Must of thought PRC is the Puerto Rican Corporation

    • -1

China is the equal of any country in the world as far as manufacturing quality.

      • +7

You drive a Great Wall ?

        • +5

More to do with design and QC. Some Volvos are now made in PRC, VW has been doing it for some time - ones sold in AU, not ones sold overseas.

Tesla will start in making cars in PRC too…

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I can't agree with that more. China still needs to improve on QC and they can. It is a matter of what price the consumer is willing to pay. Consumers shouldn't just shift the blame to China for being a cheapskate.

      • +3

        I agree.

The problem comes when greedy western purchasing agents go there and say we'll buy a container full for half that cost. The natural consequence is that corners will be cut.

The Chinese are very good at manufacturing to a price point.

It's an example of time, quality, cost - pick two.

      • China is the equal of any country in the world as far as manufacturing quality.

Is that supposed to be a joke or tongue-in-cheek comment?

      • +5

Absolutely this, people underestimate the tooling, specialization and expertise Chinese factories have now, they're able to iterate and prototype at a much faster rate than is possible almost anywhere else in the world. The reason cheap chinese goods now suck is because companies want larger profit margins.

    • I'm not sure about this model but the washers made for the European market have many parts which have been made in Turkey. Apparantley BEKO are the suppliers.

    • Made in China

      Avoid at all costs

Parents have a Bosch German-made one they've had for 15 years.

My Made in USA Kleenmaid washing machine is still going well after 25yrs.

  • got one. Thank you

  • +2

Good washing machine. Bought this exact same model 11 years ago and still working great. Back then it was closer to $800 and was made in Germany.

  • Good price for the waw28460, it has been cheaper in the past as recent as dec19 i think?

Ended up buying a samsung ww85k54e0uw addwash 8.5kg from winning appliances, $744 with free delivery (TGG ebay selling for around $760 with code).

Didn't want to buy a washing machine sourced from china this time around, the sammy apparently is made in vietnam (yes.. though the parts are probably sourced from china anyway)

    • +1

the sammy apparently is made in vietnam (yes.. though the parts are probably sourced from china anyway)

Make sure you have extended warranty.

I used to own a Sammy washing machine (from 2012 to 2018) and lasted only six years. Every two years, the motherboard needed to be replaced.

After the third failure, I replaced the Samsung with a Bosch. Never been happier. Very quiet.

      • +1

Folks' Samsung had a blown motherboard 1 year in. Been okay since replaced with a refurb under warranty.

        • Can you replace it with a new Ryzen Build?

      • Bummer that's not what i wanted to hear!!

        • First time the mo-bo blew died (23 months after purchased) , Samsung quickly got it replaced (because it was also the same time they had very bad publicity of low-end Samsung washing machines catching fire due to faulty motherboard).

Second time (45 months after purchased) it was covered due to TGG extended warranty.

In all three cases, the same error message came up which points to the motherboard. The last time (exactly 72 months after purchased), I tried asking Samsung to fix this up (look at the history of the machine and motherboard failure) under "good faith" but they refused citing the model is already "old" and it was no longer feasible for them to have it repaired.

So we replaced it with a Bosch instead.

IMPORTANT: I am not saying "do not buy a Samsung washing machine" — rather I am saying "when buying a Samsung washing machine, make sure to get extended warranty". Hope this helps.

  • the first thing you want to do is find out how to turn the end cycle noise off, it's been driving me crazy for a good 5 months and I still don't know how to turn it off

    • +10

is find out how to turn the end cycle noise off

see page 28 of the manual.
      Activating the setting mode
      1. Turn the programme selector to
position 1. The washing machine is
      switched on.
      2. Press the A button and, at the
      same time, turn the programme
      selector clockwise to position 2.
      Release the button.
The setting mode is activated and the
      preset volume for the information
signals appears in the display panel
(e.g. at the end of the programme).
      Changing the volume
      ■ To change the volume of the
      information signals, use the
Finished in ñ button while the
      programme selector remains at
      position 2.
      ■ To change the volume of the button
      signals, rotate the programme
selector to position 3. Use the
Finished in ñ button again to
      change the volume.
      0=Off

thanks you so much, you just saved me from having to listen to it for another 5 years +. Copied and pasted it onto google as it I was confused about what the a-button was and found the user manual that for some reason I couldn't find in the house

        Page 19

        https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/public/manuals/Bosch-WAP…

For anyone that wants it in more layman's terms , turn the program selector once to the right, then press play/pause at the same time as turning the program selector once to the right again, number 3 should come up (factory volume setting), use the button underneath the number to change it to 0, then turn the program selector to off and it should save.

