[Unobtainable Deal] Holden Final Run Out Sale: Trax ~$13,000, Equinox ~$20,000 + More

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Important stuff from the link

The Holden Trax city SUV is almost half price, with discounts ranging from $10,000 to $11,000, bringing this $23,990 model to the bargain price of about $13,000

The mid-size Holden Equinox is also a flat rate $10,750 off, or about a third off the price of the base model, bringing it from a bit over $30,000 drive-away to close to $20,000 drive-away.

The Holden Acadia seven-seat family SUV is between $11,500 and $17,000 off, between a quarter and one-third off the price of the car.

The cheapest discount is on the Holden Commodore – $7500 off – while the Astra hatch and sedan that were also discontinued last year have a flat rate of $8500 off to about $12,000 drive-away for the base models.

Additional Info (Thanks Techie4066):

Discounts on driveaway costs. All stock in remaining dealerships is expected to be depleted well before the end of 2020, with some dealers expecting to close by the end of financial year (June 30). Expected discounts from the start of March according to dealer bulletin (subject to change):

Holden Colorado (ute) - $13,000 to $17,500 off
Holden Trax (small SUV) - $10,000 to $11,000 off (down to ~$13,000 driveaway)
Holden Acadia (large seven seat SUV) - $11,500 to $17,00 off
Holden Commodore (liftback/tourer/sportwagon) - $7,500 off
Holden Astra (hatch/sedan) - $8,500 off (down to ~$12,000 base model driveaway)
Holden Equinox (medium SUV) - $10,750 off (down to ~$20,000 base model driveaway)

Opinions vary on these vehicles, but do jump on them if you have been in the market and are happy with what's available. Holden will provide servicing and spare parts for the next ten years (through a national aftersales network), ongoing call centre support, will issue recalls where necessary, and will honour existing warranties, guarantees and free scheduled servicing offers.

Mod: Article/bulletin lists the prices as drive away, but the pricing is not final and may be subject to change. As always, the deal may be removed (unobtainable) in the future, if it does not go ahead as (or close to) advertised/listed. Minor changes will be updated.

Mod: The deal become largely unobtainable. See comments. Moved to forums.

  • Will be interesting to see what prices they clear out the Commodores at. At a reasonable (read: cheap) price, a V6 AWD Commodore RS or RS-V could be a worthwhile endeavour.

Have you ever wanted to buy a bridge and charge people for using it? I'm moving to Timbuck Two next month, so for this month only I have a sale on a bridge. It normally costs $40 million dollars but for this month only if you can scrounge together $40,000 it's all yours. I guarantee you that if something goes wrong my company that no longer exists will fix it for the next 10 years. Contact me on 1-800-NOLONGERHERE to take up this special offer.

I went in to Holden City North (Osborne Park, WA) today after phoning about the Trax, and was told the following:

    1. Base model 'sold out'/unavailable in Western Australia
    2. "a handful" of cars are held by dealers in the Eastern States, however they are clinging on to them
    3. there has been "misinformation" about the pricing discounts in the media
    4. the best price we can do is $18,670 (~25% discount off RRP)

So I walked, saying we will see how desperate you are for sales in 1-3 months time. And said will follow them up, which I will.

They of course countered with "this is a massive saving, we will sell out, you are missing out and there will be nothing left -in my opinion- come one month let alone three"

I let them know Im happy to sit on my cash until then.

      That's pretty much it isn't.

I wasn't considering a Holden before, so it needs to be an outrageous deal for me to even consider it now. The only value they have now is due to how much you would save buying one. If Holden salesmen still want to haggle (or basically see how much they can squeeze out of me), the incentive to buy one is immediately gone.

I'd rather hang on to my money, and pay $5k more for a Kia or Hyundai instead of play games with a Holden employee.

    • Sounds like you were pretty harsh on the salesman.. it’s not his fault Holden are gone.

