[Unobtainable Deal] Holden Final Run Out Sale: Trax ~$13,000, Equinox ~$20,000 + More

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Important stuff from the link

The Holden Trax city SUV is almost half price, with discounts ranging from $10,000 to $11,000, bringing this $23,990 model to the bargain price of about $13,000

The mid-size Holden Equinox is also a flat rate $10,750 off, or about a third off the price of the base model, bringing it from a bit over $30,000 drive-away to close to $20,000 drive-away.

The Holden Acadia seven-seat family SUV is between $11,500 and $17,000 off, between a quarter and one-third off the price of the car.

The cheapest discount is on the Holden Commodore – $7500 off – while the Astra hatch and sedan that were also discontinued last year have a flat rate of $8500 off to about $12,000 drive-away for the base models.

Additional Info (Thanks Techie4066):

Discounts on driveaway costs. All stock in remaining dealerships is expected to be depleted well before the end of 2020, with some dealers expecting to close by the end of financial year (June 30). Expected discounts from the start of March according to dealer bulletin (subject to change):

Holden Colorado (ute) - $13,000 to $17,500 off
Holden Trax (small SUV) - $10,000 to $11,000 off (down to ~$13,000 driveaway)
Holden Acadia (large seven seat SUV) - $11,500 to $17,00 off
Holden Commodore (liftback/tourer/sportwagon) - $7,500 off
Holden Astra (hatch/sedan) - $8,500 off (down to ~$12,000 base model driveaway)
Holden Equinox (medium SUV) - $10,750 off (down to ~$20,000 base model driveaway)

Opinions vary on these vehicles, but do jump on them if you have been in the market and are happy with what's available. Holden will provide servicing and spare parts for the next ten years (through a national aftersales network), ongoing call centre support, will issue recalls where necessary, and will honour existing warranties, guarantees and free scheduled servicing offers.

Mod: Article/bulletin lists the prices as drive away, but the pricing is not final and may be subject to change. As always, the deal may be removed (unobtainable) in the future, if it does not go ahead as (or close to) advertised/listed. Minor changes will be updated.

Mod: The deal become largely unobtainable. See comments. Moved to forums.

@scuderiarmani: How embarrassing driving a car older than 2 years….. What on earth will others think of me!

              • @scuderiarmani: i can imagine VEs and VFs being quite the collectibles in years to come, especially if they're the more specced out versions, in really good shape and not thrashed like a lot of those owned by bogans.

                • @tdw: Only V8s. Sixes will always be ordinary rubbish.

                • +1

@tdw: Even more so when my 2015 model has 14,000kms, however another factor that I don't wanna publicly mention increases its value more so. Was the only reason I ever bought a new one too.

                  • @scuderiarmani: You can see that some cars like 1969 Monaros with six cylinders is worth something.

However can you predict that in 2050 that a six cylinder VE or worth anything.

Especially given the timing chain issues?

                    • +1

@tonyjzx: Seen prices of anything VS and older lately in good condition??? Soon add VT…. They are increasing all the time.

VT may take longer given the numbers I reckon. But early 90s good condition Commodores are getting rediculous.

          • @scuderiarmani: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/139667

Have a look at the Trax. Great little small SUV.

            • @[Deactivated]: I originally did years ago, but my brother in law (engineer at Toyota TRD or whatever) immediately said to stay away from Trax when I sent him this post.

Wasn't shy in saying it either. I honestly don't mind the look of them though.

  • Awesome, my Mercedes just died.

  • Would trade in vehicles be allowed to reduce the price
    ?

  • Wow having not bothered to look at a Holden in years I have to ask what the hell they've done with their choice of colours. Your only choice on a lot of models if you don't want to blend into the road is bright red or white.

    • I was noticing, you'd think the Astra would atleast come in some bright colours…. I think the Trax had some variety from memory.

    • They aren't alone, even luxury brands only want to sell you grey, silver or white :/ Boring.

  • Weird comparison I know but

    For 12k astra
    Vs
    13k trax

I would consider both, as a second car
And if its Astra id go the 2dr model

Since they are priced almost the same the biggest factor for me would be, reliability or any major flaws

    Any opinions?

    • +1

I'd go a hatch. I thought about this too and besides the ground clearance I think the Astra is better everywhere.

