[Update: cheaper per TB deal now on for WD 12TB Digital Elements Desktop HDD, USB 3.0 $329.68](https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/516527)

Update: price has jumped to $470.22. Marking as expired for now but I'll keep an eye on it.

I think this is the cheapest ever price for a 14TB External HD. Not the best bang for buck ($/TB) offer but maybe worth it if you are looking to update to the larger capacity drives in your NAS.

Should be shuckable via normal online guidelines and I'm sure people will mention in the comments that you can get the AU Plug shipped from WD if you want to use the drive as is.

I don't believe this is a pricing error - apologies for the last deal :)

  • Weren't 16TB $367 or something recently?

    • +1

      12TB were $365 briefly. Now they're $376 I believe (or there abouts).

      • Ignore me i'm probably confused.

  • Is there 2 drives in there or 1?

    • +3

Just one drive. They don't make 7TB drives to my knowledge. And the My Book Duo is the one that has 2 drives.

  • Still waiting on the 10TB I ordered from Amazon AU back in January

    • 16 march?

They’d better not cancel on us.

      • Yep, but I'm expecting further delay due to the virus.

        • Did you just get cancelled? Cheeky. The link to the item shows its in stock in the US

          • @[Deactivated]: Yep, order was cancelled…

Asked live chat to replace it with Amazon US stock and they refuse…stating 'different vendor'

            • @RichardL: Very annoyed after 7 weeks of waiting, I even spent $500 on a new NAS to hose them. I might chase them for some credit to help offset the increased price.

              • @[Deactivated]: Best they could offer was a $30 Credit, which doesn't cover the $70 difference in price now (and I'm assuming price will increase due to the virus)

                • @RichardL: They offered me $20. Which they figured would placate me.
I went to town on them. They backed down, told me to order the ones from the US, uses the fastest shipping and they’ll refund the difference as credit. So I’ve just ordered 2 and they’ll be here by Sat. Spewing I’m missing out on the cash back but a good result.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Lucky you, my customer service rep on Live Chat refused to send from their Amazon US store stating different vendor and only offered $30 Credit (Their "Maximum" that they were allowed to offer).

Basically stonewalling any question I asked, and trying to end the conversation.

God that'd be a lot of data to lose in one go

    • That's exactly what I was thinking when the first 2 and 4TB drives started to appear about 10 years ago.

    • God that'd be a monumentally stupid idea to have 14TB of irreplaceable data not backed up anywhere else.

I'd love know if they are the white label NAS equivalent.

Also be wary that if you put this in with 3x 10tb in a synology, then the excess 4tb wont be used in the SHR array. Ie you'll need at least 2x 14tb to take advantage of it.
Raid calc on their website is highly recommended.

    Cheers

Real question. What do people need that much storage for?

I've just moved from 1080p to 4k Remux rips so will need to invest in some more storage very soon ;)

    "+ Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $49 Spend)"

This seems rather redundant, given the price is greater than the $49 spend required for free delivery …

  • Are there any better deals out there for a large HDD? This seems good value per Tb and trying to think of any upcoming sales that might be worth waiting for (Black Friday too far away).

    • +1

There have been better prices in Europe and US, but not delivered to Aus (at this size). It's possible to get 8TB and 10TB external drives at < $25/TB, but it requires a fair bit of luck (the last time the drives were $231 for 10TB only lasted 20 mins).

      • Yeah, saw that, great deal but lots of luck. Thanks for responding. Might just have to bite the bullet and get this at this price.

  • Mine arrived yesterday - just the retail box with a shipping label stuck on it! Came with a US style power adaptor, I'll need to claim my AU adaptor for WD. They should do the same as Seagate and include a power supply with a variety of interchangeable plugs.
