  • Will this work for Windows 7?

    • +3

The Microsoft Store app is only available on Windows 10

      • awww DOH!

In the more recent versions of Office you can actually save your documents as PDF, and it's not just limited to MS Word either. Also includes excel spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations.

There are also online document conversion tools (webapps / Chrome apps) available, useful for people who are not using a Windows machine and want to convert it while on smartphone / Chromebook for e.g

@scrimshaw: Also works backwards. If you open a PDF in Word it will convert it to a .DOC file

    Great deal. Thanks OP

I'd like to see how well this converts from pdf. Almost any software can spit out pdf files.

    • +5

Try it and get back to us before the expiry so we aren't all wasting out time :-)

    • Agreed. Easy to convert to PDF. Hard to convert back from PDF.

  • +3

Just tested it, it does not OCR so it is useless

    • +4

I don't need it often, but when I do, it's pretty good at lifting text from an image:

      Copyfish

OCR is just for images. But PDFs usually store text as text, not a flat iamge. I'm interest to see if it can convert a PDF back to, say MS Word, and have all the text as editable etc.

      • I tried converting PDF to word and did an excellent job. Have a look at the sample link i posted below.

    • +1

      OCR so it is useless

Google Docs has excellent, if not best, OCR, free too.

  • Thanks OP, got it.

  • +1

Does it work converting PDF reports back into excel? e.g. PDF 'formatted' tables converted over into Excel?

  • +3

using in the latest version of Office you can just open your pdf as a document

Anyone else having issues checking this out? Im getting an error "something happened on our end, waiting a bit might help". Im getting the same error on the Win 10 Store as well as on the web storefront. Ive tried logging in and out of both with no success

    • I'm getting the same error

    • Looks like it is fixed now, give it another crack guys

  • +3

Anyone know of any decent free or cheap software that will also allow you to merge & re-order the pages within a PDF files? I use the free online tools but when you have a lot to do they don't cut it.

PDF Sam (PDF Split and Merge)
The basic version does all you would need.
      Free and works well.

      • +3

I found PDF Sam when I was doing my honours thesis - I showed my supervisor and she started recommending it to every student she had. It's just so far ahead of anything else on the market, or at least it was in 2016.

      • Thanks, really useful with TinyScanner on my phone!

      • Looks like PDF Sam has a 65% off holiday special on now for the Pro and Pro + OCR - https://pdfsam.org/download-pdfsam-enhanced/

        • Only if you go on a plan, boooooo

      • Thanks so much, will check it out!

    • +4

I use PDF Mergy it is an extension in Google Drive, merges and reorders pages, it is online but I find it much quicker than using those standalone online PDF editor websites.

  • is this good for converting PDF to word, for doctoring-Quotes for example, then back to PDF?

  • Yup same here.

    • Yup same here?

      • Fat fingers on mobile, replying to the wrong thread…twice <hangs head in shame>

  • How is this different to "print to pdf" when choosing the printer device?

    • You can do it back from pdf to Word doc

  • +2

i can't claim this. All it does is spin and never load.

    • I gave up trying to do it in Firefox and used IE.
Had to sign into a MS account and it shows I own it but to install it I think I have to use MS account to log onto my own computer, I really don't want to do that.

      • does not work for me using FF, Chrome, and Edge.

I give up on this shitty win 10 store.

  • +2

I look forward to receiving more JPG logos resaved as PDFs

  • I'm getting an error message that says, something went wrong at our end, please wait a bit.

Using Win10 Pro and both browser and MS Store app to try to Get it but same message!

ps: I cant even add it to my cart either.

    • Same for me.
      Worked after multiple attempts.

      • Yep, me too, all working fine now!

  • Can it remove watermarks?

  • +1

    thanks OP

Was disappointed to see that this is an online conversion tool. I loaded a pdf to convert and it said "…uploading file…"

    • Well that's just stupid then

  • Anything -> PDF = Cute PDF
PDF -> Text = Cut and paste from reader eg Foxit reader

    Am I missing something?

    • Anything -> PDF = Cute PDF

For this, 'Print as PDF' or 'Save as PDF' work too. You don't need any software.

  • Great to see more free options out there. Does this one have the ability to merge PDF documents?

    • +1

See earlier comments regarding Sam PDF (listed as Sam PDF in Google Play Store) for that.

      • Ah missed those comments. Thanks!

        • +1

No problem, easy enough to do. I had literally just seen them :)

  • Does this allow you to drag and drop various files like word, pps etc and then save as a single PDF

Or do you have to convert each file to pdf and then merge them together

  • +1

Thanks OP. After a bit of fiddling about I managed to get this to install. It did a great job of converting a large PDF I had to Word docx - formatting was nicely retained with images and tables etc. A handy tool for me.

    • How did you install?

      • +1

Had to link my pc to a Microsoft account, then went back to the link from the store and it worked fine.

  • Not bad in converting from PDF to word or JPG,sample here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KYailnsa-CKzZ022nB83L5Bed6…

Only drawback is it needs internet connection to upload the file and convert.

  • I think that none of the software, including Acrobat Pro, can convert a scanned page/image with text on it to a text recognizable (text editable) PDF which can then be converted to a standard word doc. Is there any tool that does this with a reasonable accuracy?

    • Depends on the quality of the scanned image, some OCR are good but not 100% accurate. This App doesn't convert image to text, just tried converting this JPG to PDF, then DOCX and came back with just full image inside the document.

  • Thanks TA

Don't think I would ever use this but its FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Getting this on Windows 10. Weird

Pick where you want to install

It looks like you don’t have any applicable device(s) linked to your Microsoft account. To install, sign in on a device with your Microsoft account.

Get more info on your device list

  • Many free and paid office suites now have PDF conversion included.
So its a streamlined process to convert to PDF within an office suite.

    NEGATIVES
Using an external tool such as this one is rather painful as you must first save the document then open in the app and then convert.
It also does not include a built-in PDF viewer like many other PDF creaters.
Yes Windows 10 has a PDF viewer built-in. I know.
But still you must use multiple applications to get the same result.

    POSITIVES
    Free and small download.
This app converts both ways hence useful to have anyway.

  • Ok, so when converting it says 'uploading'… so it sends your documents to somewhere on the Internet to convert it. So be mindful of the privacy of your docs.

  • If you ever need to extract data from a spreadsheet or table in a pdf, use Tabula, it's saved me a lot of suffering.

  • It wants me to sign into my PC with my Microsoft account instead of my local account. (profanity) that!

  • +1

$0 before sign-in. $5.95 after signed in for me.

  • +1

    Looks like it's $5.95 now.