    • I still think the LTZ for low 40's is better value. Carpet, leather, heated seats, tub liner etc…I mean the LS-X is a good, cheap workhorse but the LTZ is a fair bit nicer.

Been to local dealer shop in the morning [SA]. Dealer was aware of fire discount is coming up on March.

Acadia LT model is currently $44,990 which is already a promo deal. It will be $38,500(drive away, ORC) from 1st of March. So basically about $11,000 is discounted from MRRP. It seems like it is a good deal but still expensive considering upcomimg depreciation.

Dealers who did not know about this are fake. Our local dealer said that this came from Holden head office, so the price would be the same in AU.

Attention! There is a trap. There will be NO 7 years free service which cost $2,150. Also it is not 7 years factory warranty, but 5 years.

Now its up to you ozbargainer.
No more spare, once its gone its gone.

    • Was it the 2wd of AWD LT?

      • 2wd LT

        • It is already $38,650 https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2019-holden-acadia-…

I'm only calculating an approx $8415 saving over full undiscounted price.
Acadia 2WD LT MSRP is $42490+ORC according to Wheels magazine. It could be $43,490 though. Add on $1640 (stamp duty), $785 registration and CTP, $2000 for dealer delivery and you get to $46,915.
Im sure there are come other small costs involved for number plates etc to calculate the full price but not a huge amount. Unless i have missed something

Given the discount in the article said $11,500 to $17,00 off, i think it could be better.

        • Yes, the dealer said that I could buy the car with $38,500, but only if I took the car on the 1st of March. The carsales that you replied is probably the same.

I think that is just the official price from head. It is just a beginning, we will see how much drop.

        • +1

Down to $36,888 so around a 10K discount now.

          https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2019-Holden-Acadia-…

Your salesman if telling you BS.

    • I think they are going to struggle to sell even at that new price unless it is to the uninformed who don't know the depreciation hit these cars will take.

    • Holden sold the Thailand factory to Great Wall. I don't believe Colorado's reselling value will be any good

    • +1

Without 7 years free service, there is only $4,130 difference. You couldve negotiated the price with dealers(at least 1-2k with free tinting and other free accessories), if it was a normal situation.

That makes only less than $2,000 difference, which might be a good deal for someone, but obviously not for OZ bargainers.

    • @lifeoz - Which dealer in SA did you visit? I'm looking to contact a few and it would be good to know who is acknowledging the discounts.

  • +2

Great discussion guys - i appreciate the links. I decided to wait some more and maybe in 2022/24 for an upgrade. My old Honda just need to survive until that.

    • +3

it might still outlast a holden! :)

    • -4

I hope it lasts till 2024, A engineering friend gave me a great tip to save on brake rotors, go on the free way to about 110kms per hour then brake sharply to machine the rotors yourself, best to do it on a quiet free way! saved me about 600 on rotors for 4 years

      • +4

he forgot to tell you about brake pads wear and tear percentage with that approach

      • +4

Wont machine them, wont keep them free of distortions. Its like saying revving an engine hard before you dismantle means you dont need to hone the cyl when replacing rings.

You dont need new rotors everytime if you get to the pads before they metal to metal. Ie: regular maintenance with inspections of pad material… or at least listen for the noise when the little streamers hit the discs telling you the pads are low. Just machine them with every pad change to get the best from the new pads, or second set at least, can even be done on the car nowadays. If youre a late (hard) braker, even if you go through pads, do it every pad change.

      • +2

Big lols - what he advised you to do may cause pad glazing on the disc which can only be removed by machining.

Vauxhall-Opel based models like Commodore/insignia and Astra could be good value.

Opel Vauxhall models will not cause too much difficulty since GM sold Vauxhall Opel to PSA group (Peugeot Citroen) and continue making cars in

My dad has a 2005 Astra AH wagon and has sourced parts online from European eBay sites anyway.e.g. a coil pack for $60 when Holden dealers would try to flog the same part for $350.

