Qantas Frequent Flyer 12 Month Status Extension

2220

Sorry more of a PSA.

Dear,

The impacts of Coronavirus are unprecedented and continue to evolve on a daily basis.

Among the many impacts, we know your travel plans have been affected. We appreciate the need for flexibility during this time and the importance of preserving the travel benefits that you’ve earned through your loyalty to us.

To give you one less thing to worry about right now, your Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold status will automatically be extended for 12 months. The extension will be actioned in two phases - if your membership year ends:
between March and June 2020, it will be automatically extended by 27 March 2020; and
between July 2020 and February 2021, it will be automatically extended by 9 April 2020.
Your Membership Year end date is located in My Account or the Qantas App. If you have more questions visit qantas.com/statusextension. There is no need to register or call the contact centre, we will take care of everything.

I've set a reminder for March 27th, the day any status credit extension will be applied to accounts expiring in May, it it's not I'll contact them then, support staff are working their butts off right now, took me ~4 hours to cancel my flight ~2 weeks ago, and things have changed since then to say the least

  • This is great news.
    Really appreciated Qantas.
    Thank you!

  • When does it extend? My account still shows my status expires Sunday 31 May 2020…

  • Thanks, "dear"

If I did Paid Tier Extension to get this years Platinum does this extension apply to me?

  • I just got downgraded from Platinum to Gold last month :(

  • Interestingly I got one of these notices even though I'm Lifetime Silver.

Virgin are taking a different approach and "gifting" people X number of SCs per month (depending on existing status).

Given how little flying is probably going to happen even after this is finished with I like the QANTAS approach better. :)

  • Is their Rewards shop still open? Im trying to buy a digital voucher and it says 'out of stock' wtf? Everyone cashing in?

  • Virgin's approach is interesting. Rather than suspending status, they're giving status points each month - the amount depending on your level.

    This just in from Virgin:

'In addition to the Status Credit gift recently announced, we’ll also be extending and preserving the current Status of all Velocity Frequent Flyer Silver, Gold and Platinum members for a further 12 months.'

  • What's the chances that QFF points will be devalued or cancelled? Wondering if I should just cash it out now or hope they honour the current points in the future. Heard QFF points is a liability that is about 14% of their revenue. Might be the first thing out the door if they're struggling to survive

  • Anyone know if there is a lounge pass extension?

  • I have 2 digital lounge passes that expire end of march will they be extended automatically or to I need to call up?

    • I doubt they will be extended automatically. Call up if you can stand the wait and expect to have to beg.

My 2 lounge vouchers have been extended automatically by Qantas. I am surprised but am not complaining.