I'm not a fan of the base 1.8 na in the Trax and I think since most people love small SUVs it'll sell out faster.

      Also $1k is $1k.

      • Yeah good points, 1k is still 1k!

Ive just had a look on car sales

        Cheapest astra new is $20k
        Cheapest trax new is $19k

I was assuming that the trax was more expensive than Astra

    • +1

Astra can take 91 unleaded and i think Trax needs at least 95

    • 2dr model? Doesnt exist

  • +2

So sad what has happened to the Holden brand.
Hate to say it, but doubt GM will honour anything that they say about after sales service…

    • +1

      It's shit but not surprising.

I remember going to an Adelaide 500 a few years ago, around the time that the last Commodore was coming in. Not kidding, I walked past the main car park behind the pit straight and it was filled to the brim with everything but Commodores.

Here I was in Holden's heartland state, at a Holden Mecca in the 500….and NO Commodores!!!!! I didn't expect that at all.

      • +1

People have short memories. I remember people pointing out I drove a Commodore and that it was a dead brand when they stopped the VF in 2017.

I didnt care because as you see, people talk a lot of crap on other peoples' life positions.

But I do love my V8s and Holden were good at that.

There was a lot less fuss over Ford exiting and almost zero fuss about Toyota.

        • +1

People can knock them all they want. I think the VF is an incredible car. I'll never sell mine. I'm upset I don't have the last V8s but I'll live with mine.

Sure Holden made mistakes that caused them to shut up shop but the VF wasn't to blame.

Holden is far more entrenched with Australians I think.

  • I was looking to sell my Ford Focus S, they're around 10k.

I don't like the Astra or Trax, but the price is extremely appealing for a brand new car!

  • The Trax is a pretty god little SUV. We hired 2 in Italy a few years ago, one manual and one automatic. Had them for about a week and covered some distance and I was pretty impressed.

Would suit singles, young couples or families with younger kids (or 2 or less kids).

I’m actually considering one now as a 3rd family car. We have a 7 seater X5 and a VF SS-V Redline. I have 15 year old twins about to get their learners.

This deal has been posted on all the Australian Uber forums hahahah. Good luck beating those guys to the deal. They are already discussing paying a FULL discounted price deposit this week at all the dealers to pickup the cars in March when deal goes live.

    • Geez! Better get your butt moving if thats true

      • I predict a lot of dead Uber Holdens on the side of the road….

        • Better be enrolled in RACV roadside assistance!

    • How does a discount price deposit work?

      • Assume they're talking a full deposit ie full discount purchase price?

    • My assumption is that Uber drivers are most interested in the most discounted model (Trax) or the most comfortable passenger cars for Uber black, so that doesn't affect me who is after Acadia, right?

    • Thankfully I don't think uber drivers would be interested in a colorado, so I got time to sleep on it and hopefully the price drops even further come EOFYS

  • +1

Hi folks, any confomation on base model colarado price (4x4 diesel duel cab) ?

    • there will be no issues offloading those as there is quite a demand from the m from big companies to put in as their work horse, of course its not the first choice but once they hear of the discounted pricing there aint gonna be many left

  • I assume that there will be no options to customise the car, or request colours, unless its already there in the showroom,

  • +3

I wonder if there will actually be any 12k astras left after sales staff reserve stock for family and relos, plus their vip customers will no doubt get a phone call.

General public just get the scraps.

Didnt staff do this when Dick Smith hit the fan.

    • +12

Are Holden staff known for hating their family or something?

      • Wouldn't you if you had to sell Holdens to provide for them?

  • Does anyone know how the 'free servicing' works? I.e. do the oil changes/filters etc cost ontop (I assume so)?

    • I assume they will exclude free servicing when this deal starts in March.

    • From the current T&C's

FREE SCHEDULED SERVICING includes up to 7 standard scheduled services earlier of 84mths or 84,000kms, as specified by the Service Warranty Booklet, restrictions apply. Must service within 3,000kms or 90 days of scheduled service date, whichever occurs first.

I would have thought the intervals were more than once per year. And if it is, you're only getting 12,000kms per year to match the 84,000kms over 7 years.

Sounds more like 3 years for the average punter.

    • +1

Free servicing offer expires at the end of this month - so will not be running when the price deal goes into effect.. I had a look at that too haha

  • +5

thanks OP, Just bought 10 to serve the rest of my life. Now I am done with cars.