  • +6

OK so the latest info I got my the dealer was that there is a corporate meeting at 10am on Friday and that's when the official prices and information will be released.
The dealerships that are currently discounting are purely speculating what sort of discount will actually be provided from Holden and hedging their bets. As such I'd expect lower prices next week than this week.
    Happy hunting!

  • Anyone know what John Cadogan's take on this is? I works be interested to hear! 🤔

  • Just having a snoop and there is a dealer selling a 2017 Entry Astra with 70k for $18000

god, thats going to hurt once the sales start

  • I cant see anywhere the prices being ~13k, can someone post a link?

    • It hasn’t started yet

I like how people are saying it's a trap , they be struggling to sell it. etc.

9 pages of wise comments from Toyota keyboard worriers.

After seen Masters sales, people clean the shelf for 10% off the shelf price.

I dought there be any cars left before March and this is a good deal if you manage to get one on this fire sale price and not selling for next 10+ years.

  • I dun believe it.

  • -6

All Trax, Equinox and Acadia base models sold out with Uber drivers paying full deposits to pickup in March. No further negotiations or discounts on base models. Try mid-high trim versions of these cars for a better chance.

    • You know this how?

Just went past the local dealer. They looked to have tons of unregistered stock. I could only see sold stickers on two. Think people saying stock is walking out the door are falling for sales staff BS…

I have a question for car experts

Ignoring the warranty, holden withdrawing factors

    From purely technical perspective

How does a astra compare with similar spec cars from other brands

Eg corolla, mazda 2/3, honda jazz( yes its not quite the same),

    • +4

Why listen to the keyboard "experts"? Here's a recent comparison from the industry "experts" https://www.caradvice.com.au/756554/2019-small-car-compariso…

      • Excellent review, thx
astra does stack up quite nicely, except the interior

        • +1

Bottom 3 out of 10 cars which include the VW golf, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Kia Cerato, Hyundai i30, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Holden Astra, Peugeot 308, Subaru Impreza.

Strong engine performance (only from the 1.6L turbo in higher spec models, not the R base model) and handling are positives. Negatives would be interior, build quality. Next time you are at a dealer, notice the door handles dont feel solid. They seem loose and can be wiggled up and down. At least on the one I looked at.

          • +1

@8azinga: you sound like my mum/wife, trying to persuade me not to buy a holden at any price :)

            • @Samsungnote10: Truth though. It seems like you are looking at an R with the lower powered 1.4L engine.
This means handling is the only positive which majority of drivers dont notice at normal road speed.
The comparison tested the RSV model and the base model has an even poorer interior.
It would need to be about $16K or less for an R to make up for those shortcomings IMO.

              • @8azinga: yeah spot on, i know my reasoning is going to be a bit silly, but looking at the astra, because looking for a new car, that gets from a to b, compared to 2nd hand,
not fussed about speed or power as long as its sufficient, as long as im not going to have any extra major issues if I purchased a diff brand
like the idea of a new car, because no issues, sure resale is going to suck but happy to keep it for 10 years

currently looking at the Honda jazz for $17k drive away, dont care about the colour as long as its not pink,

hence my previous question of do you actually get a $23k value car for say $17k if I bought it tomorrow?
hence, he $12-$13k (theoretical) price point attracted me!

                • @Samsungnote10: I dont think a base model astra is worth $23K. At $16-17K, i think it is decent value.

Compared to a Jazz, it just depends on your needs as it is in a different class. For me, i would get an Astra over a Jazz but that is because i find anything smaller than a 3, golf, astra size just too small.
Jazz may have better build quality and reliability, but is much slower, less space. Jazz may be a little better on fuel, but it depends on how you drive it.

                  • @8azinga: Good point .
Storage doesnt really bother me either, fuel economy not too much fuss unless its a v8

But yes was looking for feedback on actual quality:)
                    Appreciate it
In my eyes, theyre much of a muchness on paper

                    Similar shape, size etc.

