Random Write 4KB: 50,000 IOPS
Maximum 4K Random Write: 85,000 IOPS

Edit: IT guru's on Ozbargain awake at 2am on a Sunday have brought to my attention that the brand OCZ is poor. A few sites mentions that the latest FW release from OCZ improves the performance and stability of the drive by quite a bit. Note this and update to the latest FW before using the drive.

I would prefer Crucial M4 128 GB more for another $10 in same website. I bought it and my startup time become 25 seconds and my pc performance improved a lot more. Crucial M4 128GB also has better benchmark too.

    Check this:

don't forget to upgrade your m4 firmware for a 20% performance gain too :-)

      • Yeah. The read performance raised to 500MB/s after upgrade the firmware to v0.9
M4 is generally claimed as 450MB/s in sequence reading, which is lower than other, but with firmware upgrade, it can goes to 500MB/s. M4 has better performance in other performance compared to the other brand, it is more stable than other brand and most importantly, Crucial always update firmware to improve the product performance and stability. For M4 case, it increases by 10%.

See here for the test of my M4 128GB.

    • The Agility 3 240GB consistently beats the M4 240GB: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4346/ocz-agility-3-240gb-revie…

The Kingston HyperX is another quick drive but a lot more expensive (~$269).

      • The primary figure you're interested in is the Random 4K reads.

  • My Vertex 2 boots up windows 7 in around 15 seconds

    • +2

My force 3 does it in 15 too! This alone proves the M4 is crap!! :p

    • My Agility 3 boots up in 19 seconds for Windows 7. I do have loads of crap installed tho and am still on SATA 2. Can't wait for Sandy Bridge E for an upgrade!

Good price, but please be aware of its reliability, user feedbacks from NewEgg doesn't seem to be any good (28% give one star):

Better stay away from SandForce controller and go for Crucial's M4, which has much better user feedbacks

seriously man, do yourself a favour, don't buy OCZ at the moment, simply due to their reliability.

if you don't mind protential bsod or lock up every second day, then go for it.

  • Godly daisy flowers, most reviews I read have put the Agility 3 as the higher performance model to the slower M4? Maybe I am reading the wrong reviews, will do a review check in the morning. Even on Newegg, the majority of the users have given it 5 stars out of 5, am I missing something here?

    • +4

Unfortunately only 39% users have given a 5 stars, this is not a majority.

      • +7

People whose SSD drives works perfectly won't usually come back and vote positive, but a non working drive owner will most likely let off some steam by barking more loudly. Don't take the voting system as Gospel, people barked loudly when I was buying an OCZ Vertex 2, it hasn't given me one issue in the last 12 months of ownership.

        • +2

But the fact is the M4 is a better performing SSD, has a lower failure rate, and can be bought for only $10 more. I don't see why anyone would buy this over the M4 unless they really need that $10.

        • since it was last 12 months, so it may well be the old 35nm, not the new 23nm model which is plagued with problems.

        • +2

yes I bought the OCZ vertex 3 MI, and have not had any problems either. Luck of the draw I say!

        • +1

I bought one and regretted it. Full of reliability problems. Not worth taking the risk buying it from overseas. You have to pay return shipping fees. pccasegear took it off the the shelves after too many returns!

        • I've got the Agility 3 for a few months now. No issues :)

  • -1

Fantastic price but I too would rather the M4 as there are so many problems with SandForce.

  • +1

i bought this drive a few months ago. Works brilliantly for me, and bought it for $250 back then. no complaints

  • How many are buying overseas? I know it's cheaper but components can still arrived broken then send back to US will be a pain

    • B&H packs pretty well. Usually a large box with those air packaging bags around it. If it's doa then I think either them or usps should (would?) foot the bill.

    • I don't consider this deal a great bargain, it's only good value because of the dollar. How are we supposed to know if there aren't cheaper places in the US which sell this?

If you buy it through a US friend/relative and claim the mail-in rebate, then the newegg.com listing is a a lot cheaper at $159.99.

Forum trolls are not "guru's" they are inflexable opinionated nerds who base there ideas on what they read on the Internet. They often confuse opinion with facts and gravitate on the negative and their lifes mission is to "educate" the masses to their inflexible views.

    • +3

I don't see how objective tests posted in my link can be considered an 'opinion' but I guess you're the authority and everything you say is true.

  • I have OCZ and i've had no problems until one of my older drives that was linked to it died. But a clean install will fix the issue. I rather like my Vertex 2. My mate also uses OCZ (i got it on his suggestion), and he too has had no issues.

  • I've got one and it works very well. Windows boots in 15secs…

  • "$165 + $33 express postage = $189.00" Am I missing something in your maths?

  • Bought 2 60GB Vertex on Saturday, good performance and value.

