"Can keep you entertained for days months."

    FTFY

If you're in lock down and have no other commitments this will get you through it….

    • Ironically I bought a switch and witcher 3 so I would get out more

GOTY edition is $17.95 every month or so. If you can wait it might be worth waiting?

    • But the covid-19, I mean the Wild hunt after ciri now.

Can deal with o dimm later

But yeah, it's cool when the goty is that price

  • I'm a big fan of completeness and understanding injokes - what books or TV shows or games do I need to play before this one?

    • Play this first and then do the rest

*edit * watch YouTube videos I guess? I'm similar to yourself but I only knew a bit from playing some witcher 1 years ago and a brief look at the universe it exists in and I still found it enjoyable.
It would have more heft to have gone through the journey but you'll still enjoy this

I played Witcher 1, bought 2 and never really got into it, and was convinced to play 3 by a work mate. Honestly while it is nice having backstory etc, the core story arc in 3 is easy to follow and doesn't need all the background of the previous games. And as for your 'completeness' streak…be prepared to lose much time to this game then. Happy hunting.

I began playing with Witcher 3, aside from some obscure references here and there, the main story is straightforward and requires nothing of you. As such, you can go in clean and you will find that you don't miss all that much. This is because while characters such as Ciri, Dandelion, Yennefer and Triss are a core part of Geralt's story, they're not a huge part of the game's story (which really is just good, serviceable). A few Wiki searches here and there to center you, plus some YouTube vids to cover some backstory is all you need. I tried playing the first two and…no.

What you will soon come to realise is that the magic of the Witcher 3 is in the sidequests, lore building and Geralt himself. The expansions are absolutely worth their weight in gold and lose nothing for disregarding those aforementioned characters. Gaunter O' Dimm is truly great and the Duchy of Toussaint will make you laugh out loud at times. Just you wait until you have to fetch form A38.

      • Agreed. In my opinion, W2 has clunky combat, is almost entirely composed backtracking and has uninteresting sidequests. Skyrim, which came out almost at the same time, has much better gameplay (but a more generic setting, I suppose). The only way I could finish it is by editing some gamefiles to give me infinite weapon damage- all so I could do the /okay/ main quest. You could watch the netflix series, which introduces the world and characters well enough. Really all you need to do is read a summary on the characters and politics- motivations, past, alliances etc. Frankly you don't even need to do this- the game gives you most of it in the 1st hour when you are given the chance to speak to a diplomat/ambassador who updates you with everything you need to know with about 5 mins of exposition.

    • what books

It's based on a fantasy world created by a Polish author that I cannot recall ATM.

      • They are now called The witcher Series by Andrzej Sapkowski. 8 Books translated from the original Polish ones.

  • Where's the best deal on ps 4 console right now?

Got this on steam recently probably my favourite game in last 2 years. Will keep you entertained for months.

    for anyone who may care.

Disc and Digital save games are not compatible.
Regular and GOTY also not compatible, and have separate trophy lists

    Huhuhu (cries in Xbox)

I bought GOTY edition a while back and since being at home I've now clocked 30 or so hours (many more to come) and could not recommend this highly enough. The game is huge and exploring is a pleasure and never a chore - finding it hard to progress the main story as I get pulled into doing all the side content. 10/10

  • how does this run on the old PS4. constant 30fps or dips?

    • Outside of novagrad it's fine. I don't think that runs flawlessly on pro or x either
It's a hub town so while it's noticeable, it won't hinder your game play.
After you've been there a few times, you'll probably use the wolf potion and run around It anyway
I played a billion hours and that was only place it lagged. Maybe toussant

Still the best game ever made.

  • Interested in the GOTY edition, Ill hold out..

  • After all these positive reviews, I just found my lock down game!
    Thanks OP!
