  • Is this too good to be true??!!!! What is this about "Features: Max. 334GB Formatted Capacity per Disk"? - some sort of typo'?? The Samsung HD753LJ gets a very favourable review at http://www.we-u.com/?p=132 What a GREAT price! If only my old PCs had S-ATA… :(

    Cheers,
    Live Long and Prosper.

  • hmmmh…Seagate 1Tb = $189, and now Samsung 750Gb = $99.
Again…any idea about the freight cost to Sydney?
Much appreciated for one who knows. CHeers

  • “Features: Max. 334GB Formatted Capacity per Disk”
thats how big the platters are inside the disk

  • very good deal, but I wonder what is the shipping cost though

  • Shipping via Aut Post satchel = $9.00.

Payment is a bit odd: send copies of your credit card statment!+ card!! + signature!!! + letter of authority!!!!, or bank deposit / e-transfer into their bank account!!!!! They have several stores in Melb & VIC, so OK if you're a Mexican…

I've ordered one, so wish me luck…

    Cheers,
    Live Long & Prosper.

    • Thanks for getting the postage information. I was just about to sign up to get the info, although a 750GB SATA2 drive is useless to me as the fastest desktop computer at home is still using UltraDMA 100… :P

  • Thanks AT9.
Scotty, I've nil x Serial ATA either, so I plan to get a cheap external USB/SATA enclosure for the Samsung 750GB. Or, I've ordered an IDE/SATA to USB adaptor cable kit also ($19 delivered @ CyberTTstore).

    Cheers,
    Live Long and Interface.

  • Hi. Anybody know where I can get a cheap enclosure that will give me USB access? Thx!

    • If you are in Melbourne and can go to a store, their latest Green Guide ad has a a Samsung 750gb 3.5" external drive for $149 - could not find it on the site though :((

      Ozzie

    • You can find enclosures for the drive on the same site here
      http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/default.php?page=1&cPath…

It'll plug straight into your USB port.

      • Thanks Duke / Ozem. I am in Melbourne - so will have a look at the Green Guide.

  • thats cheap.. if you're in WA there's a company http://www.mcgtech.com.au/ that has them for $98 cash only also.

  • Its a real deal, one of the samsung distributors have over 3000x of those 750GB hdds and can't sell them for months now. so they are dumping the price.

Great Deal but the faulty rate on those samsung drives are too high, that why many solid system builders wouldn't use them.

    • Indeed. An old friend of mine is working on the warranty claim department for Samsung here in Sydney. I probably won't buy a Samsung from how busy he is.

      • That's what I was wondering. After having gone through the trauma of a couple of hdd failures (Maxtor), I'm not about to risk it again with a drive from a company which is not known for this sort of gear.
I'm sticking to Seagate and WD now and even then I have two of each now for full weekly backups.

        • I also wouldn't touch Maxtor. I see DELLs by the hundreds thru work, and the only "dud" model I've seen over 10 years were GX260s with Maxtor HDDs that had a shocking fail rate from new, & right thru the 3 year life-cycle. I've only been tempted into the Samsung by the price! Time will tell if it is a true bargain or not. I'll be using this HDD with backup, so I won't risk losing 750GB of acquired data. I've a Seagate 320GB in 1 d'top + an ext' WD 1TB for b'up, so I have some faith in them.

While talking HDD reliability, any feedback on Fujitsu as I've had nothing to do with them???

          Cheers,
          Live Long and Bargain.

  • How does 750GB turn into 2 platters of 334GB? You lose alot of storage space.

I was going to get one of these Saturday morning but the negative reviews from the experts have convinced me not to.
Now I know why MSY don't sell Samsung drives.

Much like when they did not want to sell the 28" Viewsonic monitor until they sorted out their dead pixel warranty issues.

    • Both 750GB Samsung's (16 & 32 cache versions) have 3 platters, while MSY actually does stock Samsung hard disks, just not many nowadays which doesn't sound good for Samsung seeing that Samsungs are cheap and MSY likes to sell cheap stuff so…

As for performance, Tom's Hardware included two of these drives in their sub $4000us ideal machine (article only a few days old):
      http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/computer-price-performan…

  • Went to MSY y'day after a WD 120GB 2.5" IDE HDD for a portable enclosure I'd ordered. Even though it's listed on their .pdf, they no longer stock it - I was "encouraged" to take a Samsung HDD instead. So now I will have 2 Samsungs to "assess"! Also picked up a cheap USB/SATA 3.5" ext' enclosure, so I'll install the Samsung 750GB in that once it arrives.

    Cheers,
    Live Long and Store.

    • All the best. Hopefully you don't need to deal with my friend at the Samsung warranty claim department too soon :)

      • Thanks Scotty - me three!!!

        Cheers,
Live Long and Hope Samsung HDDs do also…