        Thanks again John :)

Was hoping they'd relist the Haier 7.5kg front loader on eBay to match their website price of $444

    • Went to the store today , store rep price down to $422, eBay price is $436 with code.

      • +1

Nah the HWF75AW2 is $444 on their website but not listed on their eBay store anymore. Would be $355 with code :( Previous cheapest was $338 when it was $398 with 15% off eBay code.

The one you're talking about is the HWF75DW1

  • +2

Got last year's version. Is fine. Front loader which has its own pros and cons.

First step is to read the manual and turn the noise off, trust me. It beeps several times every few minutes after the cycle ends

  • +3

Just wondering about delivery charge. Does it include both installation and disposal of old unit?

    • Plus one to this, hopefully they do do the removal 😬

  • +1

What's wrong with buying Chinese made products now?

  • Which one’s a better deal - the 8kg for $800 or 7.5kg for $600?

Other than having 0.5kg more capacity and slightly faster spin speed, is there anything else that would make it worth paying $200 more for the 8kg?

    • its not going to make that much of a difference

      its like a 300kW vs a 330kW car… or a 100w vs 110w amp.

I've been told 7.5kg is a good size for most families who will want to wash a queen sized bed spread… or an avg. family cleaning load.

    • +1

Better is subjective - I'd say the $600 one is better value. I might be wrong but thought the $800 one was made in Germany vs PRC for $600. Quality control will be the same in each IMHO.

  • +1

Bought this a few months back, am very happy with the quality and quietness.

  • I bought one of these last year for $575 delivered, German made.

I like it, its quiet and good water/electricity ratings. The capacity isn't as big, its enough for a household of 2-3 people.

Get the stand/pedestal for front loaders if you have a bad back!

    • Beware, they do need to be on the floor (and dead straight), if you want them to be properly quiet.

Also, the bigger a load it will handle, the heavier it will be to move, more noise it can potentially make, and more power it will use in practice. So for 2-3 this is good. We have an 8.5kg, it's fine but too big for 3.

I bought a Bosch dishwasher from The Good Guys. Had a fault when it was about 23 months old and through a comedy of errors (my fault) I never got to ask for warranty from The Good Guys until about the 25 month mark.

"But wait!" I can hear you saying, "Surely there's only 24 months of warranty?" Correct, it came with 24 months of warranty, however under Australian Consumer law Bosch needs to cover faults for a longer period of time (I guess 3 years at least).

So I pulled out my receipt and contacted The Good Guys and pretty much they told me to go call Bosch. Being a little bit surprised by this I mentioned that I'd prefer they do it as this is why I bought my stuff from a physical store and not from an Internet seller that was cheaper at the time. I'm pretty sure there was eye rolling going on at near the speed of light on the other end of the phone.

After a day they came back and said that Bosch couldn't cover it unless I called them myself. I pointed out (trying my best to not be an actual dick because I work in retail too) that really Bosch is their supplier and surely under Australian Consumer Law they could just work it out between them? I mean they sell a lot of Bosch stuff so they must have a hotline to call for these things?

Apparently not, as eventually Bosch called me (from England according to the caller ID) and the person told me that I was out of warranty so there was nothing they could do. I explained to them (again, I was trying to not be a prick) that in fact Australian Consumer Law guaranteed I was covered. The millisecond I mentioned ACL the story changed and she immediately booked a repairer in. I have zero doubt the default stance is no warranty unless you mention ACL which in my opinion is very shady behaviour.

A day later I got a text message saying a service agent was appointed and that they'd be in contact.

A week passes with no contact so I Google the repair agent and call them up. They pretty much said, "LOL no, we're 250km away, we're not coming. We told Bosch that a week ago."

So I call Bosch up and got a nice fellow that typed some things, put me on hold for a few moments and then confirmed another service agent was coming from only 70km away and they were fine with the distance."

