So last month or 6 days ago means the same thing.

  • Anyway, looks like it's on sale until 11-Sep

  • any comments on how good is it?

  • they had makers mark 700ml for $34 the other day as well. price constantly fluctuates as it was on the website for $39.95 a few days ago.

    • i think spending an extra 10 (when it is available to be spent) and getting gentleman jack when on sale for 44 is well worth the investment…

  • This doesn't sound too bad for the price.

  • i cant spend more than $40 on a bottle of spirits cant see the value. $40 can get you a nice drop still.

  • Not with Single Malt, I cant find anything under 60 dollars that doesn't give you a smashed head the next morning.
Its not the same as wine you really get what you pay for with Single Malt.

    • Personally I'd say go with Bowmore, also on special at $69.80. Last time I went through duty free they had that at $99 for two bottles.

Laphroaig at $58.85 is a good second best.

Talisker would never have the word 'smooth' associated with it.

      • How about Macallan? How you rate it against these?

        • +1

Laphroaig, bowmore and talisker are all fairly heavily peated malts. The bottlings of macallan that I've tried didn't have a trace of peat. That makes them very different animals. The phenollic taste that peatsmoke imparts to a malt is one of those things that you either love or hate. I love it. To me it's like an open fire on a cold day.

People that don't like it might say it reminds them of medicine or hospital disinfectant… In fact there is a legend that laphroaig was the only whisky allowed to be imported into the US during prohibition as the authorities thought the smell would limit it to medicinal use, since no one in their right mind would drink it recreationally!

Long story short: I wouldn't recommend you spend money on a peated whisky if you haven't tried one before. Try ordering a laphroaig or an ardbeg the next time you're at a bar and you'll instantly know whether you're a fan of peat or not.