Contacted pretty much every Holden Dealership in NSW, Trax models are all listed as $19,990 for the stock LS model. Price will definitely go lower, and every dealership talks about forfeiting the free servicing and collection after March 1 for the discounted price.

All of the positive experiences have been from physically visiting stores, calls and emails have all been quite terrible interactions (assume they're being bombarded with tons of people like me currently)

When 13k price is mentioned, sales reps are deflecting it with by saying that people are just misunderstanding the discounts. When asked if they can confirm that no cars have been sold between 13-15k they keep their mouth shut and do a politician's dance around the question. Worth going in and seeing the dealers, offering 13k and walking away. Keep in touch with your dealers

    • I actually got quoted the cheapest price over the phone from one dealer and also went in to another ready to buy if i got the changeover figure which they didnt accept. They figured they'd be able to sell the car to someone else at a higher price, which i believe they can.

People will buy them at that price before they go any lower. Someone purchased an Astra R $16990 which is about a 38% discount off the full price drive away price

$19990 is around a $10K discount off full price though but i can see it going about $2k lower before they run out of stock.

      • All official Holden documentation I've seen from before this sale lists the RRP as between 23990 and 25990, I've rever seen it at that 30k figure, so a 10k discount on that would bring it between 14-16k. Will definitely be hard to find stock to sell at a lower price but 100% possible

        • I'm not sure where you got your prices from but the MSRP for a Trax LS auto is $26490 + on road costs.
The RRP's you have seen are likely the drive away prices that already have smaller discounts involved. You can't even see the MSRP before on road costs on the holden website as they factor in on road costs and current discounts.

    • I wouldn't buy a Trax for $5k, let alone $13k. Easily the worst new car I have ever driven. An embarrassment for the brand.

  • -1

Anyone bought anything? I bought the Acadia LTV Z 2wd for $49k on the weekend without doing any research ( regretting now) . After reading all the comments above I’m second guessing myself. What is the cooling period and conditions like?

      Found the wood duck.

The general population of Australia ladies and gentlemen.

This is why there will be no bargains to be had.

    • A quick search on carsales shows $51,500 before haggling.

    • Did you mean the LTZ V which retails 10K more than the LTZ? IF so then it's not too bad for the price.

      • LTZ V. The top end model.

        • RRP is $63,990 so you got a pretty good D/A deal there…

        • +2

Full price around the $68K drive away mark I believe.

Looks like you have gotten about the full discount in the article of $17K.

          MSRP $63,490
          Minus $17,000
          Stamp Duty $1425
          CTP approx 440
          Rego - 474+67
They havent added the usual dealer delivery charge
          Total $48,896

          • +3

@8azinga: I feel better now. Thanks .. lol

          • @8azinga: How much would you pay for Trax mid ( half leather seat) and top ( full leather seat) model? Sorry I don’t model. Can’t get my head to remember theM.

            • @FerBargain: I wouldnt touch a Trax but here is how i would work it out.

MSRP Trax LS auto = 26,490
              MSRP Trax LT = 28,890
              MSRP Trax LTZ = 30,490

Discount from article suggests $10-11K. I'm assuming $10K for base model, $11K for LT & LTZ.
So full price minus holden discount works out to be about the following

              LS Auto 26490-10000 + 495 Stamp duty + 377 Rego + 440 CTP + dealer delivery $2000 = $19,802
              LT 28890-11000 + 537 Stamp duty + 377 Rego + 440 CTP + dealer delivery $2000 = $21,244
              LTZ 30490-11000 + 585 Stamp duty + 377 Rego + 440 CTP + dealer delivery $2000 = $22,892

These are prices for NSW. Other states stamp duty, rego and ctp vary a little. There are also other small costs involved in the 'full' price such as number plates but these are insignificant.

It would need to be an extra 5% off those prices for it to be even considered a deal IMO. Bear in mind, Holden is giving them the discount so if you pay those prices above, you are essentially paying full price for the car from the dealers profits perspective. The dealer delivery charge is basically just free profit for them too.