    • +1

      how old are you? 80?

  • +11

I Puchasing an opel when they pulled out at about 30% off. I had no issues having it serviced on the included service. I had no problem getting warranty support. Ultimate it is the dealer who is responsible for the warranty. The seller must honour the warranty. So buy your car from a multi brand franchise so they will be around.

That was in 2013. I sold the car 4.5 years old in 2018 with 60k on the clock. Well looked after and in good condition. I got 50% of what I paid and covered easily my lease residual.

Everyone at the time told me I was crazy for buying an exit brand. In the end it was the best deal on a car I ever got. It held fair and reasonable value. And was not difficult to sell on car sales.

If I was keeping the car over 4 years I would have no problem buying one of these run outs. For many people it might be there only chance to be able to afford a brand new car. Sure it may not be a glamour car but these Holden’s do not have major problems or recalls. They are just fine as a daily driver.

If those astras really go for sub $15k I want one for my daughter. Euro made. Cute looking. Good features. And will shit all over a similar Kia or Hyundai or mits lancer.

  • I've been thinking about replacing an ageing Kluger but nothing under $80k has caught my eye.

    • New Toyota Kluger Australian launch has been delayed until 2021 after being released in 2019.
    • There was a rumour in September that Hyundai Palisade would launch mid-year, nothing since.
    • Mazda CX-9 is possibly the pick but I'm not convinced.

Based on that list, an Acadia LTZ-V for under $50 might make me over look it's short comings.

    • CX9 for sure. The Azami has always been top of the class IMO.
I don't think we'll see the Acadia under 50k but I do agree it's very tempting if it got to that price.

    • I've got a CX-9 Azami and love it. The only slight criticism is that it is a bit heavy on fuel around town compared to my X-Trail. Slightly surprising as the combined fuel economy figures between the CX-9 FWD (8.4L/100KM) and X-Trail FWD (7.9L/100KM) are very close. After two years of ownership of the X-Trail, my fuel economy was sitting on 9.1L/100KM. I've had the CX-9 for about 6 weeks and it's 10.8L/100KM over the same drive.

  • How does this work, is it only cars at the dealer's? Do I just go to local dealers and they'll know about all the discounts?

  • really stupid question, but if you buy from the dealer,
do you have to pay registration and stamp duty?

(have never purchased a new car in my life)

    • If it is a new car (unregistered), whatever price is the driveaway price, no more to pay.

Used (some claim to be new/demo - registered) might attract stamp duty with shifty sellers. be very specific whatever price includes transfer/stamp duty. They will tell you that they do not register the car for buyer - might be true, but so far all my purchase been negotiated to include transfer/stamp (3%).

  • so is this deal legit?

    • +1

      Seems not. :(

      See my comment just below.

      • Deal not current yet, of course dealers are going to try and push current prices.

        Wait a few weeks.

  • +3

Second hand Holden market is about to take a serious dive!

  • +5

I think the only 'trap' is the one on OzBargain. ;)

Just spoke to a dealer in WA and they are adamant these prices will never be offered. They admitted that the bulletin does exist, but the discounts being mentioned here are misleading, and there is no way there will be drive away prices @ anywhere near $13k for a Trax.

Incidentally I offered to pay a full deposit, so cut right to the chase.

    • Good to know - $12K drive away for a new Astra would nearly tempt me… any high and no dice (I'm guessing it'll be closer to $15k drive away… which is no deal for me).

      • Base model been flogged around 15k for some time now.

    • +8

They would say that before a sale started….

    • Closer to the date they’ll be discounting heavily.

    • So did he manage to give you a more realistic price?

    • Which dealer is this? Not the one in Cannington I hope? They are telling me No NO NO NO and more No NO when I went and see them

    • -1

Yep, I've read about salespeople getting hammered with people wanting stupid prices that aren't going to happen

  • be mindful that some new Holdens are still on the Takata list.

  • I need a good first car, I'll grab the cheapest they've got please!

  • +5

Reminds me of the time I bought all those HD-DVD’s

    • Hahaha. Mine are still in pristine condition and work flawlessly. What's the issue?

  • +9

Holden dealers are denying this sale is legitimate. Why? Because dealers are sitting on piles of new stock that they've already paid full price for. Every salesperson is going to give you a look reserved for people with two heads when you rock up to a dealership and ask for a $12k Astra.