According to this, one user has had enough…
    www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685736

I'd buy OCZ if it was local/easy/free rma process. But offshore, forget it. You have been warned. Just look at OCZ support forums vs crucial, if that's not worth $10 I don't know what is.

    • +1

Yep. I can't think of any reason someone would get this over the M4 but for the 10 dollars savings.

      • +2

Not to mention you get an extra 8GB of SSD which is a bargain for $10.

  • $189 is decent price but I still run on X48 chipset…..no SATA 3 love for me.

  • Woohoo… almost cheap enough… they've gotta price crash by Christmas ;)

  • -1

Great price, OCZ is a great brand very reliable just had some bad luck with their SATAIII Controllers but from personal experience the latest firmware resolve this

  • +1

Hey guys, I have a question.
I realise that the real world performance difference between the OCZ and Crucial drives will be imperceptible. However, I use my computer to run benchmarks all day, so which one of these will give me a bigger numbers each time I run the benchmarks all day?
Also, could you please attach photos of your hard drive manufacturer tattoos as I would like to see which company's logo looks best on clammy, unsuntouched skin?

I don't get it. We give advice as to which is the better SSD and people like you mock us. Next time I'll be sure to keep my mouth zipped.

      • +1

Its probably because your screaming "bad" from whats written by other people that scream "bad" (which is more common then those that scream "good" but angry people voice themselves, content and happy just go about their business) while those of us that use them are saying we have no issue.

Angry person will voice his opinion and bitch to 10 friends that a product is bad.
Happy person will continue about their usual routine and might only tell 1 of their friends.

This why reading forums is a difficult method to gauge just how effective and good a product is.

Either way, whats done is done.

        • +1

But, as you say, people who are unhappy with the product are voicing their opinions. There are many more reports of OCZ SSDs failing than there are of Crucials.

    • All I am saying is that both of these drives will perform brilliantly as long as they don't fail.

I went with the m4 over the OCZ for the same reasons as you suggest @kheob, namely reliability. You would have to admit, there was a bit of hair-pulling and name-calling earlier in this thread. Giving your experience or linking to reviews is helpful and appreciated, calling someone a twat for their opinion is perhaps less so.

For the record, this is a good deal and you can be sure it will be packaged well from BH Photo as mine was. My m4 is working perfectly but that is a sample size of one (which, I would guess, is the sample size that most review sites use).

      • Yes, but I don't think ridiculing me for giving unbiased information is perfectly acceptable either.

Anyway, it looks like a mod has deleted it, so let's not start it up again.

        • +1

I am not sure when I mentioned your name in my comment.

Anyway, I second your assessment that it is worth the extra $10 for the m4 due to what seems to be better reliability. OCZ have definitely had their new drives take a beating due to many reports of failures. They are also one of the biggest selling SSD companies so even a small failure rate is likely to sound bad so who really knows?

I also recommend getting it from BH Photo as they have good prices and very fast shipping, so long as you can accept having to send it back to the US if it fails.

        • +1

Sorry I didn't mean you ridiculing me I was referring to the OP.

  • +3

My OCZ died on me one morning and had to be replaced. If you buy it from a shop locally like I did, I got it replaced, however if you buy from internet, you may have to send it back to them (at your cost) or to the OCZ Taiwan office (closest to OZ). Please be aware of the Warranty replacement process when buying of internet..

  • +1

It is unfortunate that the world of computer reviews doesn't have a 'metacritic' style review aggregator. While we are at it, an easy and reliable way of tracking real failure rates would be nice too.

  • any one know if this one is fine to use. I know they had issues. but have they been fixed?

Not really, check the Corsair forums. Honestly, listen to everyone here and just go for the M4.
      Reliability>>>>>>Performance.

      • any cheap M4 from Aus? or is B&H still the best place to get it?

        • Looks like around $240 is the best price in Australia at the moment. Going down all the time though.

  • -3

waste of money, simply use a regular hard drive and put your operating partition on the outer rim of the drive.

    • +4

Hows the old 386 holding out lol?

    • when you do a fresh install it IS installed on the edge of the disk? Hdds write from ouside in not like CDs where it's inside out. Even with that. It's still slow. Nub.

  • is anyone know why my Crucial M4 has been in Melbourne for more than 3 days, track record shows that it has been in Melbourne in 10/9 but nothing has been moved since then.
    what's wrong with it ?

  • That's one thing I worry about to purchase overseas.

  • In my opinion, simply put…
If you want a reliable SSD, buy Intel.
If you want a faster SSD, buy Sandforce.

For more information, refer to everything above.

  • I have been used Crucial M4 for a while and there is no problems so far. it's very fast: read: 485M/s.

if someone wants to buy one, there is a guy selling M4 just for 125$ on Ebay:
