Annoying, 1152 ratings but no reviews (approx 3.1/5 score)

    • Don't trust reviews from the website itself lol, they can easily fake it.

      • +4

Wouldn't you think they'd make it higher than 62% if they were going to fake it? ;)

        • +1

No, it's an entry level product. If everything was 9/10 would that seem legitimate to you?

          • @FlyingKanga: sigh it's like you have no idea 😂

            • +1

@spackbace: Am a software dev who's worked in e-commerce and knows how easy it is to fake reviews but alright

                • +16

@spackbace: So you agree that they can fake their own reviews, great. My point is that if they can control that, then they can influence you to purchase their higher tier products which have better reviews. It's classic marketing psychology and your inability to see it amazes me on how well it works.

                  • -3

@FlyingKanga: Likewise, how easily people will blindly accept conspiracy theories amazes me…

I'm assuming that despite your "insider knowledge" on how easy it is to fake reviews (not that you need anything more than a semi-functioning brain to figure that out…), you can't point to a single example of them actually doing that?

                • +11

                  @spackbace: Lol chill out mate.

          • @FlyingKanga: Reviews should be based on level/price/expected user and use, if not everyone would review an utily car against a mercedes

    • +1

Its weird but all of Anacondas items are very lowly rated if you compare the exact same items rating in other stores. Dunno if its internal incompetence or external sabotage but youre better off looking up items on product review or some other third party site.

      • -1

Yeah star ratings are pointless, need comment systems. Yes they can be manipulated but something is better than nothing and you can generally see trends (refer Target's online review system).

Which was the whole point of my initial comment, which first replier didn't understand

        • Even then though, online reviews are almost always heavily weighted towards the negative and it is very hard to judge.

People are far more likely to go online to make a complaint or leave a bad review than they are to leave a good review about a product or service.

  • The price is attractive. Surely they must sell decent quality gear being a specialist adventure store and not a general clearance store like Red Dot?

    • +6

Surely they must sell decent quality gear

They certainly do…you've just gotta fund it in amongst all the crap that they also sell.

      • +7

Find it first, then fund it

        • +1

Dammit! My OCD hates me right now.

  • +5

It's been at this price (without the jacket & oar) a few times. A bit of info in this thread

    • +3

Hence a bit of a bargain I guess! I bought 2 of them a couple months back for about that then had to fork out for the paddle and PFD ….. All still sitting unused :(

    • +1

Thats when i purchased it. Used it a few times on calm waters and pretty happy with it.

      • +11

Ok Calm waters?so don't go chasin' waterfalls?stick to the rivers and lakes that your used?

        • Because of crocodiles I have limited areas of use and those areas I can go don't include open water where the water can get a little bit rough. I also go with the little fellas so taking kids kayaking further reduces your options.
Plenty of people do open water kayaking and SUP up here but being eaten by a crocodile is not on my bucket list.

        • I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all, but I think you'll be moving way too fast on waterfalls.

    • Lol there's some pretty hilarious comments and discussions in that deal/thread.

"Seaflo Adult Kayak and Seak Multifit Level 50 PFD 40-70kg ONLY"

Not sure there are many adults on ozbargain in that weight range

    • +3

The kayak itself can hold 125kg

      • +57

For any ozbargainers over 125kg this makes a great submarine

        • -3

The average Australian man is 178cm tall and weighs in at 85kg. For women, the average height is 164cm with a weight of 68kg.

        • Oh that made me laugh :D

      • If you need to visualize what a 125kg load rating looks like:
        https://i.postimg.cc/hGFP3gr7/maxresdefault-4.jpg

        • It's funny 'cause it's true. Pity you can't see the goat hanging off the other side.

    • +1

I have one of these and I weigh 95. They are robust and good kayak, not built for speed, more just to hang out

  • Is this plastic or an inflatable?

    • Front zipper entry for easy getting on & off

  • is a kayak a 2 seater or one?

    • +1

      This kayak is a one-seater.

      • +2

cant they sit on your lap?

        • +1

that would be cute, and i ain't no physicist but that smells like trouble lol

        • +12

NO. kayaks only work if the person sits on the kayak. Never the other way around.

    • You would need to average 62.5 kilos each or less. So if you're a jockey or somehow other vertically challenged then you should be ok.

  • +4

    Delivery 119$ 🙄

    • Can’t pick Click and Collect!

    • +1

I rang Anaconda. You can go to the store and save the delivery fee.

  • This is a killer price

  • We have a couple of these. Not sure how they rate against other craft but we've had a lot of fun with them and paid more than this offer.