Only cars still held by Holden will be given a discount, and you can bet the discount will be eaten by dealers. Only when the last few white manual Astras are left in stock can you expect a fire sale price.

    • +7

is going to give you a look reserved for people with two heads

Hey, you leave Queenslanders out of this!

    • +1

      THIS!
Just returned from a visit to a large WA dealer ( perth metro, Wednesday late night open hours) Looking at a base model Trax. They say Holden have just "authorised us to give to runout deals, so this base model trax is now $19990, awesome price sir saving you $7000 off the RRP, coz that's what the authorised deal is.. $7000 off the RRP for a base model Trax ..but you dont get the 7 years free servicing". F**K oFF!…what a load of BS. Even that doesn't make sense since the driveaway price (according to the Holden website and inputting my postcode) is $24490….$24490-$7000 = $17490.

      • +10

Yep, never ever trust car salesmen…

      • The current $24490 DA price is already a discounted price.
The MRRP of an auto Trax LS is $26490 + ORC.

The dealers and holden are probably all pissed because even if the memo discounts are correct, the author of the article is pusing the already discounted prices instead of the MRRP.

  • Got a ZB Commodore LT about a month ago for 21.75K + onroads with 9500km. Very happy with it for the price.

    • HI man, that's a good price, I currently have a 2008 Aurion, I am just waiting for Commodore to drop further, I am not sure when is the best time to buy because my car is quite reliable.

  • Any user review of Arcadia here? Is the safety feature like lane assist, front collision alert, and auto brake as good as Subaru system? Also is there built rear and front camera?

  • If i can get an Arcadia for less than 30 I am keen. Seems like a good car

    • I think you're dreaming…

  • I am downvoting this because you will never get them at $12k, same with the infinite deal, the QX70 was going for $46888 at one of the dealers, when I called a number of dealers around the country and they said it's not going to be this price, more like $58000+.

    • Hi Mate, still looking for an SUV?

  • It's not a real deal, there are too many moving goal posts (changing terms like servicing and the like).

I expect the run out will go much lower for what is a dead product.

  • +8

My best mate is a Holden new car sales manager, as others have said, the bulletin exists, but these prices quoted are wrong. Whatever the discounts are, they will replace the existing manufacturer bonuses. As such, a Trax may currently be $24990 drive away, but that is because there is already money on it from the factory.

Holden have also allegedly spent half the day trying to get this article taken down for being incorrect.

Also, dealers get given these rebates but don’t have to pass them on to the customer. Even if they were able to sell a car for $13k, if they think they could reasonably get $15k for it they’ll sell it for that and keep the $2k.

    • +5

Considering that they havn't been selling many cars at the currrent pricing and that was before the risks now attached to a end of line product.

If they dont heavily discount it would be in contradiction to their plan to 'move metal' by the end of financial year.

If they really think a small discount will see them flying out the door, good luck.

    • Considering the workers at holden dealerships will be out of business in 12 months im thinking they will sell whatever they can for whatever price

    • +6

Dealerships will eventually cave in when they see their piles of stock isn't moving. This is the closing down sale, not a end of finacial year sale.

People aren't buying their cars now. A minor discount isn't going to make the cars fly out the door.

  • Just wait and see…

  • It is time for a Dutch auction

    • What's that?

        • -4

so passive aggressive. would've been better if you copy pasta

          • +7

@mr_asstight: It was not passive aggressive. Give a person a fish and they eat for the day but teach them how to fish and they eat for life. Now you know how to find answers you don't have to ask questions anymore.

    • it appears they (GM) have already started. today, I found 5 new ads for the Astras built in Oct-Nov 2019 for $18690, a week ago they were around $23K.

    • Dutch oven? ;-) That's not what I want in a new car smell. ;-)

  • -3

Dealers aren't stupid. Parts will be hard to source as will mechanics in the future. They will cheap but will be useless hunks of steel in five years. Steer clear.

    • Vauxhall are still making an Astra in the UK. Parts will be easy to get.

  • if the trax is the range topper LTZ for 13k its worth looking it, if its the base model meh

  • wait till the end for left overs. the pink ones with purple polka dots wiil be really cheap

    • my dream colour combination!
