Warning these switches need a Neutral Wire to install. Check before purchasing

Unless switch is mechanical, all electronic types will need some power (for WIFI, even when operating in manual mode) ie return/neutral wire is required. Anyone who doesn't know this should get an electrician to deal with it.

      • Actually you can get smart switches which don't require a neutral. For example the Aeotec Dimmers. https://aeotec.com/z-wave-light-dimmer-switch/

Only down side it pulls a little bit of current through the light to keep going, and if you don't have a dimmable LED globe it strobes occasionally (this is from experience, have 2 installed). My house has neutral so I didn't need to use these, and prefer the Qubino Dimmers instead, which do require neutral, but work better in general.

    • Smart Downlight might be a better choice for houses which does not have a neutral wire in the wall.

      • Until someone turns off the wall switch..instantly making "smart downlight" a "stupid downlight"

I actually like this approach, so when visitors come around or other people who don't have the app have a nice way to manually override the 'smarts'.

  • Anyway to use for bathroom heater which took more then 300W.

  • Google Assistant not supported?

    • Google Assistant is Supported.

    • Supported if the bridge you use supports google e.g. a Philips Hue or Smart things hub. You might be able to directly use Alexa if you have one that has zigbee built in.

  • Any specials on 2 gang? And do they support dimming?

  • Does it work with LIFX ? Thanks.

  • Hi Rep

What is the difference between the ctec fan controllers and the Nue fan controllers

    • Same same but different.

Same thing, different brand, with the Nue Fan controller, you get an extra switch for the light on your AC fan .

Have these had compliance testing done in Australia?

    • Yes, all these Nue switches are compliant with SAA/RCM Standard.

  • Can we assume most of 20+ old building won't have neutral wire in light switches?
Was looking at these switches few weeks ago but never realised they might not work.
Do I have to call an electrician first so he can check if these switches can be installed?

  • Do you have any smart DC fan controllers on their own?

  • Anyone got recent experience with sparky?
How much they would charge for the installation?

    • +1

personal experience , just check with the sparky before you purchase , many does not install these despite showing SAA certification etc…

      • Right, they will be liable for installing an uncertified electrical product, no one wants to put their licence at risk.

    • Sydney Local sparky charges around $30-40 each switch + $100+ Call out fee if they think the job is too small.