    1. My thing got fixed, so hooray in the end.
    2. I Fully believe Bosch will tell people they're not covered when they are.
    3. From my experience The Good Guys don't give a shit about Australian Consumer Law not allowing them to force consumers to chase the manufacturer themselves.
    4. Yes, I could have just done it myself from the start, but as I work in retail I pride myself in never fobbing off my customers and making them call the manufacturer themselves. I DO IT ALL on their behalf, as if my magic, so they can have a great experience. I stupidly thought The Good Guys might care about their customers too.

Anyway, sorry for the rant I guess. Carry on. Peace.

    • +1

Thank you so much for your rant, it will greatly help me a lot with my Bosch washing machine WAE22466AU. Which I bought on 28 Feb 2017 from Appliances Online eBay, after seeing a deal posted here and had a lot of upvotes.

Early last month before it turned 3 years old it just stopped working, had no error code showing. Contacted Bosch and haven't heard from them yet.

    • +1

Well I liked your rant. A lot.

For those inflicted with an “education” from the national curriculum, their TL;DR version is “ I stupidly thought The Good Guys might care about their customers too.”

    • As a service agent for Bosch that story made me laugh :) But they werent lying when they said you need to talk to Bosch directly - thats true. I hear it from a lot of people; they're happy to speak to the store or the agents but for some reason when it comes to calling the people who actually MADE the thing they dont want to for some reason. You can quote the ACL all you want but at the end of the day its the manufacturer who has to authorise the repair, not the store or the agent/repairer. Just keep that in mind for the future — it's not that they dont give a shit.

But its good its been sorted. They send us jobs as well for over 100+km away and we email them back as well but I swear they dont action it (too hard basket?). I'm surprised the repairer even traveled 70km — they must have paid him well for his travel!

  • Is the motor direct drive like LG?

  • Would HN match an ebay price? Being lazy here…

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/bosch-7-5kg-front-load-washi…

nvmind its the same price, cheaper if no delivery… ty op!

  • Can someone recommend

This or NEW Fisher & Paykel WH7560J3 7.5kg Front Load Washer?

  • Is it a problem laying these down when moving them? I am tempted to pickup from a store but would need to lay it on its side to get it in my wagon.

    • +1

Mine was on either it's back or front to take it home. I think as long as the moving bolts are in place for transportation you'd be fine.

      • Thank you, will order.

  • Would u rather spend $600 on this new washer or $200 to fix your old washer?

  • Does installation come with delivery?

    • It doesn't. Mine didn't.

  • Any recommendations for a decent dryer?

    • +2

Simpson basic vented dryer (with the mechanical timer, electronic if you want but just more to go wrong) about $300-400… best dryer on the market. Dont bother with heat pumps or condenser dryers unless you're willing to wait 2-4hrs to dry a load (they're also expensive to repair). I own an appliance repair shop and thats what I'd buy.

      • Hey, did you have a short list of the best front load washers to look out for? I'm in the market but I just see a lot of buzz words and features I'll never use.

        Thanks

        • They all have their pros and cons and change so often but at the moment in a front loader I'd go either Electrolux (good build, had issues in the past but newest model we hardly see), Beko (had issues in the past, but again dont see much of them now and come with a 5-year warranty) or Samsung (excellent build, but had a bad rap for the ones catching on fire and are difficult to work for).

In the higher range I'd buy Asko — a bit clunky still on their control and expensive to repair outside of warranty but very strong machines and built well so dont see them very much apart from electronic failures (but no more than any other brand). Miele are good as well but avoid the auto-dos models — they also integrate wifi and all sorts of other unnecessary stuff which is new to the market. I can see that being an issue later though on though lol Both companies are excellent to deal with for out of warranty repairs, happy to usually cover stuff or cover parts not labour, etc. They're good to deal with.

I'd personally avoid all the new Haier/Fisher & Paykel (bad build quality), Teco (bad build, cant get parts), LG (hard to repair, bad designs) and Bosch (not as good as they used to be; hard to work on now, added more electronic modules which fail often and are expensive). Hope that helps :)

@theRev: Hey, thanks so much for the reply. Very detailed and helpful. I generally find most advice very average to poor but you have really helped me out, especially as I was considering a Fisher and Paykel.

            Thanks again :)

  • Bought from TGG. Appliances Online wouldn't match ☹