  • +2

Will this fit into a normal sedan?

    • +1

      roof racks mate!

  • +1

I've been keeping an eye on the Aqua marina monster ISUP which was 399 a few weeks ago and then 449 this past week. It's now on sale for 599.

    • +2

      Quick, grab it!

  • Do Anaconda do click and collect or line up with the rest?

    • +1

Nope. They get you with the delivery fee. No thanks.

  • Where can one use this around Sydney?

    • +2

It’s a few years old, but something to get you started.

      https://concreteplayground.com/sydney/travel-leisure/leisure…

    • +12

I believe that there is a harbour in Sydney

      • Yes. but not for beginners with all the "busy traffic" and hard to find a spot to park your car…

        • +1

You could try Hayes st in Neutral Bay or Sirius Cove in Mosman. Get there early and there should be free parking for 2 hours.

Hug the shoreline and there’s a nice paddle past the zoo and towards middle head

    • Lane Cove National Park, can go all the way to the harbour or just potter around.

  • +1

Worth using my $10 birthday credit on this? I live near a lake so could take it for a paddle

  • How is this one compare with the previous deal

    • 1 less seat

  • +1

Maybe useful for escaping from coronavirus

    • +4

      Good luck paddling to Antarctica.

      • Greenland is still uninfected, and it'll be summer when they get there.

  • How many passengers can the boat take?

  • From experience, they are going to oversell and cancel most of the seemingly legit orders. Been there and I don’t trust that store with offers like this one.

  • +2

Thanks OP, bought one for the next floods.

Now waiting anxiously for a udemy course on how to kayak.

    • Better then driving your car through the waters at least.

  • +14

I'm going to stick this on top of my SUV so people think I like the outdoors.

  • -1

Hard to resist, cheap kayaks rarely are stable and secondary stability is non existent

  • +2

    Shipping kills it.

    C

  • $250 is a good price?

    • Yes, but $149 is not the same as $250. And shipping is more than $100

      • +1

You can go to the store to avoid a $119 delivery fee

  • Seems like it has no drain holes. Wouldn't that be a big problem?

    • Kayaks generally don't, carry a cheap car-wash sponge or a ShamWow to bail-out ;)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vm03Dgu_yXA

    • Yeah, I bought this, had a go, and it did get water in it.

I was a bit concerned, so I asked a fellow kayaker if it's a problem, and he explained with an air of confidence that's it's fine, and gestured to the shape of the kayak.

I'm not entirely sure I should be trusting my life with this stranger's understanding of fluid dynamics, but … I am.

  • I bought the same one but the double for $99 like 2months ago

    • So did I. Its a huge beast. Haven't used it yet but soon.

      • Was a awesome deal, I used mine ,very happy with it and so very stable

  • Op, is there a way to select pickup, I could not find it (my first time registering/using this store).

    • +1

[Edit] Never mind, I see that mod has removed (Free C&C) from the title.

  • +3

How is this a deal? The shipping kills it

    • +3

      Pick one up instore?

    • +1

Maybe, just maybe, some of us live near one of these stores.

    • It's a great deal if you buy it from the store as you will save $119 on the delivery fee.

      • +1

Indeed it is, I just bought two from Penrith - his and hers.

I joined the Adventure Club online to get the price and got a $10 welcome voucher as well. Surprisingly that worked too, so $288 for two complete packages and as we have a Falcon Wagon both fitted easily into the back as well.

They had loads left as of 30 mins ago.

  • +2

I'm getting 6, even though it's just my wife and I. Cause Coronavirus.

  • Any idea if these will fit in a medium SUV or need to go on top?

    • They're 2.66M long so you might struggle - my Falcon Wagon was easy but they're VERY long internally when you fold the passenger seat down.

On balance try but be prepared to put it on top. Incidentally I did note that Anaconda were selling an inflatable kayak rack for $50 - an option?

  • +2

I just bought this from Anaconda Chatswood. There were about 6-8 on show. It's light enough to lift onto my hatchback, and I used some ratchet straps to secure it (after embarrassingly having to watch a Youtube video on how to do that).

The lifevest is universally sized: fits 40kg+ (there's presumably a limit, but it's not 70kg as suggested in this thread).

I took it for a spin on Lane Cove, and though I'm not a kayak person, it seems fine. I have blistered thumbs though. :)

I'm not sure how I'm meant to secure this anywhere, but fortunately it fit in my shed.

  • I’ve just got mine from Lidcombe store. Plenty in stock.
