  • I have seen it down to around $900 on eBay with the 20% discount late last year. I was looking into it, what worries me though is the plethora of negative feedback.

    • +1

Most of the feedback relates to connectivity to the sub from what I can see, which I believe was patched out/sorted towards the end of last year.

Reviews aside from that are stellar, definitely looks the pick of the Atmos bars, though could probably do with a few more inputs.

I've not seen it for $900, I definitely would've grabbed one for that.

  • This or the Sony ht-z9rf?

My thoughts are I've never heard the Sony mentioned in any "This is the best Atmos soundbar" discussions.

      Go the Samsung.

      • Would it make much of a difference that I have the matching Sony TV from a compatibility perspective?

        • +1

          I wouldn't imagine so, HDMI in/out is HDMI in/out

If your Sony TV is new enough to be HDMI 2.1 (eARC, VRR/Variable Refresh Rate) then you would want to look into a bar that supports that as well so you don't lose any of those benefits.

(though the Sony bar you mentioned isn't HDMI 2.1/eARC either, so as far as deciding between the two it's not relevant)

Great speakers at great price. Although only complaint is no hdmi 2.1 (earc to be specific) support

  • Great price for the unit. I purchased at around $1200 but returned it due to the system reacting poorly to different types of apps/content. When listening to Dolby Atmos content, the Q90r is unbeatable but for general use my old Samsung HW-K950 system outperformed it every time. I did weeks of testing between the 2x systems and i'm much happier with my K950 as it works consistently through all apps and content.

    • Which apps/content are you referring to where it reacted poorly?

What devices are you using for Atmos content? TV Netflix app, etc.

      • +1

I had issues with Plex, Netflix and Disney+ and games like Rocket League on the Xbox One X.
I tried the different streaming apps on my Sony TV, Xbox One X and Apple TV. They all sounded the same across all the apps on all devices.
The Q90r Subwoofer worked but could barely hear the subwoofer even on max sub volume. The HW-K950 worked flawlessly ( I normally run my Subwoofer on -3 as I feel the HW-K950 puts out more than enough)
Sorry if this is hard to read or understand.

    • Again this could possibly be because of the connectivity issue that Lawsuit mentioned above.

  • I really did not need this…. and it's now in my bedroom lol

    • How was it?

      • Clumsy to update firmware. I'm not big on the SQ, the rears are waaaay too quiet. It's good for a soundbar, though you can get much better audio from seperate speakers.

  • I went to Video Pro in Carindale to test it out before buying and after 20 minutes the staff gave up trying to pair the rear speakers and sub. Checked on Samsung site and seems to be a common issue. Needless to say I didn't get it.

    • Their hopeless. Worked instantly for me. You'll only ever hear of complaints.
