prices from the article are bogus, made up by JD - Only second in fake news to Trump.
Discounts are off RRP, not the previously discounted prices.