For the Trax, these discounts are over 30% off which makes them ok given resale will be rubbish.

In the case of your Acadia, its only a 28% discount off so you are likely losing money by the time you sell/trade it later on compared to if you purchased a different, more popular car with a RRP of $68K drive away.
Did you watch the John Cadogan youtube video posted here that explained this?

    • You could have gotten it for 43k. 49k is just 2k better than a discount you couldve gotten even when Holden wasn't going under

  • Can OP/mods please change the prices with the new facts. These deals are not actually true and the author backed off the original statements. Thanks

    • +1

FYI You have to officially report the deal/post if you want mods to look at it, they don't go around reading every comment.

    • Guess we'll see if this remains as a 'deal' or in the forums in 6 days time…..

  • can you trade in your old car as well?

    • Would be interesting to hear what they offer on a 2-3 year old Holden as a trade LOL

    • +1

Just make sure to get it valued at several places before so you know what you can get.

  • Holden new car salespersons are holdin' on to their margins. I'm not seeing discounting but maybe my query is too early? If you're a new car buyer in March 2020 you're probably looking at these reported discounts. Other car makers sales will tank in March whilst Holden liquidates their stock.
Some bargains to be had across the board me thinks.

    • Depends what you're looking. Half decent prices on Colorado and Acadia already but I think they will drop further next month. I'm holding out till we see 30% or more off the RRP.

  • Is this a deal or a rumor?

    • +1

I think we need to wait for the 1st of March to find out

  • +3

My Mum is 70 and has been driving the same Toyota for 30 years, going on nearly 400k km. She wants to be one of those grey nomads that roam around Australia. I might take some annual leave and join her before she kicks the bucket. You guys reckon the Trax could do it? She's about 5 foot tall so could easily fit lol.

    • +2

A 250cc motorbike each could do it.

    • +1

For traveling around the country, I would be wanting a brand where you could easily access servcice and spare parts. It would probably start with "T".

    • +12

I'd second getting a Tesla Cybertruck

    • Definitely not.

  • Dealers will have a forecourt full of used Holdens to clear too, so going to have to reduce prices of these too if new prices are coming down. Market will reduce these too as much less people will be looking for Holdens at all now.
Expect a slow increase in discounts across the range, probably ask what's happening to the dealerships as discounts will get better closer to when they are planning to close.
Best discounts will probably be on unpopular models and depreciation on all Holdens is about to increase dramatically.

    • +1

      My poor little Barina

  • Watch this space just heard specials will be announced this afternoon

    • +3

didn't see any announcement made yet, another rumor I guess……….

Local dealer laughed and said they will take the discount on most stock and try and get some more and sell them secondhand. As they will be a service center anyway they see nothing better than selling secondhand cars when someone else pays for the warranty. Please note I am not associated with Holden but rather an x employee and can not remove that reference.

  • Base model Acadia 2WD $36,990 new price. I think they will go lower so would hold out for now.

    • Where did you see the price? The dealer in Perth called me about the Astra R they made the offer to me at $17800, they said they can throw in $500 worth of accessories if I can put down a deposit and pick up in March. I said I will check back in March. They are fishing as far as I know.

      • Hey mate, is the price quoted for a new car? Which MY?
        Thanks

        • Astra R 2019

I dont think price is worth a punt, I wouldnt pay more than $14000 for it.

          • @Aerith-Waifu: Okay thanks! Seems the price isn’t moving much at this stage..

            • @xixia: Wait till at least next month, they are telling all sorts of stories at the moment

            • +1

@xixia: I've seen $16990 in QLD. That's about the full $8500 discount and not included the prestige paint colours which are an extra $500

You may get a little more discount but I doubt it as people are buying it at that. There isnt exactly a lot of stock.

    • +1

I've been quoted $35,990 drive away for the base Acadia 2WD from a couple of dealers.

      • $44000 at the moment, so its down $8000.
